The RAP-10 sounds fantastic here, the best of the bunch.

Actually, Robert Prince did all of his music in the SC-55 (which sounds similar to the RAP-10), Lee Jackson did Grabbag in SC-88, some other tracks in SC-55, and a bunch of other things. But is sounds like something weird happened to the SC-55 version here. But out of these recordings, the RAP-10 seems to be the best one.

No. Roland RAP-10 sounds similar to SC-55. Because it was created later than SC-55.

Tropez is also good. Turtle Beach meant it with MIDI.

I'm remember duke 3d running on the awe64 so I guess that's why I think it's the best sounding, close to the sc-55

I've analized the Ride cymbal of the 32 and 64(the short cymbal, the one that constantly plays), and It sounds almost exactly like the Sc55 one, it might be it.

RAP-10 is closest to the CD version of Grab Bag from Atomic Edition, maybe the exact card Jackson used to compose it. More channels and instruments on the CD version but the instruments used sound the same.

Gravis sound so mush better than SoundBlaster in this game. It did in Doom too.

Price tag. Getting good Midi is a rabbit hole that can cost an arm and leg. A Roland solution is ideal but unattainable for many. Getting a decent Socket 7 / Super 7 will already break the bank for most people. Plus consider compatibility . Sound Blaster Live might suck but it ticks all the boxes regardless of what software you chuck at it.

well Rap-10 is great and the best here. But the awe64 is not bad either though

Sounds like the SC-55 glitched and the SoundWave is using the 512K ROM. I guess the SC8600 was using the 10MB bank. I loved that back when I had a similar card. I had to get rid of it because it was a pain to keep working in games and Windows.

Every sample were recoded using default as-it-is. If the SC8600 driver loads an 10MB sound bank by default, then it was recorded using a 10MB bank. But I'm having doubts about this bank. Actually I didn't loved that SC8600 card, usually performed quite bad compared to other "standard" cards, like Gravis, AWE32, not to mention Rolands.

I think I prefer the SC8600 the most it really sounded nice. The SoundWave32 is garbage it sounded like a dot matrix printer having a panic attack.

For everyone saying the roland RAP-10 is the best, the roland rap-10 just sounds like an sc-55 with added reverb.

This song actually has a noticeable difference between instrumentation on the sc-55 and rap-10, with the rap-10 notable having a more powerful snare drum.
