My wife bought a bracelet from a garage sale for $25, she gave it to our daughter for a birthday present, our daughter had it appraised and it turns out that the bracelet was worth $12,000. It was a bracelet made in Germany in WWII that the German soldiers made for their mothers as something to remember them by due to the chance that they might not return from war and that there were only about a dozen or so of these bracelets in excistance so you never know what you will find at a flea market or garage sale

At a yard sale, An acquaintance bought a piece of junk jewlery ,a dirty bracelet with zircons, for her granddaughter. She took it to her jeweler for cleaning. He advised her that the metal was platinum and the stones were all diamonds! She paid a quarter and it was worth at minimum 50k!

My business partner dated a girl who came from a poor background, had a massive emerald ring that she inherited from her grandmother, and she wore it for years thinking it was glass. He on the other hand had learned to identify gemstones and after taking a good look at it he told her "honey, that is a real emerald and worth upwards of $10,000."

I do think it's sweet that she bought it to make herself happy and as a reminder to be positive that she would be ok and the ring was just waiting for her to discover that it was really there to make things better and ok!

I had a similar situation. My grandpa bought a bunch of jewelry in an estate sale. My grandma sent some of it up to me and it turns out one of the rings was a yellow gold/platinum setting with a half carrot diamond. Cut in the late 1800s/early 1900s. Used it as the main stone in my first engagement ring. 💍

Someone in my hometown also had the same incident , she bought a ring for 3$ and went to a jewelry shop and offered her 100,000$ she thought he was joking until she went to another shop who also gave her the same value estimation of that diamond ring and realized later it was the real deal :) i heard she tried to find the real owner of that ring but i dont know what happened.

I bought a ring at a garage sale for $2.00 took it to a jewelry store and it turned out to be real and worth several hundred dollars!

I am very happy for her, she enjoyed her ring all the time she wore it, and now cashed out a big winner.

My wife had a beautiful one K diamond ring. We were fishing from a boat in a large deep lake in CA when she took it off, because It was catching on her fishing reel. She accidentally dropped it into the water! Five years later, I was cutting up a fish that I had caught in that same lake, when suddenly, my knife struck something hard. It was the bone in my thumb.

If I had written that on paper and turned it in as school work, my teacher would have crossed out everything after the first sentence and before the last sentence. The end.

Just now I was standing in the checkout line at wholefoods and this lady was also eyeing my earrings 😂 and she told me those my style of diamond jacket earrings are definitely vintage and quite rare and no one makes those anymore!! Made me want to look into it more so I did a search and found this video and laughed when I heard the similar story. Maybe I should get them appraised... regardless, I ain't auctioning these bad boys off 😎💍💎

I once went to a flea market. I got a flat tire and it started to rain, after struggling with the jack came to find out the lug nuts were so tight I slipped in the mud and spotted a gold gleam through the sand. Fortunate for me and you could imagine my surprise the gold gleam was actually my car keys had fallen from my jacket. Apparently a hole had been worn in my jacket pocket. This jacket was 100% genuine cow leather and had been given to me by my grandfather whom I had always loved dearly. He was a kind old man who had a hearty laugh. One day he laughed so hard it put him in the hospital, strangely the hospital was very near where I got the flat tire. I thought to myself what a strange set of coincidences. Of course my grandfather is home now, he loves to sit by the fire, especially on a rainy day. Crimey, I wish it would stop raining. Oh yeah where was I? Mud was everywhere...

They kept it a few days and they called her to come get it.. when she got to the store she was told that the red dtoned were actually rubies and the cleaner white stones were diamonds. I bought a round 10$ diamond ring from the flea market. It is a pretty light lavender color with white square diamonds around it. During certain lightings, it seems to turn dark blue or light pink. A lot of people have asked me if it's a real diamond and some people can't stop gazing at it lol. I don't think it's real but it's very pretty to me. I wear it all the time lol

Paul Harvey run a story years ago about a couple in New York who had gotten married, They were poor at the time and could not afford a diamond ring for her so they went to a pawn shop to find something mark their wedding day. The only piece they could find was a necklace. Years later they wanted to get the piece cleaned thinking it was just for remembrance sake, taking it to a jeweler , they let him see it and after looking at it asked them very excitedly if they wanted to sell it.Puzzled at his offer they asked him what was the big deal.Come to find out the necklace had a history, it was a gift from Napoleon to Maria Anntoinette.

It looks like an older European cut diamond. A lot of larger stones are old mine cut stones. They don't have a big open top surface like a princess cut stones.

I bought an opal and crystal pendant at a thrift shop for $1.99 I did, however, have an idea as it was in 18K, which was marked with the old European numerals 750. Yup, the opals and diamonds are real and it’s not worth $800K, but worth a couple thousand. It’s from the 1930s France. How it got to a thrift shop in Connecticut, I’ll never know, but I like to imagine. I say this to suggest thrifters learn the old hallmarks and assay marks. You never know, right?

When looking at an old European cut diamond straight on, there appears to be a hole where the diamond comes to a point on the the other side. I can't believe someone didn't catch its value way back when.
