South Africa has yet again received an international cash injection; in the form of a reported $497-million loan from the World Bank. This is allegedly for the purpose of financing a clean energy project. The project is reported to have an aim of decommissioning and repurposing the Komati coal-fired power plant using renewables and batteries. This is in line with the government's efforts to transition the country toward a low-carbon development path with reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy.
