By being angry and throwing or hitting things as a way to be calm is only a temporary fix for a much deeper problem later on. Please, resolve your problems in a way thats going to actually help your mental health.

The worst part is that "releasing anger" with violent or destructive actions has been shown in every study that has researched it to be counterproductive and actually increase stress and anger hormones. It might feel good to destroy stuff, but it wont actually fix the emotions.

It's absolutely okay as a last resort when you realize you've been bottling for a very long time, as long as you don't sustain yourself in this state for too long, and then immediately move to something more restorative. But yes, this should not be anyone's primary coping skill. The point is to use coping skills before getting to the point of needing to release explosive emotions. However, this is relative- for those who use maladaptive coping skills such as drugs or self injury, this is an acceptable transition into less-destructive coping skills. I'm a mental health worker based in DBT.
@donjuan974615 күн бұрын
@@hanthonyc It's not okay. Doing this won't fix the issue it will quite literally help to lay foundations to develop maladaptive behavior. Proper therapeutic techniques rely on you avoiding this kind of thing because it literally will only cause you problems.

Back in the 80s there were a bunch of therapists peddling this thing called rebirthing as a cure for all sorts of psychological problems. They would charge hundreds of dollars per hour to wrap their clients in a blanket, sit on them and tell them to fight their way out of the blanket because that somehow mimics the birthing process. It was all the rage until a young girl died of suffocation because she had multiple grown ass adults smothering her in a blanket and screaming at her to fight her way out. @@decas5505 botteling up is worse though, if you don't 'release your stress' you just become miserable and annoying and eventually burst out with that anger on someone else over basically nothing. Most people I know usually scream their anger out, I just can't do it so I have more anger issues then them. Also, no bots?
@sarahr989415 күн бұрын
@@decas5505no the idea is to channel your emotions into appropriate activities like, for example, exercising, journaling, going out into the woods and screaming, etc. That way you learn to work through tough emotions rather than bottling them up inside until they burst. I don't think there's a correlation between DBT therapy and physical violence. In fact I believe the opposite is true; when you have a healthy outlet for emotions like anger or frustration, you're less likely to have outbursts.

Personally the act of physically exerting myself is a great way to release anger, I used to do martial arts and once I quit I lost that outlet for my anger, and it leached into my interpersonal interactions, but I guess according to most comments here, studies say doing this kind of thing is bad for you, I think the difference is wether you are living in the anger while you’re releasing it vs focusing on the exertion itself, letting your emotions flow subconsciously while you work, so I’ve started doing other stuff like going to the gym or yard work and it’s kinda having the same effect, still not as good as when I was doing martial arts, but it’s getting better

Well, all fairness to the event, it does offer some value because 1) Influencer led event where she will provide some level of interactive therapy. 2) You get the community element of being with the other participants. You can swing a stick in the woods for free, but you will have a hard time gathering others to do it with, as well as having someone to hype you up and direct you through it. If it's a longer "retreat" as it's sold, it could help you form bonds and socialize with the participants through events. Those two elements differentiate it from something you can easily do for free, and could make it worthwhile to some people. I mean, wouldn't catch me dead paying for it, and depending on the specifics you can certainly say it's preying on people's vulnerabilities for undue profit. I just wanna moderate the take a bit.
