When finding pet food at the pet stores or any food for that matter, make sure it is not on any recall lists, before sharing it or partaking of it! Alot of times the companies will toss out things that are just "going" to expire, and that stuff f is ok, but then they also dump tons of recalled stuff too! Just a heads up!

Ok I've watched this twice to make sure that I was right...at Old Navy you missed an entire bag of clothes. I can see the write off tags in the bag along with the clothes in the back of the dumpster. Most stores use clear bags so really pay close attention. That's why I like doing this during the daytime. Secondly the most important tip that I can give anyone is to put yourself in a position to receive positive by being positive. Loose all that negative talk and say I'm looking for boxes and try not to even think about getting caught doing something especially if it's legal. I've been doing this for years now and have NEVER been questioned by any police or security. Great tips about gloves and protecting your feet. Also stay clear from stores that share dumpster with places which sell prepared food items. Those are the gross dumpsters. Lastly that large green dumpster is actually a compactor and it is dangerous and illegal to try to access it. Great vid Tracy!

Always clean up and put back anything you take out and do not keep. That is what the police care about. I actually had a police officer help me get something out of a dumpster.

Pet stores and craft stores are really good to go to. We have a couple of stores that we hit that are guaranteed to have awesome things almost every time. Going the day or two after Christmas is the best because all the returns just get trashed. We found one of those Spin Mops last year, unopened, still had some gift wrap stuck to it. Terrible gift but heck I'll take it for free.

I use so much bubble wrap for ebay shipments and accidentally discovered a great source in the dumpster. Stores that change out displays unpack the new stands, bag up the bubble wrap back in the large bag it came in and toss all that clean wrap into the dumpster. My best source is the dumpster behind a cosmetic store.

Thanks for adding good content! Bubble wrap is expensive to buy, so finding BAGS of it was wonderful. I will check out the cosmetic stores now 👍

those enclosed dumpsters we had at best buy to prevent employee theft... people used to take things from inventory back room out the loading doors. and someone would pick it up... or they would put new inventory in the trash bags and set them out for a friend to pick up

I get all of my packaging from local dumpsters including the "suffocation bags" Amazon FBA want's us to use. Most dumpsters from retail stores are clean with no food or "real" garbage in them. We have an early Sunday morning run to a local office supply store and have made hundreds off of throw away's since I started doing it last month. Diamond in the rough. Yes this is a thing, but not everyone will do it. Good for us!

I'd call the municipality or the private company that picks up garbage in that area. I would advise you to go at night (armed with a flashlight, elbow-length rubber gloves, and large trash bag) and preferably with another person. Last but not least, check the laws in your city/borough to make sure there's no ordinance against dumpster diving.

When I was 10, there was a small shopping plaza 3 mins from my house with a craft store called Piece Goods Shop. Me and my best friend would find nice stuff in that dumpster I would climb in and hand stuff to her. They would use the craft stuff they sold to make projects to display as floor models then dump them out when they were done displaying them. I even brought home my mom some nice stuff. She couldn't believe it. makes me wish I was still that gutsy and carefree to do that now. When you're a kid you're like who cares if i get caught. lol.

hi! I'm actually close to your area. just watch your back, there are other divers around, myself included. haven't had a bad experience with others yet, but they are ever vigilant. as for the best days to go, you kind of have to figure it out for yourself. I highly suggest trying out the Sarasota area and filming it. diving there has been on my to-do list. please try not to dumpster dive alone. it's good to peek, but in case you find something heavy, or should something else happen (especially in ft. myers....) you'll want a buddy with you. good luck!!

I go to my local dumpsters for boxes as well as products it's just amazing what u can find, always make sure u know your state laws, it varys. it's all about the hunt. If nothing else u can bring the items to donate & get your coupons for savers etc, write offs for taxes or just donate for a great cause. Doing this can be a dirty job but very profitable.

I really can't answer if it is or not, depends on the state you live in. But you have to look at it from a wider point of view. You really don't want anyone to find out either way it'll cause a scene and i'm sure you would like to avoid it if possible. Also...one idiot could cause a gold mine dumpster diving area into a lump of coal with his stupid actions for others too.. not to mention you shouldn't be alone when scrapping as a woman in my opinion because of your sex. Sorry, if I offend you on the last part but being harsh in my experience will get something across to someone rather than being the good guy.

+Lord Blazer no offense taken, good common sense really. I did research dumpster diving and in federal court back in 1988 it was written that once something has been put out for garbage collection, that it is no longer considered personal property. With that being said, I would still check with your state. I was able to research "dumpster diving laws" with my state added. Thank you for your honest opinion, it makes a lot of good sense.
