They cant take the chance that something was worn or someone was sick or worst put something in or on the item that can hurt some one..also people replace the items in the jars with god knows what.. definitely not safe to resale or regift

I Would say a lot of it is health concerns. At least for Sephora we wouldn’t even have a choice to resell it. Especially now with the vid. In Sephora if we got a return since the pandemic, we wouldn’t put things back on the shelves because we weren’t allowed too. And yes agree that some stuff has to be damaged out because people try to return stuff. Lol (filling them up with their own makeup too!!) Not my rules. Also please don’t even try coming at me I’m just speaking from personal experience.

@@Daisitaag Ezpensive, designer hand bags are not a health concern. I’ve seen Amazon Fresh throw out unopened cases of in-date food. None of it makes sense to me. When I worked at target we threw away what was opened, or perishable, but never anything that was unopened. It was donated, as it should be.

@@raespice its all to do with insurance claims, they all get paid out from insurance for unsold items but they need to be destroyed to get the payouts. its how the system works.

I worked at a bridal salon and they used to tell us to dump shoe dye all over the damaged, stained and returned dressed. I thought that was so awful and arranged to have them picked up by a customer who did missionary work in Mexico to give to brides to be.

If I worked at these stores, I'd put that sh*t RIGHT in my trunk, take it home, take the tags off so someone can't try to "return it".... wash it and take it to a women's shelter, because yea..... I'll never understand why these companies don't donate. I worked at a small retail store,one of my managers made a point to ask corporate to donate leftovers to a woman's shelter and they said no. So, a different manager would sneak some of the nicer stuff into a box at the end of the month to take to the woman's shelter. It literally just gets thrown in the dumpster,so wtf not donate it?! And most donate places give a tax write off now. I just can't understand it.

Many of the premium brands don't want "the poor" wearing their branded clothing. They would rather destroy goods than have someone outside of their brand demographic wearing it.

Constantly amazed at what these premium priced stores throw away. Good for you for getting them. After seeing what stores toss I drew this conclusion: When we shop there we are paying for what they toss. Sure they probably get to write off on taxes, at least part of the cost to them. When they toss merchandise, IMHO, they tell me their products are not worth much. Again, you go girl.

the products are worth more than pennies. they just can't resell used or damaged returns so they're thrown out. they kno their products ARE worth a lot and ppl are willing to dumpster dive including their own employees. that's why they're told to slash merchandise that will be thrown out. i kno the employees are told to do this but i honestly wonder if the managers actually destroy everything or if they keep some returns for themselves. like if i saw a perfectly good item i wanted and it was going to be thrown out i def wouldn't toss it

they have to destroy them for their insurance claims, it's a very common practice in retail. My freind had a job where he had to cut up unsold clothing, that is what happens after they went on the lowest discount at the store like 75% off before throwing them in the dumpster. Another friend worked at a furniture chain and they would have to break things before throwing them in the trash.

@@Starsofneon I have definitely experienced that as well. My thought is, I can just as effectively give you hygiene products in a grocery bag as I can in a purse. While, I’m sure the purse will be used, it’s not a need.

Ironically coach has a program where you can send you bag to get fixed because the say they want to avoid their bags ending up in landfill and adding to the waste problem (even tho store throw out bags) I saw a girl on Tik tok that dumpster dives then sends the bags to get fixed

I love how you quickly cut to the chase and show everything you found. Some dumpster divers show their rear end hunched over a dumpster for 3+ minutes straight so I stopped watching them. You earned yourself a new subscriber :)

I used to work at bath and body works. We had to shatter candles and other glass items (secure them in the bags first then shatter), slash bags, dump lotions and shower gels in the trash bags, take apart wallflower plugs, dump soap liquid down sinks, then we had a special chemical disposal bin for sprays, room sprays, sanitizers ect that would be professionally hauled away. Basically had to make NOTHING salvageable. Items that were no longer sellable but not "damaged" were stored in back room and occasionally there would be a day where employees could fill a medium bag and get everything for $5 total

When I was homeless during Christmas last year living in my car with my mom, we used to park under the trees by our local Bath and body works and to pass time I always popped in window shopping and looking at all the beautiful candles wishing one day I could afford them. Only if I had dove into the dumpster first, maybe I would have been just as lucky. This is a amazing haul!! To think all those hand sanitizers could be given out to the homeless but instead they just trash it. Now I know why people dumpster dive.

It's overconsumption and wasteful, but I get why they do this. They would never donate them bc then it'll circle around and devalue the brand. It's all about profit and what benefits them. Just like my friend that used to work in a bakery, she said employers aren't allowed to take the left over pastries home, they just throw it all away.

I used to work at a few of the stores she named and I always made sure to not damage the clothing items/products in hopes that a dumpster diver would be able to use these perfectly usable items/products. If the employees didn't listen there would be no way of anyone knowing that ; no one actually checks up on this destroying process!

My Mother and I are huge Coach and Victoria Secrets buyers, for gifts as well. We decided not to buy them at all anymore. I’m very surprised Coach and Victoria Secrets would not donate. They can mark a corner so no one can return. There’s always a way to mark clothes with an X or glue mark on inside to alert the store it was a trashed item. We have enough carbon dioxide from inundated landfills. We don’t want to add to climate change by rotting items in landfills. Not only food rots, clothes, leather and other items break down too.

I don’t shop there anymore, either. Their prices are even higher now & I’ve had enough Coach to realize it’s not that great, really. The money is better spent somewhere else or in my savings. As for VS…crap on a hanger. Everytime u turn around, their underwear went up in price again. Quality isn’t any better, either. You can get the same at TJ Maxx or Marshalls now for way less money. Just because I have it to spend doesn’t mean I want to give it to them for their crappy products. VS used to last, not anymore. Threads coming loose, materials see thru ( when it’s not supposed to be) no thanks. They can keep their garbage.

As a former VS employee you definitely don't want to dumpster dive VS trash. Clothing is only thrown out if they're unsaleable, i.e. returned with bodily fluids, etc. Everything that is usable stays on the selling floor, stockroom, or sent to factory warehouses. Stay safe y'all.

The broken candle that was inside a bag looked like the wax part of the candle itself was fine so could be put on another jar. Nice findings btw, I love candles, would love to find those somewhere 😂

Why don’t they give these to the workers? Rather than throw them away, even the testers. Most retail workers make minimum wage and are low in staff. This would be a huge insensitive for them to work and it would help the job market.

After working at Victoria’s Secret, trust me you don’t want those damaged items. A lot of times they’re damaged out for good reason! Lots of things come back with awful odors or bodily fluids that you don’t want to even touch! Once something was damaged because the customer had a visible skin condition or rash and the item wasn’t able to be sold even though it was perfect condition.

A couple days ago an employee at BBW closed the lids on me in the dumpster. I jumped in to get candles I couldn’t get out with my tools from outside the dumpster. I’m traumatized now…and I’ve never found this many items there at once. That’s awesome.

I feel even with the bags of you have a sewing machine maybe you can use the materials to make a coach keychain or key fob for your other bags. That’s sounds good to me. Maybe even a small coin purse. I would !!!

Good for you! A couple years ago Lowe’s had a giant dumpster out front and I was able to grab some fruit trees that they had tossed out at the end of the season. They did end up baring fruit. Also, pretty infuriating that companies such as VS and Coach are so wasteful. They are the problem! Why are they not donating items- wether it be to thrift stores or women’s shelters! Wtf?! How often do you go? Where are you located?

If you get some leather string/rope yo can stitch up the purses and bags. Even get some braw clips or/and sew the bras. Most can then be reusable to you or others. You can donate or sell them at a discounted price. I've been wanting some high end Victoria's Secret bras. Like the glitter strap one. but with being in college... I can't afford it. So if it was damaged and fixed then discounted I would totally buy one in my size. ♡

Hi 👋 I think 🤔 I watched it but I’m watching again !! That is so exciting!!! I think 🤔 I did talk to you about the VS thing ! Well you got 2 perfumes that’s nice !!! The only thing I can think 🤔 to do is sew 🧵 up the bras and recover them with different material if that can be sewn back. I think 🤔 Brooklyn moms go dumpster diving did fix some of the Bras and they did a video on how they fixed them. Awesome 👏 scores !!! Yay 😀 Great 👍 finds at b&bw !!! That is absolutely amazing!!!! For those hand sanitizers and sprays. They made us throw away the perfumes when they got to half way. They could of changed them out at bath and body works or let them there for them. For the life of me I don’t understand why these companies just won’t donate these items to their local shelter, Goodwill, or something. There are people who need these items. Throwing away hand sanitizer and other hygiene products is just unacceptable.

You can make key chains out of the coach leather or handles for dressers

You can take left over candles and break up and make wax melts. Great finds on the perfume.

I work at Sephora, and we have bins in the back where we put all of our returns in. We can’t throw them in the regular trash; a truck comes once our bins are full and takes it somewhere to dispose, I honestly thought all companies had similar systems!

You hauled enough to gift or give to your family and friends! Good for you for saving the stuff from the dumpsters that are tossed out by retail companies. They are so wasteful about their inventory! They should donate the products to people that could use them and not dump in the trash.

A good thing to do is to write a letter to the company stating that they should donate any item that cannot be sold or it’s out of season to show it to other organizations. Or start a club on Facebook an advocate for companies to donate unwanted goods.

Yeah bath & body works has a new policy in regards to candle returns. They can only be burned like 10% to 20% so that means they would only accept it if there was 80% of the candle even though it would be damaged and thrown out. It used to be that you could burn a candle almost all the way down and if you didn't like it return it exchange it. So nowadays at least at the stores out in Southern California that's their policy. South a candle is halfway Burns you won't get your money back you can just do an exchange maybe it's supposed to be 100% satisfaction guarantee but you scored. I have never dumpster dive before. Everything's so expensive these days I don't think I would be opposed to it! As for the coach I used to know somebody who worked for Gucci and they used to have a team come in to take everything out and have it destroyed it wouldn't even go into a dumpster. That's unfortunate about the Coach bags because what they could do is donate those to the charity instead of destroying them. Because there are some people that can do stuff like this and then turn around and resell them. But then again you've got people who are making knock off replica items and making a fortune that way as well.
