Dumpster Diving for Furniture & Decor! Should we keep the kitchen table?!

I am so excited to share this video!! My husband, Alex, came along and filmed my diving adventure so that I could use two hands and really just focus on the dive - it was so much fun!! We are really excited about changing up our kitchen table and i'll be sure to show you the before and after pics of it once it's all finished! :D
I love dumpster diving because it helps us to make money, rescue usable items from the landfill, and provides a way for us to give back on a regular basis. It's also a great way to save money by getting your furniture and home decor from the trash! YAY!

I got a table in poor condition like that ..sanded it...painted it..gave to an elderly lady who needed a kitchen table..reduce, reuse, recycle..she loved it!!! Love all your videos

Keep the dolley on the truck to help you with heavy items you may run across.

Keep the dolly but don't leave it in the truck unless you have a locked garage to keep your truck in at night. People can easily grab it out of your truck if just left in the truck and parked in a driveway at your home.

Suzanne Lawson yes that is absolutely something to keep in mind!!! It is also a great 👍 idea to keep the dolly !!! I know I would and get the tires changed ! How many times do you think you will find one of those thingy???! Not very often and it is a great 👍 thing for moving and moving things around.

Keep the dolley! But inside the truck or garage because it will be pilfered if in the truck bed.

Tables can be expensive, so that was a good find! It seems there are always stray chairs, but rarely a table. Definitely keep it!!

That table is absolutely gorgeous!!! It looks a lot better in your all’s dining area. It would look even better when you all get it sanded and painted . I love ❤️ finding free furniture to redo !!! I redo pieces all of the time !!

In the quick look I had - the topo of the table could be oak or maple - either will be pretty when cleaned up, sanded and refinished.

You could make bowls out of the warped records!! You just place them over an actual bowl and put them back out in the sun and it'll melt around the shape of the bowl. They look really neat.

We used to put them over something - like a clay flower pot or metal can or container - in the oven on a low temp and let them melt. That was a long time ago.

That board was for transferring someone that required a wheelchair. It makes it easier for them to slide over.

It's called a slider..to slide from chair to bed or bed to chair. I love your beautiful smile, your enthusiasm and your sunny personality. I get upset sometimes because You leave so much behind. If you cant use it, donate to gift shop. They have donate boxes everywhere. Luv your show.

I’m dying you didn’t take the chairs! Add wood glue, tighten the screws, paint the seats, and call it a day…to go with your table…chalk paint is awesome for that spray top coat. Quick and easy.

You can use wooden toothpicks to fill in any gaps to get the holes set up for glueing.

Ziggy Baby oh, yeah it does. Go to jamirayvintage.com they sell awesome all natural chalk paints and food safe oils to use anywhere food may come in contact, but for a table top, they sell “big top” which is probably best for a table and chairs. Their paint seems expensive, but get the sample sizes first. They go A LONG WAY!

I have that exact table sitting in my breakfast nook, although I have kept mine in much better shape. My husband and I bought it over 20 years ago, in Denton, to go in our first house in Corinth, TX. It is well made solid wood. The middle does not come out, it folds down into the middle of the table and the two pieces slide together. We were just talking about selling it today.

Idk about Texas, but in Kentucky we can donate new and used luggage to the Foster program. Most fostered children have to move their belongings in garbage bags so a suitcase or tote bag gives them a little more sense of ownership. Just a thought :)

Yes, She should have taken the 2 nice curved back farm table kitchen chairs. The seats just needed refinished and the legs and backrest tightened with the screws and wood glue. Would have been GOOD AS NEW.

I think that was an assistant board or "transfer board" when assistance is needed for a person from wheelchair to bed and such.

Have you ever thought about getting a phone clip holder for when you are alone? That way you can clip it on the side of the dumpster and manipulate it in the way you want? Just a thought.

If they spray painted good cotton pillow cases or sheets, you can use them as kitchen rags or for painting walls if u can’t remove the paint. I use old sheets on the floor when I paint. Great throw blanket. It looks soft.

Don't you just wish it was legal to dive over here? I've rescued lots of stuff from outside peoples houses "shabby chic it" but would be so Awesome to be able to rescue stuff from the stores dumpsters, i watch a lot of Dumpster diving videos and im amazed by what the stores throw away!!! Cant believe how much perfectly good stuff ordinary people throw away also!!! As they say "one man's trash is another man's treasure" Stay Safe hun 😉 xXx

The original pottery is way kool. Use it fir kitchen utensils. U can also paint it , then polyurethane it. They look amazing in the colors u choose. I cannot even believe u left it. It was a gem!

You and your hubby are adorable! I started garbage picking about 20 years ago as a means of supporting my daughter and myself as a single, stay-at-home mom. Great cardio, muscle-building workouts that are way more fun than the gym and actually make you money instead of costing it. Plus it's great for the environment! Keep up the great work!

Great DD haul...Awesome finds...Yes, keep that nice kitchen table...Table top just needs refinished and touch up the base with white paint. Keep the table base WHITE...looks NICE in your kitchen. I was in a hardware store the other day and that was playing. Then material girl (cloth masks!). Then I realized they had a whole Covid playlist! Sad, but also fun. I definitely laughed and enjoyed.

Oh MY GOD I was thinking the same thing, she gets so excited and in the zone, she forgets there is a pandemic and they tell you not to touch your face, let alone her digging through trash and Alex is just as bad as to not tell his trash picking wife not to touch her face.

Get your glasses tightened up a bit...hard to remember not to touch them when they’re slipping on your nose! You’ll be okay..just don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth. Be sure to shower and wash your glasses and clothes when you get home...even before petting Pilgrim!!!

There is an app called trash nothing that you can post stuff on that you find in the dumpster and people can go to pick up the stuff you don't take.

Wow u found some great stuff..u remind me of when my husband and I use to go dumpster diving at the University of Florida back in the 70,s when the students would leave..back before the days of cell phones. We would sell the stuff and made quite a bit of side money..I love watching your videos .

Having Alex along made it so much easier for you! You could dive without thinking about the camera. I was hoping you would keep the table. With the split in the middle of the leaf, it looks like it is one that stores inside the table. Excited to see how it turns out!
