Howdy, y'all! My name is Mike and I absolutely love scavenging for free stuff, random treasures, lost valuables and other interesting artifacts. I prowl the city streets in search of dumpster loot, curbside treasures & scrap metal as well as scour the river bottoms for lost valuables during the summer months when I can scrounge up enough money for gas. Mike the cabinets you got have weighed bottoms to help keep them standing straight. And the lateral files have a feature that only one draw opens at a time. That way they don’t tip over. Also if you come across hanging file folders the metal arms add up quick if you want to take time to cut cardboard off.

Those drawers lock up when one is open, so they don't tip over on someone. You have to open one drawer at a time.

Pretty sure those filing cabinets would have a safety feature that would prevent more than one drawer from being opened at a time, to prevent them from tipping over when in use full of files. I bet if you opened one drawer at a time and then made sure it was fully shut before opening another it would have been unlocked.

20:44 as an old Electronics/HAM radio guy I cried when you tossed that shrink tubing for the second time that crap is expensive., but you can't see or know everything. That was an amazing dumpster and a lot of work Mike.

MIke, on the file cabinets, you have to completely shut each drawer before you can open another drawer. Its a safety feature to keep them from tipping over.

It’s ridiculous that perfectly good hardware “and such” were destined for a landfill. Keep up the good work Mike. No matter what anyone thinks metals rule as they are way easier to recycle and reuse as compared to the plastic. If everyone picked up a snibbit like you to divert metals from landfills to be melted we would all be better. So every time you make that jump into the dumpster and face the juice remember you are doing your part in saving the world.

Mike on those file cabinets when one drawer is pulled out the other drawers are locked in place. Also they make for good tool boxes .

When I was scrapping full time, I used to love bins like the one you had all the stuff from in this video. It would make my day if I found one like that. The best one I ever came across, I found £254 in coins, €30 in coins and a few dollars in coins. All at the bottom of the bin in a chocolate tin. Someone must have been cleaning out a house and either forgot about it, didn’t know or wasn’t bothered. That’s the best score I ever had.

This brings back memories, before losing my leg I made a reasonable living doing the same thing, Over time had got to know people that would buy almost anything to do with construction , new or used in good condition.Also used to take stuff to the "flea market" at Brick lane in London every Sunday, Good times.

Not even joking Mike, you should have just dollies that dumpster home and emptied it out. Even stuff you left was good stuff. And some stainless steel is magnetic. Depends on the alloy. 32:13 most file cabinets have interior locks that prevent opening more than one drawer at a time. This prevents the cabinet from tipping over when multiple drawers are opened. Too many 5'2" 105 pound secretaries got squashed back in the day because they forgot their situational awareness. Make sure ALL the drawers are completely shut, then open the one you want.

I just got done with my dumpster diving for the night, and I found literally 70 pressed, clean, almost brand new Land's End neckties, shoes, button down long sleeves, and pants. I think someone's grandpa died. Used each article sells from 15-40 dollars. I just had another $1000 dumpster haul Mikey!!!!! Keep it up scrapper.

That loaded dumpster reminded me of a loaded one we found in Manhattan, ended up tossing the entire dumpster over ,& just throwing the trash & garbage back in the dumpster & got tons of good scrap & stuffs

I work for a landfill and people throw away copper pipe and brass valves and fittings. What goes in the trash is considered fair game. Meaning I collected all that comes in. I take to the recycling places and make money on the side that helps pay for my bills and vacation trips.

I put out a bunch of scrap this week. I enjoy hearing the clanging of metal hitting the truck bed. Also know it's not going too the dump. And the scrapper is going too make some money. angel from Norfolk VA.
