I have to believe that this is what Frank Herbert envisioned when he wrote Dune, and that vision is finally being fully realized on the screen. The trailer is breathtaking: the film will undoubtedly be mind-blowing.

A believable Paul Attraties. Kyle MacLachlan was too old looking for the beginning part in the 80's version, and these eFx, I was welled up just watching the trailers, everything is so huge looking, those guys running from the Sandworms.

I don't think the scale of Dune could ever be encapsulted in cinema, but this is about as great as it will get. However, the books w/ their philosophies on religion, leadership, and life will always be irreplaceable.

Thank you for not treating it like a comic book movie. I was mentored one summer in 1976 by Frank Herbert in Washington State. On the last day of my time with him, he and his wife had me over for dinner where Frank cooked us homemade lasagna while his wife told me of her part in the creation of the Dune story. I had the entire file of everything Paul ever did in his life including things that were never in the books because they played no place in the plot. It was single space typed and about a foot tall and I had it on my lap. I know that Paul fell out of a tree when he was a small boy and broke one of his arms. The Mentats healed it and it never effected him or the storyline. As someone who spent quality time learning from a master, I know that Mr Herbert would have approved that it has a more epic feel than comic book movies could accomplish and is the best representation of the novel of all that tried.

I hope they have fixed the sound for part 2. Part 1 was horrendous. I also hope they have fixed the abysmal cinematography from part 1 as well. Otherwise it's the Lord Of The Rings movies all over again.

My cousin was a fanatic Dune fan. He loved the first movie and couldn't wait for the second. (His enthusiasm for Dune was infectious.) He lamented how long he had to wait for the second installment. Cancer took him last year. I inherited his Dune library. Those well-worn books haunt me. I have mixed feelings about going to see the second movie.

I can’t remember the last time I was rendered speechless over a TRAILER…But THIS!!!?? If I’m this blown away by the SCOPE of this just on my IPad I can’t imagine my reaction on an IMAX screen. Denis has crafted what looks like arguably the greatest SCI-FI epic in the history of Cinema. I get the feeling David Lean would be shitting his pants in envy watching it.

Got a ticket for the 1 p.m. matinee showing tomorrow at theater near me. Extremely excited to see this. My first read of Dune was while deployed to Marine Corps Base 29 Palms, CA for a 3-week desert warfare training exercise in fall of '82. Made the book very real for me.

The movie did not disappoint. I could watch this movie back to back and still would want to watch it again after that. What a masterpiece. Only sad part is how long we gonna have to wait for a part 3.

Everything Else Pales by Comparison! I started reading Frank Herbert in the '70s and have waited my whole life for Djune to be fully Realized on Film. "Chapter House" is my Favorite! Miles Teg & Duncan Idaho are as equally Compelling as Paul Muad dib.

@@AldousHuxleysCat I actually liked what the SyFy channel did. They stayed true to the story. Most of the complaints I’ve heard about the SyFy’s version were about the special effects. But considering their budget I accept those limitations and am more interested in the story. My only real complaint about the SyFy effort was their inability to keep all the same actors and actresses in Children of Dune. I know why they couldn’t, but it still bothered me….

this dune is not even close to the epic LOR or SW's. It's only ok because of weak actor choices and just awful screenplay that is trying to make up in CGI instead of a better story. Little timmy is just not Paul. Willy wonka is a better fit for his tiny frame.

@@medou2161 the source material was pretty awesome in ways which fly over most peoples heads. You want a list of the things I like? that a loooooong list (I dont think theres a medium i dont consume, and I feel I've consumed masterpieces from all of them), but one thing I dislike completely is when im sold an "inspired by" story as an adaptation AND the story misses EVERYTHING important AND makes the universe of the story not work at all. But people bought with means as shallow as pretty lights, handsome facesand strinking sounds is nothing new.

In what ways do you think it "makes the universe of the story not work at all"? I hope it is better than Part 1, because it took 2 gallons of strong coffee on a full blader to stay awake for that. Though it doesn't give me much hope, my son saw part 2 last night and felt his evening would have been more exciting if he'd stayed home and rearranged his sock drawer.😮
