@@jonetsu8890 Unfortunately I've only just started reading the second book so I can't offer my opinion, but the first book I thought was really is great even as a stand-alone book :) It can definitely be seen as a tough read and lengthy! But I found it a lot easier to read than e.g. A Song of Ice and Fire, seeing the film first I think made it an easier read too.

And an artist and creative i can agree. Creativity at its best. Perhaps a lesser known story here but whats made clear from the start is the expansivity of it all. I just home from my 3rd viewing and honestly i think the editor is even a hero... the way they nipped and trimmed the sharp cinematographic shots it made me think damn they're coming at it rather philosophically the way a lot of the mastershots and other scenes were cut lean and not overly self aggrandizing even though drool worthy...which could also be attributed to perhaps a middle eastern conservative framework.. but idk i just like it.

I saw this 2 days ago in Imax 3D and this is an experience the cinema was made for, that can not be replicated on your homescreen, even with 4K and a good surround system. While Imax 3D is something I still would not consider quite developed yet, the illusion of depth in the film made the visuals much more... tangible I guess? Also the score and sound blows you out of the water, but not necessarily in an annoying way (one big gripe I had with TENET for example), but it feels like you are in an Ornithopter or a grenade detonates next to you. The Immersion is way more intense that way. That was a great movie, I certainly hope for a part 2. I have some gripes with some design and story decisions and was a little disappointed on a really high level, but the visuals and sound alone are an experience you simply HAVE to experience in cinema. Seeing these Behind the Scenes makes you realize how much work and love went into this, but with Denis, this is certainly not news and even without these looks behind the curtain, you can see in every shot of the movie how much dedication went into it.

@@imp4ktth Totally unidimensional and lacked layers. As I've seen in many reviews of the movie, the polytical part wasn't depicted as in the books in order to make the movie "watchable" for as many people as possible. I assume that's the reason I felt this way. The Baron looked like he was baddie doing baddie things just because he has to. Absolutely generic. Really liked the film though (besides this and the whole betrayal part).
@imp4ktth
@imp4ktth 2 жыл бұрын
@@Zerradable welp, about the 'as many people as possible' part, i think youre kind of wrong in there. A breakdown video by Denis clearly stated that it wasnt meant for marvel/star wars/pacific rim audience. The baron might be a bit cliche, yes, but his appearance giving the 'i see no god up here other than me' engulfed the genericness of the baron. Plus, a villain with a cheerful childhood then forced into the dark path is kind of overused these days. I personally call them 'woke' villains lol. It's just the new era star wars all over again. So yeah, imo a villain that has always been a villain with the objective to gain more power is better than a loving character who turned evil for a reason that would create a new plothole and more unnecessary information.
@Zerradable
@Zerradable 2 жыл бұрын
@@imp4ktth It clearly wasn't made for superheroes fans, I'm just paraphrasing what I've heard/read before that could explain this overly generic villain. Also, I wouldn't expect out of all people in our "woke" era to hear a FRENCH-CANADIAN director admiting that he made his movie more mundane for such a "filthy viewers" as the Marvel fans you described. In the end, it's a movie, it relies on paying its bills and he definitely made some adjustments to make the movie palatable for the widest audience possible without harming the original material. I honestly prefer the "breaking bad" route, but i wouldn't mind a villain being bad just for the sake of it if there were some reason for that (culture, genetic modification, or something else).

There's _TONS_ of CGI in this movie. Just because they filmed on location with practical effects and rarely used a green screen doesn't mean there's no CGI. It just means they didn't create most of the visuals from whole cloth on a computer, like so many other blockbusters do. I guarantee you that damn near every frame of the film has _some_ kind of CGI in it, but as long as it's done well you won't even notice.

@s t a y A house is one thing. Alien planets and fantastical action set pieces are another. The bigger the spectacle, the more work must go into the CGI, and the easier it is to notice that it's not real. Practical effects go a long way towards making fantasy and sci-fi worlds look believable. Starting with practical sets/effects and carefully enhancing with CGI gives you Mad Max: Fury Road. Filming on a green screen and making the whole world out of CGI gives you the Star Wars prequels.

Love hearing how they used practical sets like would had bk in the 70s and earlier. Real magic what they come up with to do things. Not everything has to be VFX Don’t get me wrong it’s also amazing what they can do with VFX on a computer and their imagination and hard work there as well. But when I think Hollywood movies I still think of the amazing sets and crafty ways they come about to make the movie. Plus it’s stuff u can keep and hold in ur hands and touch. Just means more to me and sure many others. Sometimes old ways are still better then new at times. Shame so many old ways are lost arts now.

its Harkonnen, not Hark-o-nen. They used Hark-o-nen in Lynch's movie. But Frank Herbert used Harkonnen and Brian Herbert's "House Harkonnen" made it clear the family is Scandanavian in origin, not German. Although the German implication in Lynch's film gave us that impression of evil that in the 80's would still be present in Western minds from WWII. Now we have Game of Thrones and Viking movies, so... people can get the symbolism implied in the Baron's family name.

I think practical, in general, are more realistic. Like most of the Lord of the rings trilogy was practical effects and that looked wayyyy better than the Hobbit.

CGI is super dependent on how much time the project allows for post-production. If they don't give VFX teams not enough time, they'll have to cut corners. And if a production is being chaotic and suffers from delays, it shortens the post-prod time even more.
