Stilgar was almost as pivotal in fulfilling the prophecy as the Bene gesserit
@carmacksanderson393717 күн бұрын
Arguably more. He played kingmaker in how he coaxed Jessica into becoming the Reverend Mother, setting off the rest of the events. He was the final catalyst (arguably penultimate if you were to consider Paul being the final one)
@ProfessionalCommentor17 күн бұрын
It makes me think that he wasn’t just another believer but really was pushing it in a way, wanting green paradise during his time and fully coming into it
@grantwithers17 күн бұрын
He absolutely was. It's made more clear in the books. As, even if paul died right after he left caladan, and Jessica also died along with Alia, Stilgar would still have led the fremen in a jihad in his name across the galaxy. And if stilgar had died it would have been the no. 2 fantatic and on and on down the line.
@AbcDino84314 күн бұрын
The Stilgar in the movie is an exaggeration of the Stilgar in the books. Him and Chani were changed the most, to be the vehicles of delivering the story at an accelerated pace that fit the studio's plans. I am grateful for the films, but it's a missed opportunity to tell the story in a more authentic way, in three rather than two films.
@pyotrbagration243814 күн бұрын
@@AbcDino843 Yeah, given how the pace for part 2 was, I was expecting a trilogy ( then again I dont read tabloids so it might have been said previously that the first book will only have two parts), the ending seemed a bit rushed. All in all a great movie.

I love how in the south “I’ll lead you to paradise” is meant into the goal of a green planet as Paul will be their destiny while in the final scene “lead them to paradise” is meant as -send them to hell- and giving back the ownership of fremens’s destiny.

Javier Bardem's performance as Stilgar was phenomenal. His portrayal of the character is so serious and committed to his beliefs that it becomes humorous for the viewer due to the intensity of his faith. In real life, such unwavering dedication is rare, making Stilgar stand out. This might remind us of how we sometimes find deeply religious people, like those in Amish or conservative Muslim communities, unintentionally funny. While Stilgar himself isn't meant to be humorous, Javier Bardem delivers a fantastic performance. Dune's overall casting is perfect; it feels like the characters were written explicitly for the actors. An amazing film - visually stunning, conceptually brilliant, with superb acting and a phenomenal score.

Stilgar is without a doubt in my top five fave characters. Duncan, stilgar, miles teg, darwi odrade, leto ll. Stilgar is the quintessential poster soldier for reasons religious zealotry can cripple any logically built society and those religious zealots that do foght, they will die jo matter how terribly doing so with a smile as all else and their victims dies screaming. Pauls jihad killed many billions of people. Hundreds of millions of men, women and children died.. entire planet were practically scrubbed of all non believers. To deny muhadib was to beg for death. Even later in the books when leto ll takes over, pauls effect would literally echo for thousands and thousands if not millions of years. Pauls refusal to complete the task and sujugate humanity with such absolute terror and tyranny that they would never, as a fact of genetic hatred towards tyrants, allow a aingle person no matter they are a god or not, dictate the will of many billlions of people. Pauls influence led to the great scattering, humanity in all its forms, creeds and factions all the way to the farmer and his children ventured out into the stars, never more would humanitya destiny be under the scrutiny and decisions of one being. With this new found freedom in the original six books, there were ultimately unforseen consequences, the reasons being numerous but essentially factors and data outside the knowledge and calculations of the combined sum of a gargantuan amount of brilliant nind xouod bot poaaibly fathom what would in finality be humanities greatest foe whixh i wont spoil here.

Can anybody tell me what the difference between Lisan Al-Gaib and Kwisatz Haderach?
@destiny435317 күн бұрын
If my understanding is correct, “Kwisatz Haderach” is what the Bene Gesserit have been working towards for thousands of years through selective breeding. The Kwisatz Haderach is a man born of a Bene Gesserit mother who would be able to be trained in the Bene Gesserit ways and whose mind could withstand the process of drinking the spice, converting the poison so they did not die, and unlocking both the female and male lineage memories of their ancestors (the female Bene Geserate could only unlock the female memories, and all men except the K.H. Would die in the attempt). The Lisa’s Al-Gaib (translation “a voice from the outer world”) is a Fremmen legend in which an outsider would come to live with the Fremmen, learn their ways, ride the largest sand worm, and whose mother would be a reverend mother (holy woman). The Lisan Al-Gaib is prophesied to lead the Fremmen to victory against their oppressors and transform the desert planet into a green paradise (“terraforming”) The two things aren’t necessarily connected - just sort of work out to be decided by everyone to be Paul since he matches both descriptions. He doesn’t necessarily believe in the Fremmen L.A.G., but Stilgar devoutly believes, and it ends up working out for Paul’s goals to assume the role
@nationalsocialism350417 күн бұрын
@destiny4353 your understanding is incorrect in that they are intimately linked... Paul is a Kwistaz Haderach which by definition makes him the Lisan Al-Gaib. The Bene Gesserit manufactured a "prophecy" like the Lisan Al-Gaib on every of the million worlds in the Imperium since they didn't know where their breeding experiment would bear fruit when they started 10,000 years ago. The Harroken bloodline being the best prospect for fulfilling that goal only was focused on in the previous few centuries with Arrakis being the world that the Kwistaz Haderach was supposed to emerge on. The Kwistaz Haderach emerging on any other world would have fulfilled the prophecy manufactured for that worlds culture. I'm not saying that the Bene Gesserit plan would have worked even without Jessica running it off a cliff... but they did have a plan & it was tailored to keeping stability within the Imperium. The Kwistaz Haderach would do whatever he wanted from that point & the Chief Navigator talked long shit to the Mother Superior about the Bene Gesserit creating a Kwistaz Haderach. The Navigator Guild already having done so millennia ago using spice in a forced evolution but they almost immediately realized their mistake & killed the Kwistaz Haderach they created before he could escape containment.
@nationalsocialism350417 күн бұрын
They are the same... being a Kwistaz Haderach makes Paul the Lisan Al-Gaib on Arrakis. If Paul reached apotheosis and became a god on any other planet... then he would have fulfilled a different prophecy & had a different name for being their Messiah, but every world has a Bene Gesserit manufactured religion for a Kwistaz Haderach to fulfill as its Messiah.

@@nationalsocialism3504 isn’t that sort of the whole point the author was trying to make? Paul was “bred” to be the K.H. By the Bene Gesserit. It was a goal they were actively working on to further their own means. They wanted to gain control of the universe by having their own male trained in their ways rise through the ranks. The Bene Gesserit had no interest in helping the fremen. They DID also plant seeds of religious prophesy thousands of years ago on different planners in the hopes it would further their own means, but they had no control over how the legends would ultimately evolve in the planets. And the author was making a point that Paul is NOT inherently the Fremen LAG (too much work to check my spelling each time lol). He IS the KH though and therefore is powerful enough to fulfill the “prophesies” of the LAG. He and his mother choose* to go down that path. TLDR: the LAG prophesy was planted. Paul is the KH and there happened to be a conveniently planted prophesy that he also happens to fit into (by design and by choice). They aren’t the “same thing,” but they both end up being Paul.

I don’t mean I am correct; I mean the author intentionally leaves it up in the air for discussion and a cautionary tale of putting blind faith into a “hero.”

Dune 2 Summarized: "I am not the Messiah...." "HE IS THE MESSIAH!!!"

In the book everyone believe in Paul. I don't like how they changed that in the movie 🙄
