one of my favourite moments in the book that shows Paul internal turmoil about his legacy was when he noticed one of his friends go from a friend to a follower. it made him sad.

Seven years later and "Atreideez nuts!" is still one of the best jokes ever uttered. Too bad this series got discontinued. This one and the Mountains of Madness were downright amazing.

I've read Dune once a year, every year, since about 1997, and this is probably the most succinct synopsis I've ever heard.

@@grproteus yes, leto the 2nd had the courage Paul lacked to actually follow the golden path in the way he saw fit. Leto the second is closer to the true hero of the story, but in a way he knew his legacy would be nothing but scorned from what he needed to do.

Regarding the comments that say thug note did a good job explaining the whole book in 5 minutes... I'd like to point out the fact that he actually explained the whole book in 3 min. The other 2.5 min was analysis. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

I’ve listened to the audiobook several times (I fell asleep by the end almost every time), I know that a the more nuanced details are missing, but this is the best explanation I’ve ever seen!

Reece Crump Audiobooks are just awesome in general. I have a buddy who drives for a living and has a really hard time reading books because of dyslexia. He started listening to audiobooks in the car and now his literary knowledge is pretty impressive. He never would have been able to absorb those stories before without having to struggle through them in his free time. Now he can just listen while he drives around at work.

Actually he (in the video)did too, a lot of the words in the are actually aravic and hebrew words. Or at least based on these languages. Do you want any examples?

12 34 It must be hard making these videos and have people in the comments like “I’m so impressed someone like that captures the themes so well” and he’s like “I have a fucking doctorate”. I mean, his character choice was intentional about leaning into the stereotype, but I’m sure the intent was to flip it, not reinforce it.

Well, not perfectly. Like with how Paul didn't get his prescience from the water of life. He already had it by taking large amounts of spice. The water of life gave him the ability to communicate and have the memories of his ancestors.

I remember falling in love with book my freshman year. It transformed my life because before then I was not an avid reader, hell, I never read books at all, not even for book reports. But after reading it I fell in love with books and I continue to read because of Frank Herbert's Dune.

5:00 I saw Dune: Part 2 yesterday and couldn’t help but remember this passage as I watched. Seeing Stilgar go from a friend and somewhat mentor to falling to his knees to worship Paul as the prophecy is fulfilled is portrayed so well. I think the Villeneuve adaptation of Dune will go down as the science fiction equivalent of Peter Jackson’s adaptation of Lord of the Rings.

This is one of the best written and awesome Science Fiction novels in existence. My other favorite is Rendezvous with Rama. Both are completely self contained worlds of pure science fiction exploration and wonder.

I had a group of seventh graders that wanted to know about dune Because they saw it on my list of my top 10 books at number one. And then they saw the trailer for the new movie. I directed all of them to this video and said watch it when you’re at home but it’s a pretty good synopsis of the story

Dune is the book that taught me how to read fiction and is the only book I’ve ever read more than once. It’s my all time favorite. This video is great and I’d love to see a deeper dive into the book and the other characters.

I'm flabbergasted with how fantastic this summary was! The right ammount of fun, sarcastic and insightful! Loved the conclusion, which takes away from the saviour to the inspiration to self-salvation. Wonderfully done, Sir. A surprise to be sure, but a welcomed one!

Dune does feel somewhat inspired by Heidegger, kind of like the arrogance of man to act against its own ecology and the inevitable cycles of conflict it creates.

If you watched Dune Part 2 and didn't like what they did to Stilgar from Part 1, look at @5:00 . What the legend of Paul did to Stilgar is actually such a beautiful cautionary tale and the movie did an excellent job capturing it.
