Hello, everybody! I'm Oscar Ibañez, a member of Dungeon Universalis team. I would like to announce that, given the success the game has achieved worldwide, we are going to launch a reprint campaign on Kickstarter that will also include several expansions. We expect this launch to take place shortly after the summer. Thank you all for your interest and keep enjoying our game. We’ve put the best of us in it!

These are the type of games I see myself playing in my 50s or retirement age. I'm 35 with two kids and there's no way I can get this to the table I fear. Still, I'm excited to see these games come to fruition. It's almost like window shopping for me on your channel. Great coverage as per usual. I need to get a copy of Horrified at somepoint.

I’m so glad in today’s gaming climate where streamlining is generally favored that games like Dungeon Universalis and Dungeon Crusade still exist for us folks who love deep, and as you put it, crunchy games.
@DieNische4 жыл бұрын
So true. And thank God, Crowdfunding exists. We would not see these games on regular retail channels. Take Dungeon Degenerates for another example. ;) Galaxy Defenders is another one. It failed on the retail market, God knows why, maybe because of its harsh difficulty (that is what the designer said).

Thanks Daniel another nice job. I did back this for a $1 but didn’t convert this to a full pledge. If I remember it was the translation worry that was holding me back. But it looks like they have done a really professional job all round. Between this and Hunters 2114 I would say your fully booked for the rest of the year.

The translation issue was cause for concern. I don't think it's a perfect translation....there are some oddly phrased sentences and errors. However, so far it hasn't prevented me from understanding the game.

I don't mind modding and tweaking rules though, so I'm looking forward to hearing more about this one and seeing how it shakes out.

I cannot wait for your review to come out. I skipped this KS because it felt too ambitious with its multiple modes to play. It is difficult enough to playtest and develop a pure game in itself (especially of this size) but a first time creator with that much content and multiple modes, I doubted that this could work at all. I mean even full coop experts like Gremlin Project (Sword & Sorcery), who concentrate on pure coop, have to deal with Balance issues. So crossing fingers for you. ;)
@TheDungeonDive4 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that you and I value "balance" in different ways. I don't like balanced games. To me, balance often means boring; when things are balanced, there is often very little excitement because things are equal. I don't mind games that swing wildly from too hard to too easy. But I think you value balance more than I do.
@DieNische4 жыл бұрын
@@TheDungeonDive I would argue that a balanced game does not have to lack excitement. I love swingyness because, as you have said, it causes moments of fear and joy. :) But: Balance has to be present there. The big boss battles in Galaxy Defenders are fun because of its ingenious balance and yet, they are exciting as they could be. Take Darklight on the other side. The balance is so off, that even the bit of theoretical excitement is killed after several games. Balance does not mean playing on rails. I would call Lost Tomb a balanced game overall and we both know how exciting it is. ;) But games where I have to houserule too much because of its balance I find annoying.

I think so! 🙂 Really looking forward to get TGB on the table!!!!
@dustinfreund51964 жыл бұрын
@@DieNische "Better" is a tough one because while both games are part of the same genre, they are vastly different. DU Pros - hundreds of hours of gameplay, it appears; an incredible amount of options and depth; a perhaps overwhelming number of monsters; a sandbox to create your own stories and adventures. TGB Pros - easy to learn; quick to set up; a story that is pre-written so players are experiencing that story rather than telling their own in this universe (some may enjoy that, others may wish they could create their own). TGB is not unlike Diablo, old school Final Fantasy or World of Warcraft, where the narrative and environments are avenues to give purpose to the combat. TGB is very much a combat-focused game, but does have strong elements of exploration, random events, and all that good stuff. I think that's one of the things I love most about dungeon crawlers is that there are so many different variations of the genre, all of which can be extremely fun and compelling if designed well. That's why there will never be a "dungeon crawler to end all dungeon crawlers," because there is always room for new variations.

@@HBBackstar Thanks so much...shouldn't be too much longer! Just wrapping up the final rulebook and continuing playtesting all the missions ad nauseam...then we should be able to hit the print button sometime this summer.
@HBBackstar4 жыл бұрын
Dustin Freund Dustin, do not worry. Take your time to playtest. If I am asked which steps are most important in late development stage, I would say: 1. Playtesting, 2. Playtesting, 3. Playtesting, 4. Take your time for a final and clear rulebook and player aids! :P

When it was on Kickstarter, I was just at the start of kickstarting and dungeon crawling as well. At that time I thought that I wasn't ready for such game. Looking at the amount of content in DU, not sure if I'm ready even now. :)

I've been playing these games for decades, and this is definitely the most robust DC I've seen. I won't be using all of the rules when I play.
@aistis21884 жыл бұрын
I'm very new to boardgaming, so there is much to know and learn. :) I have to admit, that at the moment I'm very dependent on the narrative the games lead you into because that my imagination, let's put it mildly, isn't so good. But yours and Geek Gamers channels is a trove of thoughts and ideas, so I'm broadening my view and learning about the ways how to make the adventure first in my head and enhance it in the game.
@Boardgamer694 жыл бұрын
Good video as always. At first I was complaining because of all the things you need to do in order to play. But now I've started to create my own set of rules for combat in order to keep it easy...and now I'm going to think how to manage ennemies/standees/attributes/wounds....cos having tokens around standees is not a fun/ergonomic solution I may do what Gloomhaven do....an envelope to put a scan of ennemy card(cos there're not printed, only in bestiaries), and something to follow Hit Points for each standee with the standee's number...and use it to put weapons tokens too...maybe it can work. The dark player AI is well done and easy to use, and it can be quite fun for the solo/coop even when you no the scenario.
@TheDungeonDive4 жыл бұрын
What kind of things are you using / leaving out? Are you finding that the Dark AI player has the ability to surprise you with traps and stuff?
@Boardgamer694 жыл бұрын
@@TheDungeonDive The Dark player in solo mode is a kind of event generator either Obstacle or Encounter depending on one character action(open door, chest, revealing new room) so yes it could surprise you and it is easy to do. The good things is that it consumes DP points from the reserve created at the beginning based on character values. I won't go too much on partiel cover, heights, and I wont compare agility, I will follow a list like this one for ranged attack Modifiers : A/ From Target +1 if in the back ( No shield use for target ) +2 if immobile target +1 if Tall +2 if Huge -1 if flying -1 if Small -2 if more than half Weapon distance B/ From attacker -1 if shot after moving -1 if all move capacity used -2 if defensive shot So I can quickly go trough this list and roll dices....and the same for Melee combat and Magic, I want to avoid looking too much in books or the Screen "Messy" Master and I want to look at ennemies plus and minus the fastest as possible...Cos If I have to spend 5 minutes knowing that at the end I have -1 modifier it will be boring

Cool video! A certain mix of fantasy and the Middle Ages is explained by the fact that Arasca is a hidden continent on our planet and these are immigrants)) And AI really makes understanding the game more difficult by 70 percent, but if you remove a couple of rules, playing with it becomes pretty fast, including generating enemy soldiers (this is convenient because of the numbers on the back of the stands).
