FYI I'm watching this campaign more regularly than I'm watching Critical Role now! Keep it up, I love what you all are doing. This campaign is also much more accessible and understandable to someone new to D&D, and I've been recommending players new to D&D that I'm about to start DM'ing for soon (I've been doing it since AD&D days) to watch Dungeons of Drakkenheim to get an idea of what to expect. With that said, I want to suggest again -- making a "debrief" episode that's like a commentary you find on DVD's where you guys discuss the mechanics used in the episode to teach in a way that viewers can watch in practical use, and maybe reasoning behind making certain choices to demonstrate why a player would do one thing or another as either a better tactical choice or a better RP choice. That would really add a lot to using this campaign as a teaching tool. Much love and aloha from Hawaii!

It's really nice that I can watch this with my kids. Also the story formation, and character development is so much better. To be fair Matt is a awesome voice actor and a smooth story teller. My problem is when they level up, they wake and hey look I'm now a arcane trickster and can cast 5 spells. I didn't know I wanted to be a magic user yesterday. The way Monty weaves the story around the characters and their choices is beyond fantastic. The PCs do a super job developing their characters in a realistic way, and role play together like companions in some of our favorite books. In that regard it wouldn't take much polishing to transcribe this into a book.

@DungeonDudes
@DungeonDudes 5 жыл бұрын
I'd love to do this video. Warning: a mini-rant from Monty follows: The rules for darkness are *nonsensical* in 5e. According to the PHB, areas of darkness -- magical or not -- are called "totally obscured areas" which "block vision entirely". A later errata added a line that you are effectively "blinded when trying to see something in these areas" but it doesn't address the fundamental issue that grouping darkness in the same category as *fog* is a massive rules oversight. The result is that Darkness (both the phenomena and the spell) are effectively "ink blots" which blind creatures within them entirely, rather real-work darkness, which is permeable. Note that the only trait of the magical darkness (like that created by the Darkness spell) is that creatures with Darkvision can't see through it. It otherwise works exactly like "natural" darkness. The fundamental result is that by the game rules, if creature "A" stands in a pool of light, and creature "B" stands in an area of total darkness, by the rules as presented, neither would be able to see each other. In real life, this would not be the case: "A" would not be able to see "B", but "B" would be able to see "A". Now, "B" might not be able to see their immediate surroundings very well, but is perfectly capable of seeing anything in the illuminated area: just like being in a cinema or theatre, where you can see the actors/movie by can't read the face of your watch. Now for the real mess: if a third creature, "C", was also standing on the edge of the darkness, "B" would be able to see "C"'s silhouette, but "A" might not be able to see "C" at all. A creature in an area of darkness, but who is standing in front of a light source (even if the light source isn't directed at them) can still be visible to creatures facing the illuminated source. Again, this is all how light works in the real world, not in the game rules. If we followed the "real world" interpretation, the Darkness spell would have some very strange effects in a brightly lit area. In this case, creatures in the area of Darkness would appear as silhouettes to everyone around them (a very mind-bending mental image, actually) Instead, effectively using the Darkness spell would require positioning such that it either snuffed out all light sources in the area, or overlapped against a wall/ already-existing area of darkness which would prevent the "silhouette" effect from occurring. Whew. That was a long rant. Thanks for indulging me!
@T3h_Marganus
@T3h_Marganus 5 жыл бұрын
@@DungeonDudes You described pretty well in detail how I treat natural darkness in my campaigns and adventures. With the Darkness spell though, I think of it that it absorbs all light in the area, even light passing through it, so that silhouettes don't appear. Rules that don't make sense should be altered, afterall.

Your interactions are so natural and I think this is the most similar to my actual dnd campaigns!!! I really like the concept of picking your routes for travel in this kind of way, it’s really interesting to listen to!!! And the factions are so cool, I’m really interesting in seeing more of them (especially the Hooded Lanterns and the Paladin order that I can’t remember the name of)

Coming in Way after it first came out but I really enjoy Veo's obsession with fish! I remember a video where our dungeon dudes talk about things you're character will pursue that the DM can use as hooks to move the story, Veo's pursuit of salmon is great for that!

When last we left our heroes. That's exactly how I start my sessions. I can't watch other people play D&D, but I can watch these guys and gal. Good stuff.

This is the only D&D stream I manage to follow. The players interactions are fun and the flow is great. It reminds me how we used to play Shadowrun many years ago. I am actually excited to listen to the next campaigns.

This was an absolute gem of an episode. Hanging on every word of the prodigal son returned story, wholesome family reunions and the adventurers finally bonding together as a unit, followed up by hilarious Pluto plotlines (sending JJ towards the Crater was classic. And the Not-even-a-planet line had me rolling😂). This episode had it all and it didnt rely on combat to make it interesting. Well done!

After bingeing your guys' informative D&D content while researching as a new player, I decided to give your Drakkenheim campaign a go and WOW I'm so glad I did! Amazing roleplay, DMing and interaction between the characters; it's exactly how I hope my future campaigns feel. I'm definitely going to be inhaling all 50-something episodes ASAP. I'm 3 years late but thank you guys so much for sharing this with us! 💞💞💞

holy shit the updated map is so helpful. I was always trying to align what was being said to the map, and generally I'm good with maps but was having trouble, and now things make sense! thank you for the taking the time for that!

I'm way late to this party, but I've just begun watching this series (after binging like 85% of your other videos...) and I must admit this is the most inspiring and enjoyable shopping I have ever witnessed, I'm going to use Aldor's technique of tempting and teasing his customers with what they want in an RP sense to get more money out of them.

This is so refreshing to watch! This is as real as it gets. There is no fake scripted bullshit pretend. Just good friends playing D&D. Not only are you all good looking, smart, nerdy and funny, but you also actually know how to play the game! It is a delight to see combat how it’s supposed to be. I love the fact that you always throw at them the worst odds and they are always out numbered. But still finds a way to kick ass! You all know how to use spells and buffs in a very entertaining and creative way. It is so simple and clean, but at the same time so well thought out. I can tell you are really prepared but also leave room for the players to make choices. The sandbox illusion is perfect! You are also very good at improvising. Love this! This is by far the best D&D channel on KZfaq! Without a doubt!

Just started playing my second DnD campaign (first one was a dud, and lasted 4 sessions), and I been obsessing over this channel. The Content, The Entertainment, and The Wholesomes are top tier. May the binge-listening continue!
