were-ooze would be a clean freak, high levels of OCD about clutter and would have a compulsion to "collect" loose items that are not 'in their place'. Having the ooze ability in all forms they could absorb items directly into their bodies, potentially storing weapons and such inside of themselves for later use.

I like the were-tiger because it gives a lycanthrope that isn't a kill crazy monster and can be used in a way outside of a were that wants to attack the party. I always seen them as more of passive towards intelligent more friendly humanoids and not hunting them because that draws the ire of good folks (also there likely to be related if from the nearby town) but would have no problem killing and eating bandits and other less civilized folk.(no one will miss jerk races) Your focusing to much on the maneater aspect which really your portrayal basically has them coming off as evil, I always viewed true nuetral as always having a slight leaning towards other alignments. Generally a weretiger isn't going to hunt good civilized beings and is more likely to go after orcs r the like because even orc don't care if an orc goes missing.

Weretigers are neutral because they really don't care. They might kill you or not. like you or not or protect against evil or not. In human form, they are skilled fighters and often wont even shift unless necessary. They are generally solitary but can live in prides. They have hierarchy but that hierarchy is matriarchal.

I'd love to see a Wereraven entry in your series with some emphasis on their potential roles in Curse of Strahd

if you want to roleplay a weretiger you probably want to be turned mid advenuture where the rest of the party can help you cope and not become too territorial (and probably just less extrovert)

My players once got a wild hair up their butts in a campaign I ran to quest to find why most weretigers were female. I loved the challenge and drew up territories and thought up role play notes and how they could parlay or subdue each weretiger. They spent an unGodly amount of gold on silver infused wolfsbane as well as enhanced catnip and catnip infused spices among other things. They succeeded in their quest. Most weretigers were female because male weretigers always fought to the death. The females did not have this need. They scrapped out of the territory and accepted surrender with the loser able to leave and find new territory. That got me to make male weretigers be the strongest, maximum hit points per hit die and significantly stronger. It's not because males were stronger, it was because all weaker males the males met were killed.

I have played a weretiger cursed human by incorporating it into his backstory as him having been part of a hunt for one such beast that had gone awry. He’d joined the party originally because they were just traveling the same direction but he fell in with the party Warforged and ultimately became this kind of Boba Fett like bounty hunter who specialized in were-creatures. The personality took a little work but it was overall very fun to play.

If someone was bit by a Weretiger... Could they become another type of big cat like a Werejaguar, Werecheetah, or Werelion? Or is it only a Tiger? Or does it depend on the persons character? EDITED: You know what I just got down looking into it, and it seems that only werewolves can bite someone and pass on a completely different strain of the were-virus/were-curse. Which is actually pretty dope, and makes a lot of sense.

I'd love to heat your take on lizardfolk and the different ways they have been introduced. They have such a cool look but can be hard to play. For future videos, I am curious about your perception of how giant animals (spiders, rats, etc) might affect an area, how PC races might find them useful or a particular challenge, and ways players might interact with them.

As I was watching this weretiger video, I was also looking at the Monster Manual, and noticed the short blurb on Nonhuman Lycanthropes. "The statistics presented in this section assume a base creature of human. However, you can also use the statistics to represent nonhuman lycanthropes, adding verisimilitude by allowing a nonhuman lycanthrope to retain one or more of its humanoid racial traits. For example, an elf werewolf might have the Fey Ancestry trait." That made me suddenly think of a Tabaxi infected with Weretiger lycanthropy. Basic cat person goes all Bruce Banner and becomes ferocious combat machine cat person. Get the combination of Feline Agility with Pounce, "That cat is too far away to hurt me, I'll just shoot it with arrows... oh crap how did I get on the ground and how is the cat on top of me!?! Help!!"

Gonna necro this. Played 2e. Played a weretiger female, raised in Arrabar and shown the comforts of wealth. Last campaign, she had taken a small fishing village and turned it into a small walled city with the help of a Lyre of Building. Keeps a Roman Villa type estate furnished with wall to wall pillows. Hunts in nearby Ardeep Forest. It's kinda fun going into a rp session with the idea "I could eat them" rolling around in the back of your mind. Lol.

Wouldn’t the lack of empathetic bond and no desire for joining a group make for much better role play? They should have a really good reason for joining the group. You could have some naive player characters who don’t get the beasts nature- perhaps a bite-sized gnome or halfling. The more knowledgeable characters like the ranger would be looking out or the party and probably holding something over the weretiger. ...or perhaps the party members are more valuable as playthings than as food... for now. The trick to playing a neutral or evil character in a good party is to have some sort of morality chain; “if this party dies I will never obtain my goal of X” or “hey, I like this morsel, it entertains me and I consider this living being as my personal property. And we all know what happens to those who try and take my property from me”.

I imagine a PC weretiger would come from a failed attempt at killing the character which probably means, the PCs killed the original weretiger... I wonder how long the new weretiger would remain with the party before the weretiger instincts took over its mind and he/she no longer saw the party as friend, but food??

I like these monsters as potential allies or at least holders of key lore or information with whom the party has to bargain.

I tend to disagree I feel you were adding too many evil attributes, remember only One of their required alignments is neutral. I roleplay as a neutral good weretiger, and it's simply story and background that have to be adapted. The monster Manuel doesnt say anything about them being psychopathic predators.

I'm tired of more wakcy murderous chaotic evil monsters, so this was some fresh air, I tend to apply this logic to all the other lycanthropes, I treat them as a blend of their human and animal motives, so werewolves are pack focused and territory, bears likewise are territory, tigers are solitary hunters, rats are conclaves and nest focused, etc etc.

Scary thought a were-insectoid race. The idea of a humanoid creature changing and having their skeleton liquify an then after moving to the outside of their skin solidifying again on the outside is just ouch. One of the races I created as a version f shifter/were-kind was a race of druidic an shamanistic humanoids. The would commune with the animal spirits in these large totems in their villages, which would give them their shifting ability an their position/role in the village at their coming of age ceremony. Each fo the major climate an ecosystems had specific unique animal spirits to them, and even forgotten or heretical ones such as the Dire wolf or worg spirits.

I remember a 3.5 game where the party consisted of a half giant(fighter I think), a centaur ranger/sorcerer, a weretiger monk, and me a barbarian wild elf. It balanced out alright because I didn't have any level adjustment to deal with. It ended in an aboleth battle that came out of nowhere really. Barbarian elf got charmed/enthralled by aboleth and completely pulped the half giant player with a massive crit and I think another big hit or two. Centaur character was pretty much out of all spells and wouldn't be much for a fight. We didn't roll it all out because it was basically tpk but the were-tiger and barbarian would've been quite a fight. We were around level 9 equivalent and had really milked a quest giving wizard npc for boons and goodies. Most of which the Barbarian just added to his greatsword. Something like a +3 blooded greatsword (so no one else could use it) with at least a ×3 crit multiplier. Oh yeah and something like a gate type spell. I thought about trying to use it to boot the were-tiger character to another plane but it didn't get that far. I guess the point of the story is you really don't want to tango with a were-tiger, especially monk classed, even if you have a pretty ridiculously over powered weapon. If I ever do much dm'ing I do plan to include some kind of homage to this insane party at some point.

going from what i've read on settings with slime/ooze people (not a wereslime but close) the traits that would likely be off interest in would be they are not that intelligent capable of surviving on water and pretty much anything that could be considered food for a slime/ooze (would depend on the base ooze i suppose) they aren't usually aggressive (not sure if would remain so if converted to dnd use) some degree of shapeshifting resistant to most conventional weapons (swords,hammers,arrows) acidic skin

I have always said if your house cat was big enough to eat you, it would. It has nothing to do with affection. Cats just seem to be hardwired with a need to hunt and kill. Certainly the creature may love you. But if its need to be a predator activates and you fit the role of prey...well...they will be quite upset later as they are cleaning the blood off themselves.

I ran a trio (mother and son and daughter) the mother was an Acrobat 10/dual classed Shadowmage 12/ dual classed to Fighter 17. Son and daughter both half elf. Son holy crusader of Kelemvor 18. Daughter fighter 12/ thief 15. Keep in mind the story covered from Arrabar to Waterdeep over 18 years from 1356 DR. There was a thieves guild carnival, a murder, a kidnapping, a hunt for revenge, a juvenile shadow dragon, a couple of story custom demi-artifacts and if you can believe it, that clearing in Ardeep Forest just off the River Dessarin in 5e is exactly where they had set up shop by the end of 1374.

AJ coming from a background working with big cats I have to correct you on a small detail. I worked with big cats at "Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Garden" in Columbia, South Carolina for years. The big cat most prone to turning man eater and attacking humans unprovoked are Leopards. They are smaller and lighter than tigers by far but are much more temperamental and volatile. Lions are also debatably number 2 though it tends to be specific prides that learn man eating as a behaviour and a man-eating pride tends to teach each generation to hunt humans rather than it being spontaneous. Though tigers would be either number 2 or 3 debatably and Royal Bengal tigers in India take their share of people each year

I have an NPC in my campaign that is particullary strong. Besides being a Monk/Fighter (4 levels of monk/8 levels of fighter), she's also a weretiger. However, she has used her strength to subdue a vast number of lycanthropes and other shapeshifters, which she sells out as mercenaries. Needless to say, when the party met her, they didn't trust her. Mainly because she had 3 werewolf bodyguards. Should the party decide she is better of dead, they'll be in for a surprise when she starts dumping out 4-6 attacks per turn, heals herself, AND shapeshifts into a powerful weretiger.

I was pumped to play in a champagne were we got to add certain templates like lycanthropy, so I made a weretiger brawler but the group fell apart because of scheduling issues (WITH ALMOST EVERYONE..). Moral of the story don't get my hopes up lol.

Well there's always the Ooze Master prestige class from 3.5 or even the Slyth I suppose. Come to think of it, the Slyth might be what someone was confusing for a were ooze. If you're interested, they're from the 3.5 Underdark book. Humanoids who can change into ooze puddles.

I may have made a little mistake in one of my campaigns. I had two bounty hunters hunting one member of the party , and the bounty hunters ended up being a weretiger and werewolf and they only teamed up just to get the bounty and was going to back stab one of another later, but did not get the opportunity because the party killed them both. One of my party members were bitten and contracted the disease/curse of lycanthropy recently from a weretiger mostly due to the fact the party killed it before it could kill the wood elf mastermind. Then my Aasimar Bloodhunter got bitten and contracted the disease/curse of lycanthropy from the werewolf. Any suggestions on how to play with this mechanic, as of right now both the characters are currently unaware they contracted the disease/curse. Should I start off with having them go through somewhat subtle changes?

Weretigers being female only is not 'stupid'. Before Wizards of the Coast D&D it was established lore that weretigers were female and they only turned other females. It was like being in an exclusive club and 'no men allowed'. In the one campaign I played in where weretigers were a main feature, they were a coven of all-female druids who inhabited an ancient alpine forest. They had regular tigers as companions and guards. No one thought that idea was 'stupid'.
