I've never seen any other game like ddo, the sense of adventure is very present. Each quest has its story and usually contains way more than just the main objective. You are free to do any quests to lvl up and there is so many quest that even after me playing for many years there are still some i have never done. Also you cam create very unique characters, no two characters created will be the same with race trees, enhancement trees, universal trees feats, and the possibility to take levels of a different class than the original one make it so creating any character you please is possible. It sure is a nice change from games where a different player with the same class will do exactly the same thing you do. There is also a lot of difficulty settings, and it provides for a great challenge if you want it. With casual, normal, hard, elite and reaper has actually 10 difficulties from Reaper 1 to reaper 10. It provides a big challenge even for veterans. Even though much of the game is behind a pay wall they have recently started giving out codes for 95ish% of the content for free. Much of the locked content is unlockable by playing and you earn good amout of premium money by playing aswell so you can actually unlock everything for free. The community is also very kind and welcoming.

Build diversity, multiclassing, no Pay to win, no metas, dungeon master narration, hirelings system huuuuge variety of skills and spells on later on levels for every class. Tonns of various support items like scrolls, potions and wands. Ohh my god, DDO is a universe. Neverwinter is just an average MMO in DnD setting with not even a single DnD system used ingame.

Nice to see an unbiased comparison and breakdown. The reason the Neverwinter quest seems disjointed is because more than half of the original quest line has been removed. Even though you're forced to reach maximum level before you can do any new content, the leveling up quests are all watered down monotonous railroad experiences that I can only assume dissuade any new players from experiencing the full game.

Surely there's a better solution for the levelling! I think players deserve better than that. Especially when they provide such a nice combat control scheme.

Yeah, the old, pre-quest leveling system was better. In fact, Cryptic could rewind the game to Mod 12, and it would be way more fun than it is now. The only thing modern NW has going for it is combat. Everything else serves to drive you into the infinitely repetitive end-game, group content where you grind to have the exact same build as everybody else. Fun in the very short-term, but nothing to put down virtual roots for.

Been playing NW for almost 5 years, it has changed a lot during the years. When i first started playing loads of story, but also grindy campaigns & quests. Which meant it would take 9-12 months to get to do endgame stuff. Now they changed it & no one bothers with the story. It's all about getting your character to level 20 which you can do in 12-36 hours. Joining ques as fast as possible, to get AD, in order to buy higher il gear, in order to do more challenging content. So as much as i really like the combat aspect in NW, truth is there's a lot of ppl with high il gear, knowing f all about story, mechanics, or knowledge of best gear choices for their class etc. I play other games for story/questing experiences, not NW. 10th year anniversary coming up for NW, gonna be hanging around for that & mainly because of friends i've made in the game throughout the years ). Nice video, might give D&D a go )

level 20 in 12-36 hours?? In less than 36 hours you can reach level 60/65 quickly, always going on maps that are 5 levels above you, and there are crystal globes spread across the maps that give a lot of xp initially!
@WolfSpiritMan

Dungeons & Dragons universe is notorious for low level characters being very weak, very slow and very squishy. That translates into DDO just the same. You MUST get a DDO character to higher level before it starts to get really fun. It gets exceptional after 20 when your character has access to all their feats/spells/abilities. But DDO does one better by offering forever upgrades to your character every time you get to 20 and CHOOSE to start again at lv 1. The "Resurrection" mechanic was a brilliant addition. You CAN go all the way into Epics and Legendary content. Or you can go through the heroic again, but a wee bit more powerful than the last pass. And that continues... Players always have a choice. So so many cool choices all through the game.

This is honestly the reason DDO has kept me playing for 15+ years.. Reincarnating and being able to remake your character basically infinite number of ways adds so much replay value to this game. Plus it makes content at all levels still relevant which is genius move from a design standpoint

I just gave Neverwinter a good bash last night.. and yeah I've gotta agree with you 100%.. The combat feels good, but there's no challange at all.. no group content at all and I'm level 8.. just following the golden line with no sense of adventure.. I might give D&Do a go.. I want a classic WoW experience with the exploration/slower combat/rewarding progression.. Just very hard to find.
@HeavyMetalorRockfan9
@HeavyMetalorRockfan9 Жыл бұрын
DDO has one of the slowest reward progressions overall because of the reincarnation system Even if you hit max level, you can do that 3 times per race and class and iconic and now special trees and you will keep getting stronger each time, and then there is end game reaper content on top of that (so there's variety as well).

The fun part of this, is in (when playing) choosing how you would like to play the game (for example, focusing on one enemy at long range or many enemies at close range), and from here you can already choose the class that best suits you. to the way you play, each class is a different ddo game (even if it's the same game, it feels like many, and you want to try them all), to kill many at once, the best ones are the spell casters.

DDO is more true to the D&D experience, whereas Neverwinter provides a neat themed arcade experience. That is fine - but the immersion in DDO is stronger and the experience way more memorable. Well you can't compare Coq au vin with with a bucket of hot wings now can you. Both have merit 😅

so the take away I'm getting from the video is that D&D Online seems to be more inline with the tabletop game with how exp works and the puzzles and all that stuff, kind of, but also Neverwinter seems to as well with the milestone based experience gain. Hi. I have more than 10.000 hours logged on both games. I'm active on both. Considering everything - two elements that the player has to consider. -The timezone that you are going to play. In NWO, this implies finding an alliance in the same timezone to run content with you. In DDO, you need to see what server is more active for your timezone. -DDO is mostly based on Eberon (you can go to forgotten realms). This means that it is a bigger game. -NWO is only based on Forgotten Realms with the only exception being Barovia (which DDO also have). -DDO you can change your race and your class via a system of resurrections. -NWO you are stuck with your class. However most classes can be dps/healer, tank/healer, dps/tank or only dps.

@@PeteSmells It's our own hamster wheel,, but is a fun one, you get to play with all clases and races so and you are not stuck with any of them, leveling up is not that hard once you get a couple of lives, and make you getting low level items fun too, because you are going to usem them when you reincarnate.
@UchihaKat
@UchihaKat Жыл бұрын
@@PeteSmells Just to be clear (because many, many people typo this) it's actually the 'reincarnation' system. You reach certain level milestones, and you can reincarnate and you can rebuild your character as a new race/class from level 1, while gaining a minor power boost based on what you've been in past lives. It's a super fun way to try out all the options in the game without having to give up your attachment to 1 character.

I love DDO, i have been subscribed since the launch in 2006, but i don't have any real experience with anything else online, other than MWO, really. It is the only game i still play with any frequency these days. My son, who was a toddler when it came out, joined our group a handful of years ago 😉 The four of us get together a couple of times a week and I run a bit of solo content. Neverwinter hasn't ever really appealed to me and seeing a bit about how it works doesn't make me anymore enthusiastic.

You have campaigns with storys and adventures. Also some Nice dungeoun and group content. Its a system to it. Neverwinter is a really exiting game. Problem is you can buy yourself up. I just got to level 20 on Neverwinter, was playing both at the same time for a bit but I wanted to get over with the "hit level cap tutorial" You said you don't like MMOs, me neither. The whole Neverwinter experience is exactly why I hate MMOs, I went from trying to read quest text to just spamming 1 and standing still in boring boss easy fights. By Steam reviews Neverwinter is meant to be the better game and It probably is, but man I have enjoyed DDO so much more, I'm only up to like lvl 5 there which is after Korthos. I'll probably continue Neverwinter off and on just to "honestly dislike it" or "prove my judgement that I won't like it no matter how far I get" but DDO despite the bad score it has, it feels way closer to a fun RPG experience (Emphasis on "closer", if it was singleplayer it'd be awful, even tho I play it solo the appeal is ofc the MMO bit) the only thing Neverwinter I like more is that you start in the Forgotten Realms meanwhile in DDO you have to earn a bunch of store currency coins or pay $ to move to FR
