I have China to thank for my proficiency at pool. In a previous job, I spent 18 months in Pudong, Shanghai. There was pretty much zip else to do in the evenings but go to the ex-pat pub "The Red Lion" in Weifang Lu, because at least pretty much everyone there spoke English. And they had an American 9-ball pool table. You played for the table. I brought the Joss JOS-55 and Stinger Break/Jump Cue I had bought from Pooldawg when working in Denver, CO along with me. Some of the locals were pretty good players, so I had to up my game if I wanted to maximise my table time. Fortunately, there was always someone _a little_ better than me, so I gradually improved. What a transformation when I returned home and went to the Victoria in Hitchin, my old pool haunt! I had always been rated a good player there, but I kicked arse for a while. I haven't played pool for years because of work commitments, but I really don't think the skills I learned in Shanghai would take long to re-emerge. I'm thinking right now of my old cue case back home because of your videos. Thank you for re-awakening my hunger for pool.

Just regained my interest in pool at 31yrs if age, I’ve been shooting good at our local pool place, beat most of my coworkers. I kinda gained respect by taking Efren Reyes type of shots, but your videos make it possible to learn beyond that. Thank you 🙏🏼

pretty sure that 5:25 shot is not "pushing into the rail". if you can hit it, you banked it off the point. which also means you can cut it in (seeing as it cheats into the pocket). do you compete, or play against other players?

7:01 Don't play this shot with backspin, especially if you're not hitting it very hard. The effects of the backspin and lower power basically cancel each other out, and you can still scratch. Also, all the spin can come off before the cue ball makes contact, essentially making it a stun shot, which reduces accuracy and increases your chances of scratching.

@ 2:30 when you move the cue ball and hits the top rail, it jumps when it hits the rail. I've noticed it jump in other videos also, my cue ball also jumps when I try to bank a shot and sends the cue ball flying. Any idea what causes that to happen?

Izzy G raising your pool stick, aiming too low, aiming too high, miss cue
@bryanskinner92346 жыл бұрын
Several possibilities. Misaligned rails being too low or too high, all balls are not made to fit all tables, and the obvious too much top english on the ball.
@woody8166 жыл бұрын
Izzy G the balls jump all the time wen contact is made. It’s amazing to watch on super slow mo cameras. U can’t notice it with naked eye but over in uk especially in snooker they have super slow mos. Check it out u will be amazed

I'd like to see you spend a little more time on the side pocket rail compression shot. It would be good to see the slow motion close-up, as well as a full speed view from further back to show your stroke and the power you put into it. I really like your videos. Very informative. I'm 48 years old and have been shooting pool for roughly 40 of those years, off and on. Mostly on. I have a lot of respect for your game and your dedication to it. You're a sharp stick. I'd like to shoot a few games with you if you're ever in Phoenix.

@4:25 - This is similar to shot #33 from Ray Martin's 99 Critical Shots in Pool. I prefer Martin's version, which is to hit the object ball dead center, very hard with draw. This fully compresses the tip of the pocket and the draw transfers follow on the object ball. Your version (hitting the object ball at an angle) relies more on cushion compression and wall angle. Hitting the object ball at an angle on this shot might not work on other tables, particularly black Diamond tables where the wall angle is unforgiving. Keep up the good work! Earn some cash on your videos on KZfaq and buy some new cloth :)

Jumping ball after rail strike means the rails need to be changed or the ball is slightly too large for the table.

@DupreeTrickshots6 жыл бұрын
+tom a cue ball just went straight back 2 rails
@724riff6 жыл бұрын
The spot shots are incorrect , I don't believe you should ever hit a ball that slow that would allow the table to take control of the cueball either draw it to the side with conviction or play a harder follow shot , as far as the long spot shot with the cue ball near the breaking spot is considered a half ball hit and will pocket the ball every time , lets say your next ball is on the short rail you can draw the cueball to the long rail and it will spin up to the short rail going towards the object ball as apposed to a soft shot that relies in a perfect table . I am not sure if you can google the 4 inch rule on you tube its amazing what that will teach you with spot shots . everything from billiards to caroms
@g.u92836 жыл бұрын
that shot at 5.30 would never work at snooker.

American pool tables don't have pockets, they have buckets that are practically black holes to pool balls, it's impossible to miss.
@DupreeTrickshots6 жыл бұрын
+Kev Irl it’s the same proportion to English tables. The balls are bigger on American tables, therefore there are bigger pockets. The balls are smaller on an English table, therefore there are smaller pockets

Dupree Trickshots although the larger the ball and pocket, it getss exponentially easier to pot. You will miss a hell of a lot more shots with 2cm ball in a 3cm pocket than a 2 inch in 3 inch pocket. Also both tables are the same size
