Some 2011+ Dodge Durangos and Jeep Grand Cherokees came equipped with automatic self load levelling shocks called Nivomat shocks. These things create all kinds of weird handling problems when they fail. Normally when a vehicle has some kind of adjustable ride height suspension you'll see air springs or at least electrical connectors on the shock. Not so in this case. It's all self contained in the shock absorber unit. They are VERY expensive to replace but they CAN be replaced with a standard shock. You'll just need to purchase a standard shock mount as they are different.
The Nivomat shocks are fatter and if you can still read the label you'll see the manufacturer's name Sachs. If your vehicle has those and has any kind of mileage or age then get rid of them! Get yourself a standard shock! Just don't forget to get the standard shock mounts as well. You will notice a major improvement!

You have to change the rear springs as well.

@matthewcraine9772 You sure do. I realized that not long after. Sadly I've put it off for forever. We have a week shutdown next week for holidays so going to finally replace them then... If you're paying parts and labor then it's cheaper to replace the shocks with original load levelling shocks. Harder to find parts now though. But if you're doing the work yourself then still a little cheaper replacing shocks with non levelling and putting in new mounts and springs.

@@jp-ey7psI contacted Bilstein and was told to use SXT rear mounts. I test fitted SXT ones and due in fact fit. Mine origunaly came with LL rear suspension but previous owner did away with it and used standard shocks.

@@jp-ey7psmonroe should fit as the shaft is the same diameter than stick ones. Bilsteins are a bit thicker. Thats why they didnt fit.

One shock cost me 700$ at 70000k miles now I’m waiting on the other to fail. What’s the part number on the brackets for the replacement shocks?
