Colorado is known for its beautiful autumns with vibrant leaves covering the treetops of aspen trees across the state. It;s one of the best times of the year to take a ride along the Animas River to Silverton on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. Continuing the trend of regularly scheduled doubleheading steam excursions along the 45 mile long Silverton Branch, the Durango & Silverton rostered ex-Denver, Rio Grande & Western ALCo-built K-28 #473 and Baldwin-built K-36 #480, to run these packed 15 car trains the entire length of the line. This video covers four days of these doubleheaders through the beautiful autumn foliage of San Juan National Forest, both trackside and on the train. I consider myself somewhat of a critic when it comes to railroad videos. That being said, this video is downright excellent! Great video, audio, and content. How you managed to make this video appear as though it was all shot in one day is anybody’s guess, as well as you magically jumping off the train every few miles to get a shot of it going by. If it wasn’t for the engine numbers, you would have had me completely fooled!😉 Again, kudos on an excellent video! Now I guess I’m going to have to watch some of your other videos to see if they stack up to this one!

8:05 look very closely behind the fence on one of the relay boxes. There is a Mechanical Crossing bell, still mounted to it

Wow, great work, I love the rainy day too, the vegetation looks healthy! Interesting that 480 was the helper engine on the way up, but was the lone locomotive on the way back instead of 473 which would have been less labor to uncouple 480 in Silverton and send her on her way home, but then 473 is pulling the train into Rockwood off the highline then to Durango? I wonder what was up there?

They were swapping places all week, two days of 480 leading and taking the train back as well as the same for 473

481 is going to be the main power for the winter with 493 and 476 as back up. 486 will ne going in later this winter to start her 1472 and be converted. 480 will be getting driver work. 482 and 473 will be under maintenance for the winter. They most likely will not run till late winter or early spring.

My name is Yoshikage Kira. I’m 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don’t smoke, but I occasionally drink. I’m in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I’m trying to explain that I’m a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn’t lose to anyone.
