We initially opted for a hut with only a fan, but the scorching heat on our way to Shingwedzi Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park quickly made us decide to upgrade to a bungalow equipped with an air-conditioner and a fan, a decision which made our stay significantly more comfortable. Around this camp we had remarkable wildlife encounters, with one of the highlights being the mesmerising sight of numerous vultures soaring in the sky, perched on trees and scattered on the ground. We were then treated to the thrill of witnessing our first lion sightings of the trip, observing first a lone lioness munching on some remains and then a few at another carcass in the Shingwedzi River bed. The shop at Shingwedzi also held sentimental value, as it evoked memories from 1997 when Sonia purchased the hat I wore throughout our journey. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #krugernationalpark #shingwedzi #dustbugstravel

Hornbills come with own aircon! I can see that heat shimmering in the air, by now I would be flou! Seems to be serious drought. WE need to hear a few bangs! Thank you for filming so many ellies!! I really enjoy watching them them. You may alight from your vehicle but eat your own rusks! WE should have brought Ouma with! I love the Phumbas running down to the water with the tails upright. So cute. Nice little room for overstay, and yes, aircon is essential in that kind of heat even if it is noisy.

What makes it so pleasant is your enthusiasm. You help us see the Kruger through you eyes.

Hi Sonja and Curtis, I found this info on Brankey. BA (Bran) Key was a member of the then board of trustees of the SA National Parks Board who died in 1949 . He requested that his ashes be strewn in the Shingwedzi area (unsure if his request was for the ashes to be strewn in the precise location) - his favourite camp . His family donated money to erect a hut in Shingwedzi camp . Ranger W (Bill) Lamont carved the memorial out of sandstone .

The "Shingwedzi Poort" was also the "trading route" in the 1850/60's between the portuquese from Inhambane and the Dutch Boers living at Schoemansdal {Soutpansberg}
