Our trip to Klein Mier was an exhilarating adventure that exceeded all our expectations. The highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the opportunity to witness the awe-inspiring salt pans. The first pan we encountered was Klein Mier pan. Another highlight of our trip was the visit to Hakskeen Pan, which had gained fame as the site where the world land speed record was set in 2019. The opportunity to witness this historic location first-hand was nothing short of incredible. The panorama of Hakskeen Pan, with its vast expanse, created the perfect backdrop. Additionally, the journey through the village of Klein Mier was a captivating experience in itself. The little settlement provided a glimpse into the local way of life, with its friendly inhabitants. It was truly an extraordinary journey, filled with unforgettable memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #northerncape #kleinmier #hakskeenpan

So glad you stopped to listen to the nothing. Its few people who appreciate the utter peace of such beautiful places. The Hakskeenpan is awesome. That land speed record, i would have thought hed be airborn at that speed! Wow! The drone view is stunning. Yes I was wondering where the mier fitted into the picture. What a lovely story. I dont see many jojo tanks around, I would have thought when it did rain the water should be saved. Thanks for showing us Kleinmier.

We can never get enough of the sound of silence, it's awesome and especially in such a place as desolate as this. It somehow sounds even louder there, if that makes sense! It was great to see Hakskeenpan and to imagine the Bloodhound hurtling down that track at 1010km/h! That still blows my mind! 😳🏎️ Those rainwater tanks aren't cheap and I don't think many folks out there can afford them. They're so innovative though, so I'm sure they make their own plans to catch rainwater. 🚙🌧️

That guest house on 55 seconds of the video was my uncles, husband of my departed mothers sister, empire in the Desert. I spent many June holidays there, carting surplus karakul sheep on a Ford F100 to Askham to be processed before 48 hours when their wool started to straighten out, i was 14 to 16 years old, driving in a loaded F100 on gravel roads at 140km/hour..... Fantastic times to be alive....

The Kwiddie certainly had a field day with all the surfaces and he mastered all of them just beautifully, as always! 🚙😍 I also hope that the shopowner of the shop next to the main road in Klein Mier will once again experience a revival in her business and that many customers will support her. She had such dreams and plans for her business and she deserves that they come true! Not too long to wait until we reach our next destination! 😁🏜️

Hi guys the municipality is bigger than the Free state where you can hear the sound of silence great how the drone can see for miles your car looked like a little speck love the history about the scouts so now I understand why it's called Grootmeir .Still trying to get my head round the speed 1010 km per hour. Sad about the little shop but you never know things may improve especially since you have shown it .the shop was a comfort to travellers and the Coton bushes crazy. This area must be so hard to live in but people are just getting on with it cheerfully it always amazes me how these places can have a school and community centre and as Sonia said you can get phone signal a very interesting and quiet place great video cheerio till the next one

I really enjoyed flying the drone at Hakskeenpan, it was great to see the footage of the vast, dry expanse of the pan! I couldn't even fathom the municipality being larger than one whole other province, that is wild! 😳🌍 I also hope the shopowner will get more customers in the near future so that she can expand her business like it is her dream to do. That will be awesome! I'm right with you being amazed at how these folks can eek out a living in such a harsh environment. They really deserve so much respect for that! 👌🏻

Indeed. I was also rather surprised and saddened that COVID had an impact on a business in a remote area such as this. Hopefully business picks up for this shopowner in the near future! The landscape is something else in this area, so vast and so dry! It was an incredible visit which we won't soon forget. 🚙🏜️

I'm glad you enjoyed both Miere! 😍🐜 I woud've loved to have been around 200 or so years ago when there were still few people around and explored then. I can just imagine the teeming wildlife everywhere and the vegetation growing wildly without humans cutting it back or down. That sounds like a dream come true to me! 🤩 I'm glad you enjoy exploring with the two of us, we always love having you on board as we visit another new and interesting place! 🚙😁

Hi you two. Thank you for this very interesting trip! Your chat in the car is really informative. Of course your drone footage again made my day. The Hakskeen Pan is unbelievable. What a spectacular view! Can I ask how fast you managed to have your car going on that flat road on the side of the pan? The sudden appearance of the coffee shop on the side of the road was quite a surprise. No cuppas? The cotton still on the plant was also something I have never seen before. This is another settlement with people doing what is needed with the little they have. Hats off to them! They are real South Africans. I'll be waiting on the roadside with a LARGE water bottle for the next trip. Keep safe!

I'm glad you found the info interesting, there was quite a bit to share here! We never exceed 100km in the Kwiddie, but here I don't think I even reached 80! 🚙😁 The shopowner had sadly closed down the side of her business where she served cuppas since it wasn't viable anymore, which is sad. I hope she gets more customers in the coming months to make it profitable once more. I take it the water bottle is ready for tomorrow! 💧👌🏻

Thanks for the info! 🏎️ I read on the Bloodhound Education website that 'the shale bed was breaking up underneath the playa surface and would cause us a lot of problems.' That sadly put an end to Verneukpan as an option for the land speed record. 🤷‍♂️
