Before television, people came to movie theatres to watch the news. British Pathé was at the forefront of cinematic journalism, blending information with entertainment to popular effect. Over the course of a century, it documented everything from major armed conflicts and seismic political crises to the curious hobbies and eccentric lives of ordinary people. If it happened, British Pathé filmed it.
Now considered to be the finest newsreel archive in the world, British Pathé is a treasure trove of 85,000 films unrivalled in their historical and cultural significance.

They said he'd go by Alexander, but he's always been Willem-Alexander.

It seems to be because a hyphenated name wasn't allowed in Utrecht. So although the city broke its own rules when his birth was registered, it was said - for the sake of formality - that he would be known as Williem). But years later, when he became king, he chose to ignore the rule, as his parents had done.

Chris Goddard he is called willem because every dutch king before him was and his name is willem-alexander

The family calls him Alexander or Alex. Willem-Alexander is his official name

He has been known to enter sporting competitions as Alex van Buren, or W.A. van Buren. The surname is one of his obscure titles. I don't know if he is related to U.S. president Martin van Buren.

The princesses of the Netherlands, with the exception of Princess Irene, deserved and should have arranged suitable royal marriages with princes. Princess Margrieth for example, could have married King Harald V, would have been much better suited to preserve European monarchical traditions.

They married for love, and that's how it should be. Besides wich, if Princess Margreit had marrid King Harald we wouldnt have the gorgeous Prince Maurits.

about ww2 willamina she wanne to stay but she basicly got kidnapt by the goverment in to exel to engeland on may 14th 1940 german troops laned in ipperburg near the hage with the order to take the gouverment and head of state prisoner her daughter and son in law were by that time moved by the army to engeland and picked up by a britshe warship the queen wanted to stay with her people to the last minut but atlessed she fleed to london were she stayed till july of 1945
