Alonzo is basically establishing himself as a dominant superior; Alonzo is manipulating Jake from the start. This is manipulation 101: it's the same kind of good-cop bad-cop tactics that an officer will use while interrogating suspects. First the abuser establishes a kind demeanor towards the victim, making the victim feel confident. Then the abuser makes the victim uncomfortable by displaying an escalating irritation with the victim's usually harmless behavior. The victim has experienced how kind the abuser can be, and they've become accustomed to that feeling, so when it's taken away from them, it feels like they've lost respect, and they keep seeking to get that approval back, immediately putting the abuser in the dominant position. It's actually also what Terence Fletcher does to Andrew Neiman in Whiplash. Alonzo offers Jake free food, to let Jake get a sense of how nicely Alonzo can treat him. Then by the end, Alonzo makes Jake pay the bill to send a signal to Jake that he's disappointed, and the message is that if you disappoint Alonzo, he mistreats you. Jake is being trained to obey Alonzo like an animal is trained to obey its owner. It's the same behavioralist training methods, except in one case, the reward is animal treats, and in the other case, the reward is approval. I guess that's one more reason why this movie is aptly titled Training Day. In the screenplay for Training Day, it was initially planned for Alonzo to pay the bill. Making Jake pay the bill is literally something Denzel Washington must have ad-libbed and Antoine Fuqua was smart enough to let him call the shots on the character for this scene.

Jake only allowed himself to be exploited because he wanted to be part of Alonzo's task force. Then he met them and realized they were far worse than those they were going after. The alternate ending of TD is much better, where the 3 wisemen stalk Jake home and he basically tells them to "fuchk off" because they want to know what he is going to do next and he plans on turning in the stolen drug money from Roger as evidence.

@dwl3006 Жыл бұрын
@@brophpieceWell first of all, I am not soliciting inspiration, I am soliciting where you obtain scripts. Secondly, you are a hater. Nobody in history achieved anything great by listening to petty voices like yours that are really a projection of your own limitations and inferiority complex than a description of anyone else's. Thirdly, why don't you tell it to the other guy who asked for the same exact thing? He is a bastion of originality and creativity? Fourthly, if you knew anything about history, all of the great playwrights and screen writers start by studying previous generation's of scripts. For example Shakespeare studied Aeschylus, Euripides, Sophocles, and so forth. By your cracked logic Shakespeare's Hamlet was a regurgitation of Sophocle's Oedipus or Ajax. Lastly, if what I did was done before, I wouldn't be doing it. Not as if that stopped the current generation of screenwriters from doing well- all they do is regurgitate other plots with no additional content or value. I bet you enjoyed garbage like John Wick. Why bother? Well, now to prove haters like you wrong. Congratulations on being my first hater, now I won't die without proving you wrong.

Ethan still has on his hoodie with empty cup of coffee by him. His back is facing the main door. So he is at the mercy of Denzel and has no power in this environment. Speaking of the main door Quality Cafe is written on both sides of the window. Except on the right window it has 'breakfast' listed on the window. Denzel ate breakfast already. However, it is Ethan that pays the bill and he didn't even eat anything.

You can tell a lot of this breakfast scene is improvised. The actors play off of one another really well in this scene.

Incredible movie... I always wanted to believe "Brooklyn's Finest" was the follow up to Training Day. They should have lined it up that way. Where Jake decides to see things Alonzo's way after getting in to deep undercover.

Not just Denzel, both of them were brilliant actors. Matter of fact, in this scene, the rookie cop impersonator is harder to pull off

"It was a real quiet night" "BOOM" 1000% accurate. I remember being on ECP guard my first tour, bored to death and just happened to notice there was NO local nationals on ECP road. NONE. About a split second later a PKM opened up on us, I about shit my pants. We all opened up, I was on the .M2 .50. Over in seconds. It happens like that, nothing, nothing, nothing, then BOOM!!!!

I just realized that Alonzo mimicked a shotgun going off and it scared Jake and then later on they shoot Roger with one..... Funny how you find little things years after watching a movie
@drkevorkian36686 жыл бұрын
Andre Bradbury I think your reaching there a little bit matey
@_drebeatsyou6 жыл бұрын
Dr kevorkian nah I don’t think I’am lol I mean Alonzo proved to be one step ahead of everyone in this movie. The only time he doesn’t outsmart someone is whenever Jake takes the money at the end. But the shotgun thing? I cannot allow myself to say it’s a coincidence when Alonzo even says “I’ve been planning it all week son!” So he knew exactly what he was doing when he made that small reference there. Seriously go back and see how many little things you can find, it’s crazy
@ChickenGriller776 жыл бұрын
think you're reaching... the shotgun mimic was a intro to Alonzo as a character
@_drebeatsyou6 жыл бұрын
psychoclownboy at least someone else sees my ENTIRE point. These people say I’m reaching? Yet all these little things are picked up on. That’s what I’ve been trying to say this whole time tho, Alonzo was smart from the jump and like I said the only thing he didn’t know was gonna happen was Jake randomly saving a girl from gettin raped/killed from 2 crack heads who turned out to be Smileys cousin. That there saved Jake because he was able to walk away and take Alonzo’s money.

I hate when ppl try to put lil bullshit in a book or movie up like it was a precursor. Look an ant died. Omg.. someone is gonna die later in life. Surprise, everyone dies.
