This new model is part of DeWalt's "Perform & Protect" line, and as such is designed with features to protect the user from vibration from the unit and from the dust produced when sanding. The motor includes a counterbalance which reduces vibration as noted by Dan, it's a lot smoother in operation than the previous DeWalt model, and there is a rubber boot, or skirt, between the sander body and the orbiting base the sanding discs attach to, which helps to reduce airborne dust.... If used with a shopvac instead of just the collection bag, there is very little dust left behind. Nice review guys (Sorry about the iPad Dan) Keep up the great work TIA !

Was hoping for a more indept review. Why is it important that there is a variable speed? Does it makes a difference? What would you sand at 8000 opm vs sanding at 12000. Looking to purchase one for $100 vs the 2.5amps black and decker where as this one is 3amps. Does the .5 amps makes a difference? My application is to do the deck for my wife then use it to sand down my car for repaint with a 600 and or wet sand with a 2000/3000 on my other beater for practice.

Like it...I own the older version of this sander and I spoiled myself last year and bought a Festool ETS125EQ and it is the best sander I've used for finish work...the IPad falling was a painful thing to witness Dan I hope there was no other damage other than the dented corner, but that's bad enough...😕

I still have my sander from the early 90s. It's one of those tools that I've always promised to upgrade, but never had. And it's one of the few tools that I'll still believe isn't completely necessary to be cordless. That Dewalt sander is nice though, especially for two pounds.

I love the dewalt sander. I have the older version and my only gripe is that dewalts vacuum doesn't lock on it. Looks like they redesigned it to lock on it better.

The guys on the forum like this guy too Eric. Looks like a well thought out sander. Curious what tech they used for the anti vibration. I've got the Bosch RO65VCL and that thing is right up there with my two Festool sanders. I wouldn't mind having another sander, God knows like routers, sanders you can never have enough of!

You say this sander is your favorit alongside Bosch. What bosch are you thinking of? This Dewalt is an inexpsensive one as I can see. I have been looking at the Bosch GEX 125-150 because I need one with great dusthandeling and low vibration. How would you compare this two against each other? Is Bosch worth the premium price?

Its a great sander. I bought 2 sanders and the dewalt is great for the larger surfaces. I wish they had a sander that that was a detail sander because thats what I am using as well which is made by skil and skil sanders just leaves way to much debris. If there is a detail sander by dewalt let me know. I am new to this sanding game and its fun. Dewalt

I saw that you grabbed the Ridgid sander. I looked at that one as well. A couple of things I didn't like about it is that it was taller and as I would hold it in my hand, it felt like it was sort of tipsy and wanted to list over easier. I didn't feel like it was as well-balanced as the DeWalt or the Hercules I looked at. The other thing I didn't like was that the on/off buttons are flush-mounted on the housing which made it kind of difficult to press in. I don't have big fingers, but using it with gloves would make it even harder to press. I can imagine someone with thicker fingers would have even more of a difficult time pressing them than I. I went with the DeWalt and thought it had better balance than the Ridgid and it felt more well-balanced. The variable speed dial is also smoother than the Ridgid which felt tighter and less easier to spin.

Dewalt is always a good choice if you need it to feel good in you hands! Cordless sanders are for girls and until the technology catches up they will always take the back seat to corded sanders when it comes down to sanding! Nice review just enough details without being boring.

I have a made in the USA Porter Cable random orbit palm sander I just can't kill or get rid of. The only thing that sucks with it is the dust collector likes to pop off all the time. If I did more wood working I would splurge on a dust extractor and the best sander that does dust collection that's affordable. I wish I could afford Festool!! I did splurge on the cheap Fein 4 speed drill from Tool Nut though. 169 bucks was a no brainier for me.

I have tons of Dewalt and love them. However, I've had my dial on my sander break multiple times. I'd be very interested to know how durable the variable speed dial is. Does it break from medium pressure applied? My other tools haven't had this issue, but the dial on the older Dewalts sucks. I'd be interested to see if yours breaks. Also. Hey fellas.....new to your channel but became a quick fan...always good stuff. I am weighing out which sander to go with and am leaning to the DeWalt. I was also looking at the Rockwell Vibra-Free. I ended up with the Milwaukee, but this would have been in my sights had it been out when I was shopping. The only thing I disliked about the previous DeWilt model was the wonky dust port and the reason why I didn't buy it. That being said, these companies need to stop f-ing around with proprietary attachments and stick to standard shop vac sizes.

Always the cost of the sand paper that keeps me with the cheap old school square pad. Get 20 sheets of sand paper for 1-2 bucks at harbor freight, that cut-up , equals almost 100 cut pieces. Would love 2 see vid on how long those cheap pieces last versus the Velcro disc these use.
