My family was overjoyed to be at the stadium to celebrate Doc. Steve Gelbs is an absolute treasure for the Mets and NY sports. NY beat writers should try to emulate his thoughtfulness and intelligence.

"If you're down it doesn't mean you're down and out!" Although disappointed often times by Dwight no ever ever gave up on him. I can already anticipate the moment when Darryl Strawberry shares a hug with Dwight in front of a packed house!

He was so good ...the first few years of his career the Mets attendance at home would be elevated anywhere from 15 to 20 thousand more fans in the stands... I would watch Springsteen's Glory Days video over and over just to get a gimpse of the two shots of Doc on the mound ...I really miss those days

This man was the best pitcher in baseball for 3 years! Just a phenom! The amount of pitches he threw in a season would never be allowed in today’s game! Wasn’t all the substance abuse - he pitched full games! That took a toll! One of my favorite players of all time!

Keith Hernandez had used cocaine. He , in my opinion didn't offer any advice. I despise Keith for his Lack of Leadership, especially as a coke -head that he was. Dwight on the team with two coke heads like Keith and Jerry Martin. Keith was getting coke thru the food vendor for the Pittsburgh Pirates from Dave Parker. If only KEITH was a man.
