In wake of the Nintendo Switch (NX) and Mario reveal, we take a look at some facts, secrets, and history of Mario's Princess Peach. Princess Peach Toadstool was originally created by Shigeru Miyamoto, and later redesigned by Yoichi Kotabe. Although Peach hasn't had much of an impact on the series' gameplay, she's appeared in more video games than any other female character in history, nearing 100 titles.

I’ll be totally honest and say Super Princess Peach was one of my favorite DS games. It was just interesting. It was fun and new and different and just a nice twist. I loved the mechanics. For me, the most memorable thing were the rooms that had great giant face that would look every now and then and if you weren’t in the right position he’d send you back to the start of that room. It was just interesting

Princess Peach is definitely one of the most underrated characters in video games. It'd be so nice if we got a sequel to Super Princess Peach. That game was ahead of its time, I think. And really, there's no way it's any "simpler" than New Super Mario Bros. At least Peach's vibes manipulated the environment.

Princess Peach has had quite a few games where she's done stuff. Not counting all the sports and racing games (and only partially counting the party games that had a story,) we have Super Princess Peach, Super Mario RPG, the 3D Mario World game, some of the Paper Mario's where you get to play her and sneak around, and Super Mario 2. That's just the ones I know of where you get to play as her. I mean, I get that she's a damsel more often than not, but she's a well rounded character with quite a few heroic moments. Plus the whole "ruler of a kingdom" thing. I used to brainstorm a Mario themed turn based strategy game where you play as her going to war with the Koopa army.

Wow, I didn't know that Nintendo thinks of Peach as a image of strength... That's really interesting. Makes sense. She has been shown doing lots of dangerous things in order to help when needed, throughout many games. She is not the weak girl most people think. She can be girly and delicate and sweetness incarnate, but when things get serious is when she can show her true power, the power of white magic. Not to say in the spin off titles she is quite a force to be reckoned with! Come on Nintendo. If you really think of Peach as an image of strength, make a game where she really shows it. And no, not Super Princess Peach. Something much more epic, in which she is really put to the test.

I think Super Paper Mario (as well as PM64 and TTYD to a slightly lesser extent) is where she really shines. She immediately wants to join Mario's quest, even takes it for granted to aid him and refuses Merlon's advice to stay with him in Flipside. Contrary to that, I think she's portrayed rather badly in the Mario & Luigi-Games (another series I love to pieces), where she practically does nothing at all. I also like the slightly flirty attitude she has in the Smash Bros. games (just remember the provocative "Ohh, did I wiiiin?"), it shows that she is a character that's not all helpless and quiet.

I'm all for another Peach game. In a world where female protagonists are becoming more prominent and popular (Ie. MLP, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, ect), Nintendo should think about making such, but not make it too aimed at the female demographic so that both genders can appreciate it. But I think we shall have to wait, since Nintendo has to rebuild themselves with the Nintendo Switch and it's gonna take much more time.

I replayed super princess peach just a few months ago and it's still just as fun as when it first came out. If you go for a more completion route it will entertain people that want a slight challenge, just playing to get to the end entertains very casual crowds. (Kinda like yoshis island). A super princess peach 3D would be so tight. Just one change: no blowing on the mic mini game. That literally took my breath away (but not in a good way)

Peach would've been a perfect bonus fighter in Punch-Out Wii, especially if she was bar none the toughest opponent in the game. It would have been unexpected and hilarious to have players get floored more by a dainty princess than 6+ foot mountains of muscle, and at the same time Peach would gain serious badass points. Oh, she might get beaten up and knocked out if a player is good enough? So? I can't think of a better way to communicate an "equality for women" message than having a woman participate in the same environment as men without special treatment.

Well lets be honest.. Bowser, even if silly, is a tyrant. And a princess, or royal's responsibility is her people. If Peach made a wrong move she could have the Toad's hurt or even their whole place destroyed. Maybe that's why she agrees to leave or doesn't struggle much. Because she leaves, he in return hurts no one and she knows Mario will help. Ofcourse, that's not always the case, just the way I try to reason it.

The whole image I've always gotten from Peach is that she has an absolutely terrifying amount of magical power, but doesn't use it because she's just too nice and/or oblivious. One could take that to mean she's an idiot, but really I think it's more that it's not in her nature to get too worked up over being kidnapped. I mean...How may times has it happened, and everything ends up fine in the end? Part of me thinks that Peach is just being polite and letting Mario do what he loves to do, rather than help herself. But on those rare occasions where we do get to see Peach unload her full strength...Let's put it this way, I think if she really wanted to she could get out of any situation on her own no problem.

I agree with their decision to not put Peach into Punchout but not because of her gender, because having a very cutesy underaged girl getting battered by a muscular guy would look so wrong. Someone like Samus Aran or another Nintendo female that can throw a punch would have worked better for that.

Also, There have been plenty of badass cutesy girls (look up Samantha Wright, she can kick ass) but because she isn't a fighter or someone of the sort it would probably be connected to cases of domestic abuse. I was just thinking about that, but then I realized that Samus's design is probably a bit too realistic for Punch-Out's art style. Actually, I don't think there's any notable girl characters in Nintendo's roster that could fit that slot. I guess Wendy Koopa or Dixie Kong? Hard to say, though, since neither really seem fit for boxing. Even ignoring the stylistic concerns, Samus doesn't really seem like a good fit, either, since she's more of a gunslinger relies far more on kicks and pistol whips when she does get physical. At any rate, I think it was overall a good call to not shove Peach in a game where your opponents get visibly battered. The way she's drawn just doesn't really leave much room for her being injured being comical over sad or disturbing.

1:11 I don't get why everyone is perfectly fine calling her "Peach" instead of "Toadstool", but there's got to be a massive debate whenever someone calls Dr Eggman "Eggman" instead of "Robotnik". Both were localised names, both names were used in the same game (like this video said, Mario 64 had both Toadstool and Peach, while Sonic Adventure had both Robotnik and Eggman), and then after those games both settled on the original name for all subsequent releases. So why is Peach fine but Eggman isn't?

RandomShinigami7 Because Eggman sounds like an insulting nickname, making fun of his shape. And it was first presented to us as just that. Tails used it to make fun of him in Sonic Adventure. Dr. Robotnik sounds like a real name. Peach sounds like a real name that a Princess (or any woman) might actually have. And Princess Toadstool sounds like like a title--she's the princess of the Toadstool people.

One thing that Peach and Dr. Eggman have in common (aside from them being classified as Skill-type characters in the "Mario & Sonic Olympic Games" series) is that they were named differently in the US before eventually being referred to by their Japanese names; The first game in which Princess Toadstool was referred to as Peach before "Super Mario 64" was actually the SNES game "Yoshi Story", and the first game in which Dr. Robotnik was referred to as Dr. Eggman before "Sonic Adventure" was actually the Sega Game Gear game "Sonic Drift 2".

Like I saw somewhere, Peach isn't kidnapped because she's a weak damsel in distress, Peach is kidnapped because she's the leader of the mushroom kingdom and her disappearance would cause a lot of uneasiness in the citzens. I'd say Nintendo games overall have amazing female character representation

Honestly, Peach is one of the strongest female characters overall. I mean, think about it. In universe she has _perfect_ control over her emotions, like. _Perfect,_ near Lantern levels of perfect! When Bowser shows up, she just stays calm and collected. Peach needs more respect.

Peach doesn't just need respect. She needs to be truly empowered. We're in the 21st century. Breaking up with her suitors and making an overrated, ego trip-ish one-day journey around the world where she does almost nothing but sightseeing and buying flamboyant outfits just did her more harm than good. What Peach really needs is to be given the Zelda treatment. I'd like a Peach who can really show that she's strong-willed and brave, and not one who pretends to do so through a vain, obnoxious little world tour. Please, Nintendo, give Peach another chance to be GENUINELY strong.

I appreciate that Nintendo see's Peach as a strong female who doesn't see Mario as her protector. But it that kind of falls flat when the main imagine of Peach in the games is someone who gets constantly kidnapped and waits for Mario to free her. Even Super Princess Peach's attempt to make her more independent backfired since the powers in that game are based off her emotions going out of control. I think the only time we see her being a strong female, assuming you don't count sports and party games, is the RPG's, and 3D Worlds.

shadowspider9 The only part of that that is false is Super Princess Peach, in no way are Peach's emotions out of control, while yes, making her first game centred around emotions is iffy, Peach does not get angry, cry or anything else at random intervals, she does what she needs when she needs too. Peach is the only one in the game who is fully in control of her emotions.

Princess Peach is underrated in my opinion. On TheTopTens she is heavily criticized for no reason or for exaggerated reasons. They call her bossy when she isn't at all, and call her a bad person for "purposely" leaving Mario in Mario Odyssey. Peach is one of the sweetest characters in the franchise.

I have enjoyed playing Super Princess Peach, so it could've been nice if Nintendo made the sequel of that game. I just still can't figure out what the hell is that umbrella with an unknown backstory. Also it could be interesting to add in Daisy and Rosalina as selectable players too. The princesses need to shine in action again rather letting Disney take over everything.

...Super Princess Peach might have been intended as empowering to the character but it came out as one giant PMS joke. Not to mention the name of her "weapon" makes it sound like a sex toy. It's no wonder Rosalina has been so well received. No pink, no kidnapping, and she comes across as an all-powerful badass of sorts.

Oh please, all three "princess" characters have essentially the same body shape and all are "hot". But the other two seem to exist to be perpetual kidnap victims, while Rosalina is sort of a guide to your story and her abilities are left up to the imagination. She SEEMS powerful. I never said Rosalina was "empowering", I said that the intention of doing that to peach with her game failed spectacularly in every sense of the word.

Positively Dreadful Both have very different physiques to their counterparts. And, as the guy said, you'd have to now add farts to Wario's character, as it's his thing now. (Plus he has a completely different set of powerups, and different moves, like bashing things.)

I honestly wouldn't mind if they were more or less palette swaps instead of Random Toads #1 and #2 Personally I'd much rather a game built around using all four with unique abilities, but at this point, palette swaps seems far more likely.
