Actress Olivia Wilde recently tweeted her scorn for subway riders who won’t give up their seats for a pregnant woman. Now NBC’s Keir Simmons and mom-to-be Dylan Dreyer hit the streets of New York to see how busy Americans react when faced with a pregnant woman in need.

The whole debate started because some pampered hollywood actress got sore because some guy didn't want to give up their seat for her. The same woman who wants abortion to be legal even late term abortions. The same woman who says its a human right to decide when she wants a baby. The same woman who claims to love babies. The same woman who is a loud and proud feminist. I love me a good joke.

This is a woman who would never ever talk to me on a normal day. This is a woman who wouldn't even look in my direction. Yet, when she needs help, I'm shamed if I don't drop what I'm doing and give it? And what happens once the help is received? If I'm lucky, I'll get a thank you before once again being forever ignored by the woman. No, women today have forfeited all chivalry privileges. If we're not friends, we're not going to interact. That's the world in which we now live. Case in point: Has anyone heard of the man who pulled over, repaired a woman's broken down car, and then had a sexual harassment and stalking charge called in to the police once she got home safe and sound? Fortunately, security cameras proved the man's innocence and kept him out of jail. Yes, this happened a few months ago.

It's sad that some women are like that, but not all. I remember when my car broke down in the middle of a small, but busy road. I had no idea what to do, but a few men jumped out their car and helped me. Towed me to a safe place (one guy even steered my car for me, because I was nervous about the tow line). They made sure I had someone I could contact (I had a breakdown service line) and they went on their way. I was extremely greatful, they really did save me in that situation. I'd have been helpless. I definitely wouldn't recommend any man to tow a woman to her house; either to a mechanics or another safe area so she can contact someone; just so the man is kept safe. I'd also make sure you had someone else with you, so there is a witness. Due to the traffic behind me, there were plenty of witnesses. The men were kept safe and so was I.

Gena Razie Get Uber or grab, if can't afford, they probably cannot afford to have children too. Please do not give birth, if you cannot afford it. When a child is born in a family that cannot properly provide him/her of what that is needed, that's where a sad story begins. Not having a proper home, not well fed, not given proper education and etc. Alot of these poor souls will end up on the streets, gangs, crime and etc. And more problems are created. Don't make a personal problem become a social problem. Everyone is responsible for themselves and not on others, tho responsibility can be partially extend to family members, but nothing more beyond relative.

Pregnant woman here, obviously you don't have to give up a seat and that's fine, but lemme help you understand better. Pregnant women go through a lot of harsh and painful symptoms and sometimes you need to sit down and rewind yourself so you can get ready to keep going. Towards late pregnancy is when things get tricky, pregnant women who are close to their due date can't stand as long, it take a lot of energy to grow another human being inside of you.

@@Thanh-kn5dy I felt this way with my first pregnancy. But, currently pregnant again and this pregnancy seems to be causing me problems. I'm fine if I'm moving or sat down, but if I'm standing for a long period of time I get extremely dizzy and then I faint. A problem I keep going to the doctors about, and they just tell me it's because I'm anaemic. So, nothing I can do unless that gets sorted. Anyway, whilst I do not in any shape or form want people to give up their seat for me, I also don't want to faceplant the floor. I'd probably just sit in the middle of aisle tbh 😆 my point is, not every pregnancy is the same. And sometimes giving your seat helps a lot.

While i won't deny that depending on the time of pregnancy, standing for long times can be difficult, you also don't understand what other people go through. A pregnant lady doesn't go out much, yes? What would you think if she forced a man who works 12 hours everyday coming back home out of his seat? Not so fair anymore right? The man NEEDS to work to live, hes doing something he must do like it or not. The woman isn't pregnant because she needs to. It was her choice to settle down a family when her man can't even give her proper transport. So why should the tired, hard working man bother? I will never understand what being pregnant feels like, and youll never understand what having to use public transport while working at a factory 12 hours feels like.

I remember standing in a long queue for the toilet and an elderly woman walked past everyone without a word, and went straight into the toilet. Everyone in the queue just laughed about it, but didn't stop her. She could have been seconds away from wetting herself, and empathy costs nothing. Because she wasn't confronted, she didn't go through the embarrassment of having to explain her situation to everyone. Also, me and my partner gave up our table in a restaurant, because a man in a wheelchair had nowhere else to go. Him and his wife were very greatful and we got a table elsewhere. Funnily enough, I was pregnant at the time as well 😆. I see a lot of comments saying they wouldn't give up their seat. I find that kind of sad; doesn't hurt to help others and you feel good about it as well. Probably makes that person day. Not to mention, we could all be in those vulnerable positions one day.

if you read closely or ask people about why, you will notice most wouldn't do it because its not mandatory. And to mandate to have chivalry isn't equal. If you reply il give you an inside of why a woman shouldn't be entitled to a normal seat

@@agustinnarvaez5251 I'm honestly not interested in what you have to say, tbh. As I said; it doesn't hurt to help the less abled and I'll always stand by that sentiment. I'm currently pregnant and have been diagnosed with anaemia. If I stand for too long, I start to get dizzy and faint. Didn't have this problem with my first pregnancy, but having some give up a seat for me definitely helps my situation. I wouldn't like to faint and fall on my pregnant belly and cause damage to my unborn child. Luckily, I don't use public transport, so will never be in that situation. I'll always, ALWAYS help people if it's something as simple as giving up a seat. It really isn't taking much away from you.

@@nothanks1239 Congrats for both of your pregnancies. I, as an arquitecture student, must carry over 10 kilos worth of equipment 8 or 12 hours, depending if that day i have double schedule, including 2 hours of public transport back and forth from the uni, saturdays included. Unlike you i must do it for years, not months. So i guarantee you i come out way more tired than you, a preggo that doesn't go out much (if you actually listen to what your doctor recommends). If you don't want to hear me thats fine, that doesn't make your mindset the right one. And its fun how you say its not taking away much from me, but when its the preggo then she NEEEEEDS the seat. Id be glad to carry the added weight of your baby in exchange to put on top of you a backpack, a wooden model oh a structure in your right hand and a briefcase with a drawing dashboard and blueprints in the other one. Just as i don't know what pregnancy feels like, you don't know other peoples lives. So don't assume it "costs nothing to us". I assure you i come back home way more tired than you.

Weird how indignant girls are about this... shouldn't your man be with you, giving up his seat? You're supposedly so fragile, yet you're traveling alone, on public transport. If you can't afford an Uber, you can't afford a child. It's not up to society to help you have a baby, because your own support system is so weak. These are probably the same women that expect society to foot the bill for their child.

This is really interesting and I think it's primal, because it's like why would a man give up his seat to help some other man's baby. A pregnant woman is basically worthless to any man except the father of the child, she is out of commission from mating for 9 months. So why do you expect men to be chivalrous towards you when they're guaranteed nothing in return? You want someone to sacrifice their standard of living for you? For what? To make your life better and theirs worse, just because? And who's to say a man sitting down isn't of more value to the world?
