Nice overview mate, 100% agree with you on the points about the ST. Out of the box it's a phenomenal package that'll only get better with mods, but it has very good 'manners' in terms of feel, control-ability, engine characteristics etc for a bike that can rip when it's asked.

I bought a FXDLS summer of '17. I've found your channel not long after and have been following you since. I've upgraded my bike every year in one way or another so today my bike is very different from stock but I left it at 110 and built it to ride. I bought it new with 8 miles and put 50k miles on it since. I ride year round in Colorado as long as it's not snowing. I ride in temperatures down to 15F. The first year i used heated gear, but around year two I switched to using layers as needed. Year 1 - Left the Dealer with V&H Short Shorts - Random Front Brake Lever mechanical issue where my brake light wouldn't shut off and cruise control wouldn't work cause of it. Year 2 - Burned out my clutch on a slow rider course and rebuilt with SE Parts, Had to replace my rear brake bracket which was rubbing/grinding against the rotor after a long trip. - Shift Linkage failed on a HOG Group ride. Had to use zip ties to get home. Year 3 - Lifter failed and started tapping on the stock cam, causing it to chip and metal got all up into the oil pump. Upgraded to the 585 since the cam had to be replaced anyways. Year 4 - Decided to go stage 4 110 and did the rest of the the stuff listed above. Year 5 - After riding for a year @106hp/125tq and a long 1500mile road trip, i managed to wear out every sensor. MAP, Throttle, Temperature sensors all had to be replaced. My bike aint no 124 like yours, but it aint no slouch either. I test rode the ST. Those softtails have great lean angle and fantastic usable power band. I like the shake on my FXDLS though.

That's so funny man, I've had that front brake lever issue on my FXDLS numerous times - I appreciate you listing all of this, I can relate to a lot of it - I actually ran 585s as well before I blew up the 110 motor, great cams!

I have an 2022 st and agree with everything you said about it. I wish there was a lens cover for the st headlight - it would make it easier to clean and look a little better. BTW the head light ring on the st will fall off. One st owner suggested using double sided tape to help hold the ring in place and not to rotate off. So I had to order a new one from HD. I like the lower fairing kit you have on your other bike and would buy one for my st for bad weather riding. I'm sure the lowers will become available within the next year from vendor??? The only real "I don't like" on my st is the seat is a little too low for me. I'm 5' 10" and pulling up my leg from the ground to the foot peg is not that natural of a feeling for me. I have a temp fix for that by using a seat pad to raise my butt up another 1.5" and forward 1". I plan to check through ebay for a stock seat and have it reworked to my liking with a local seat guy. I would send him my stock seat but I'll just keep that stock and have one custom to me. As far as the passenger seat - I just purchase a generic rear seat that uses suction cups to hold it off the fender. I guess I'll have to weight limit the passenger seat to 120lbs...lol I don't have many miles on mine yet but look forward to trucking the bike south this winter and doing some riding. I did buy the stereo which just came in - I'll pick that up at the end of the month from my dealer. My only real complaint with the bike is it is so new to the market that any option is 500 dollars plus. So I'm being a little careful on what I buy as the options are a real budget buster. BTW - your older hd looks killer.

Cool vid and comparison! Having owned several different types of Harley's ('18 Iron 1200, '20 FXLRS, '21 FLHX, '14 FXDL, and now a '22 FXLRST), I can definitely agree with the level of refinement and do-it-all nature of the ST and the 117 M8. The fairing, inverted front end, dual disk brembo front brakes, 13.5" rear monoshock, and heavy breather intake all compliment the bike adequately. I do heavily dislike the clamshell design and offset nature of the rear bags, but I understand why they did it. When I traded my 2014 FXDL in for the FXLRST a few months back, I immediately missed the character (raw feel + black/chrome looks) of my dyna, but I knew it was the best choice for the mixed riding that I do. I still long for owning an FXDXT (mainly for the character), but for the foreseeable future the ST should be the perfect bike. Excited to see where you'll take your ST next!

@jcatsby
@jcatsby Жыл бұрын
@@FXDLSBrooklyn The bags obviously weren't a deal breaker, but just frustrating enough to deal with for grocery runs and such when compared to top load bags. Overall, I am impressed by the ST and I've even gone as far as to say it is a "need nothing" kind of bike. Hell, even the street bob dash is growing on me. If I had a criticism it would be that it needs 6.5" pullback risers from the factory instead of the 4" straights or whatever. Random, but my bike was used (200 miles) and the PO put a Reach Two-Up Seat on it. I'm only 5'10" but I must be too tall for it because holy hell did I burn my legs last weekend in heavy traffic. The M8 117 still runs hot as hell, but even the Pan America does so it's just a continued character trait of all Harley's.

Really stoked for the fairing comparison video. I cancelled my ST order because I just wasn’t ready to make the leap. Currently ride a 2020 FXBB that’s pretty loaded which I love. Thinking of throwing mags and a FXRT fairing as my next step. The street Bob has stage 2, full legends suspension front and back, thrashin riser and bars, exhaust, etc… it’s pretty dialed. Do I drop another 5 grand to finish getting the street Bob dialed or do I start over and drop the 5 grand on a seat, bar/riser, exhaust, and suspension on an ST plus another 15k for the bike itself? (25k-my trade) Tough call To me, I feel like it’s gonna come down to how the fairing performs. Really stoked to hear your thoughts…

Is the stage 4 131 from HD considered a good Factory HD upgrade? The bike I bought has it and also the Legends suspension front and back upgrade. Has the fosgate audio system and the Vanes and Hines 2-1 with a catalyst upgrade. I'm sure I will switch that out for a HPI. Also has the saddleman step up like yours and the screaming eagle extended warranty that transfers in my name. It has other stuff too. I pick it up Tueday in another state. Makes sense for the new generation to be better operationally, but there seems to be an inherent specialness to the Dyna S. Probably because it’s the last of its line and it was only made for two years. This is a very important video, it shows how far the corporation has came in such a short time...is it a fair comparison though? Not exactly, but that's not even an issue because the corporation failed to create a long running made for TV Dyna touring bike to compare to the ST, but who's keeping score except me anyway? Yes your Dyna is modified on the extreme level and to hear you state how good the Softail is a testament and promising of things to come. I'm hoping this a level of excellence they build upon and continue building highly functional machinery. For years I have been frustrated and resentful that the company treated their developments as recreational vehicles that needed lots of modifications to be valid and functional forms of transportation, the brakes and ergonomics on past machines were mailed in at best and dangerous at worst; and yet with rudimentary changes, bikes like the Dyna become so modular that they can compete in every genre and embarrass specialized motorcycles in their own field. Is it safe to say this is better company building bikes now? I think so. Basic motorcycle physics hasn't changed, sure technology in metallurgy and computer science has but it's the mental awareness and seriousness of the desire to build the absolute best is what is different and I'm thrilled to be living and riding in such a time. I still like the Sportsteresque/MX riding position of the Dyna, it absolute feels like a mountain bike on a perfect single track on back roads and looks good, traditional even doing it, even if it kills the arthritis of old men riding them like they've watched Crusty Demons of dirt too many times in their youth. AND while I love your paint job, (I've always favored flames over everything and yours is phenomenal,) I love the traditional 70's Lowrider lettering on the ST...black and gold though...(I saw a black and gold Street Glide ST in Fort Worth back in the summer which may have helped snowball into my current ownership of said new bike) The question I still have is, can it compete with the FXDX on its playing field?
