I love the videos like this where you see Jared being goofy and friendly, but also see that he's incredibly skilled. Jared is my favorite. Hey Stephen, you're second now.

One of the things I do in church if I want an in-between crash sound -- "higher" that a hi hat for 8ths but not quite "crash" loud -- is to play on the bow of the cymbal with the tip of the stick. This allows me to still get a full "crash" out of it when needed without it being that loud the whole time. Jared didn't mention that, so I thought I'd share. :)

this is a good lesson. Simple, effective, and many people really does neglect such details. good job!

Jared or anyone there. This has came into my mind many times: You should make more content for more advanced players... There have been many videos which have inspired me to play but they have been too easy to learn... Im doing exercises constantly and improving my drumming but what I (and perhaps other drummers) need is the CHALLENGING content. And by the way! You should always include sheet music in description for really helping others to learn the content :) Keep the beat up! -Lassi K.

I have a question that I can't find the answer for. If I hit a cymbal I play the kick drum at the same time. BUT if I want to play 2 or 3 or 4 cymbals in a row ( 1 e and a 2 e and a 3 e and a 4 e and cymbal(kick) cymbal(kick) e and a 2 e and a 3....) do I always need to play the kick drum at the same time? Or just the the last cymbal hit. It would be nice to se a nice and deep beginner lesson on that

Last cymbal hit or the and a, look up crash on the and ah video should help, your right if you wanna hit the crash more than Once in a beat you'd hit the bass pedal normally and crash out most often.

Mr Falk Ok Great But you MISSED A VERY VERY IMPORTANT ITEM TO STOP BREAKING CYMBALS OR CAUSING THEM DAMAGE LIKE KEYHOLES WHICH DOESN"T AFFECT THE SOUND A LOT BUT IT DOES AFFECT THE SOUND IN THE RECORDING STUDIO. THE MOST IMPORTANT ITEM YOU NEED IT'S A MUST IS A PLASTIC CYMBAL SLEEVE WITH A NECK EXTENSION THEN PLACE THAT PLASTIC SLEEVE OVER YOUR CYMBAL STAND EXTENSION WITH THE TAPPED SCREW END YOU MAY HAVE TO SCREW IT ON. THERE ARE THOSE YOU CAN JUST PUSH ON. BUT THE BEST ONES YOU SCREW ON TWIST ON TIGHT NOW PLACE A FELT OVER SLEEVE NECK USUALLY ITS THE THICKER OF FELTS A 3/4 inch PLACE YOUR CYMBAL OVER THE EXPOSED PART OF PLASTIC OR NYLON SLEEVE NECK IT NOW SITTING ON TOP OF THE 3/4 inch FELT NEXT TAKE ANOTHER FELT THIS IS USUALLY LESS LIKE A 1/2inch PLACE IT AGAIN OVER THE EXPOSED PART OF THE NECK SLEEVE THAT IS SITTING ON TOP OF YOUR CYMBAL HERE YOU HAVE A CHOICE SOME USE A PLASTIC OR METAL WASHER TO PLACE ON TOP OF FELT THEN APPLY THE WINGNUT TO TIGHTEN BUT SOME JUST USE THE FELT ON TOP OF CYMBAL THEN APPLY THE WINGNUT AND TIGHTEN IT DOWN BUT NOT TO TIGHT IF YOU TIGHTEN IT TO MUCH YOU CHOKE THE SOUND OF CYMBAL AND IF YOU CRASH IT TO TIGHTEN CYMBAL NOT ONLY DOES THE SOUND SUCK BUT YOU CAN DAMAGE THE CYMBAL BY CAUSING A CRACK OR BREAKING THE CYMBAL ALTOGETHER. ITS BEST TO LEAVE THE CYMBAL LOOSE ENOUGH TO BREATHE FREELY NOW MOST GOOD CYMBAL STANDS ONLY PUT IN SO MANY GROOVES TO TIGHTEN TO AND IT STOPS. THIS MEANS THOSE TYPES ARE BEST BECAUSE YOU CAN TIGHTEN YOUR CYMBAL TIGHT YET IT LEAVES ENOUGH SPACE FOR YOUR CYMBAL TO BREATH AND NOT WORRY ABOUT YOUR WINGNUT FLYING OFF BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T TIGHTEN IT ENOUGH THATS RARE BUT IT HAPPENS SO I'VE GIVEN YOU MY 63 YEARS OF CYMBAL SET UP KNOWLEDGE I BELIEVE ITS SPOT ON.

agreed, a lot of the stuff here is very basic. Also there is a lot of unnecessary talking that make videos longer than needed. Just go back to their 2007 videos and you realize how much more content you were getting out of each lesson.

I hope that his performance and cymbal playing at the beginning was a joke. I didn't hear anyone mention that. But his dynamics at the intro was quite bad.

I'm sorry, but slicing (hitting the cymbal at an angle) creates bad technique habits, and actually hurts your wrists... This is one thing I disagree with Jared about, but everything else is pretty much spot on.
