Intrinsically, a simplistic piece of jewellery; albeit, in this 'Vid' one can see quite clearly, the complexity of each stage the Goldsmith must take. A superb lil' Bracelet that encompasses the hidden talent & progression of finesse of this Historical style:~a well~known piece of Jewellery that has stood the test of time! Thanx for sharing.☺️Rosie 🦓 (Stay 🦋 Safe ALL)

The time a goldsmith puts into his work is underestimated on a daily basis. As well as the time it takes to develop the skills needed to begin with. It's sadly something most craftsman have to deal with because so much is based on money nowadays.

Drawing silver wire through the plate is not as simple as it appears. It requires proper annealing of the wire, getting it started properly and liberal use of wintergreen oil to make it slide smoothly. I've had lots of drawn silver wire crack. Might be easier to buy the silver wire in the diameter you need. Also wire mills are expensive.

BTW: You do not need to solder. Just wrap the ends. You do not need to have rolling tool, you can use premade wire and just hammer it together. You do not need drill. Polish can be made by hand.

Wouldn't the metal be softer longer if you didn't quench/temper it???
@XPtroper3 жыл бұрын
The metal is not tempered, this is usually only a process used on an iron alloy. The quench is necessary to remove as much energy from the metal as possible so the internal structure stops moving. If you don't quench, the metal will harden again.
@AKAxeMan2 жыл бұрын
It looked more like he was annealing it to remove any tension in the metal after moving it in order to keep it pliable.

What do you use to whiten the silver after the fire?

The white color is an effect from the pickle solution, it rubs off.

That white color is pure silver left after the pickle desolves the copper in the alloy. For a pickle there are several options, although sulfuric acid/vitriol is usually the working agent in the solution. The most used kristal form is vitrex powder, which is desolved in water to create the solution. Sodium-aluminium-sulphate can be used to create a toxic fumeless solution, but it works slower. The solution is colorless when you make it, when is get's saitisfied with copper, it turns green.
