Nice video! It would be sweet to see a similar thing with some different types of dynos on different walls (rather than just a jug haul same angle distance comp). A little slab run type of thing or flag catch could be cool, some paddles or more unique catching positions for overhang, jumping off of suboptimal feet or hands, stab-catches, and much more could get a little more interesting and maybe be a better comparison (I imagine Louis would do a bit better on the slaby technical body awareness type of dynos keeping high tension whereas Jules might accel in the more overhung power-heavy ones and I think it could make for a cool video! Obviously takes a lot more effort on setting up and gym space and stuff, so obviously understand if it's not practical to do so, but it would be very interesting! Thanks for the great content as usual

Great content guys! I’ve never thought my dynamic movements would be a limiting factor for me, until I found my latest project, so this has come at a great time for some motivation. I wonder if there is a crash mat you could borrow if you do a repeat session?! Some of those landings looked troublesome.

would be awesome if u do the same thing with perfect conditions (naked wall, big jugs,maybe good footholds for step-ups,...) i'd like to see what u both are able to reach. Also i think you could beat the world record by far with a nice step-up dyno. Is a double-dyno also allowed for the world record? :D :D

Unfortunately hard to organise for a whole wall just for it! And the world record is a double dyno as Louis and Jules were doing releasing both arms and legs for the move!

Great video, i have a question concerning dynos for relative beginners. I'm 29 and have been bouldering for around 8 months now consistently (2 to sometimes 3 times a week). And there have been some dynos at my local gym. However, after i try them i sometimes get a sharp pain in the lower biceps tendon region which leads to me having to stop the session or at least go to easier less quick and high stress moves. The pain usually doesn't stay long after the session though. What would you recommend, staying off the dynos completely until the body gets more used to the stress with more time, or just keep at it, stopping as soon as it starts getting painful.

We definitely would suggest taking it easy and if it is a recurring issue go and see a medical professional!

Hey, I think it might be if you keep your biceps under tension before jumping, try keep you arms straight until the very last moment if you can, might help

it could be that your catching it with a straight arm and kind of yanking on the hold if that makes sense. my very non professional advice would be to do deadpoints and make sure theres no pain there and that your comfortable with them and then try deadpoints but as you get the handhold, you take your feet off. then try going up to small dynos!

Hi! Relatively new to climbing here and rarely ever try climbs that require dynos. I feel very held back by my reach and height (152cm), and I feel learning how to dyno can help me send more. Any tips or exercises for beginners trying to do dynos? I've heard many times that power has to come from my legs, but my mind can't seem to make my legs push off when it's actually time to explode as it defaults to just reaching with my arms 😅

Hey camilla, a cool thing you can try to practice is just jump off some footholds as hard as you can, and try touch the wall as high as you can. I you just focus on jumping (same as you would off the floor) it will help your brain connect a dyno with pushing hard and jumping through your legs😁 if you have other question you can pm me on insta, always happy to help😊

I'm very bad at dynos so don't bear with me in this but the advice that helped me a lot is that you should aim to overshoot the hold (higher hold maybe) because our psychology would tend us to undershoot (do a more economical and safer move if that makes any sense). Later with the experience you will get to know the expected effort

I’m also very short but quite good at dynos for my size - the tip that helps me most is don’t focus on getting your hand to the next hold, focus on getting your hips towards the hold as you jump. Then you will naturally end up higher in the air and your arm will reach the next hold a lot more easily. It’s a practice thing so keep practicing until you find techniques that work for you!

@@raxacorical5868 Oh, that’s actually really good advice! When I try to dyno, I do try to slightly overshoot - I think focusing on my hips will not only help me move farther but also guide my body’s trajectory better. Thanks!

I find that typically aiming for a further hold helps improve subconscious body positioning, but with practice aiming for the hold you’re actually going for is fine

In my experience reaching for the hold too early can limit your reach by a lot so aiming for a higher hold could definitely help

Fun fact for nostalgia’s sake, if you move a beehive between 3 ft and 3 miles away the bees get confused and won’t be able to find it. They’ll just wander forever 😅

Speaking as a coach and climber. I think this format for a dyno comp is not very fun for a diverse range of climbers. A better option may be setting a selection of jumps at all sorts of difficulties and in many styles. That being said I understand that this is not a public comp, i just wish that more public comps were not in this format.

Hey Ewan I think that's a really good consideration and maybe worth talking to the gyms that you go to which do this! I know at Harrowall when they had a dyno comp as part of a larger event and comp, it had a vast array of different heights, styles of dyno and hold types. It was brilliant fun and went down really well

@@julesastier4128 are dyno challenges always diagonal? I'd assumed they'd be vertical, but I guess the swing from diagonal becomes an extra challenge?

@@chrzzzzz they are most often diagonal because that ups the technique you need to go far and reduces the impact that a big vertical jump or height can have 😁

I’m 6 foot😁 so a lil bit above average, and in this case I think height helps a little but, but in the vast majority of case in a gym, dynos are technique based not height😊 but obs it does hurt to be tall👍

Hey, if it makes it any less scary I have years of experience falling off of dynos and I know how to bend and fold to not hurt myself😊 obviously starting with falls like that is absolutely terrifying😅
