Following the install of the Bluespark tuning box in my last video, I took the 124 Spider to a dynamometer / rolling road to see what the power increase was.
I also tried to complete a 0-62mph / 100kph run as smoothly as possible but because of the British weather, it was very difficult to get traction - when the conditions are better, I'll do the run again and get a more accurate figure for you.
If you liked the video please do subscribe and as always, thanks for watching
Tiff

Impressive. Have just watched this during the lunchtime break in racing at Oulton Park. Bet you'd enjoy a track day here.

Thanks Mark! I saw it was the club cars today, bet it's entertaining on a wet circuit!

Those are good numbers for a tuning box! Numbers aren't the end all though, and as long as the torque & hp curve are tuned efficiently, then that's all that matters 👍.

In the states we are tuning these up. 0 to 60 5.8. With the car magazines one foot rollout, it is 5.4 0-60

Nice! I'm planning to change the tuning box for a proper tune very soon - I'll post a video comparing the dyne results when I do!

@Tiff interesting video. Still happy I sold mine and went with the do it yourself ODB-2 TMC Motorsport ECU tune option. Will one day try and get a dyno run to see if it makes the claimed 205BHp figure TMC say mine is supposed to make. Are you still running on The Stock Bridgestones? You might get better runs with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S’s for wet grip. Never rated Bridgestones on any car I have had. I’m still running stock Bridgestones on my Abarth 124 and they don’t give as much confidence as if I was running on Michelin’s. I’m also considering the Alpha ROMEO 4C coil packs to replace the stock Fiat ones as they re supposed to help with top end performance. Check out Stef ABTV as he’s just fitted some updated coil packs to his.

I'm running Bridgestones through winter yes, I did a running costs video where I mentioned about the PS4's as the best option - still miffed that Pirelli don't make something in the stock Abarth size!

Hi Tiff, I have the same setup on my Abarth 124 and was surprised by how little gains actually are, as it feels much more. Was the blue spark box in position 5, sport mode engaged and 99 Ron fuel? I am adding a cold air intake soon to see the impact of that on the setup. Thanks
@TiffLangham
@TiffLangham 3 жыл бұрын
Yes to all of those, 99 octane V Power for the run. Would be interested to hear how the intake affects yours!

Update - Dynoed mine with the bluespark and got 182 on a dynojet - put an aFe power intake on (plus sport cat and enlarged cross pipe) and it made the whole setup slower! Now got a proper tune from Tork Motorsports (stage 1) and the whole setup doesn’t feel much faster than stock plus the bluespark. Will hit the Dyno post lockdown to get a comparison. Cheers

So, further update (didn’t mention that I also got the Alfa 4c coils and a gfb dv+ valve at the same time as the exhaust). I decided to do something not recommended as I was disappointed with my Tork stage 1 tune. I decided to run the blue spark tuning box on top of it , just to see what would happen, and...Holy smokes! I invested in a Dragy box and got 5.7 0-60 (just under 5.5 comparable with a vbox time) and 14.2 quarter mile. I am running the bluespark on setting 3 (on 5 it was over fuelling) and that seems to be the sweet spot of fuelling and boost. Please note that the reason why I did this is because I felt the Tork tune was running a bit lean, and I know that Tork motorsports do not manipulate boost in their tune to get their increases. So whilst it was not recommended and a risk...it was a considered risk. Can’t wait to get to the Dino post lock down to see what she makes. I figure with those numbers it must be at least 200whp. Check out the dragy leaderboard if you don’t believe me!

Dont worry, mate. In Western Germany it is the same thing. Raining since weeks. Even if it isnt raining for a little while and I open up the roof, after the next corner its going to shower again. So frustraiting to live here. As for the ECU: I am struggling if I want to do this. I only would thrust a few tuners out there and they come with a price. And I think the engine is running very rich in stock form for some reason. Cant be only for cooling, but maybe to design the exhaust pops.

Ah, European weather. It's just fuelling my ambition to move to Calabasas 😂 I hadn't thought of the pops before, but yes I agree Abarth have probably engineered them in!

On the older Fiats like the Coupe 20vt the AC automatically shut off on full throttle, don’t know about these.

You’ve taught me something there! I’ve done a bit of googling and can’t see that the 124 has an AC cutoff - not sure if that’s by dint of being an MX-5 underneath, or if it just doesn’t have it. I like the concept though!

It's mentioned that the car is running slightly rich. Will this cause any issues in the long term
@TiffLangham
@TiffLangham 3 жыл бұрын
If it's particularly bad you can get carbon deposit, but as long as you keep changing spark plugs at the annual service it shouldn't be a big problem. If I understood it correctly, it was the ECU trying to cool the car by running it rich in that specific instance; I don't believe it permanently runs that rich.

Brake horsepower? Is this not rear wheel horsepower?

As far as I understand, the Superflow dyno measures WHP and through coast-down, converts to / calculates flywheel HP. I wish it was WHP though - after driveline losses I'd be a lucky boy if it was still getting 190ish!
