8 years later and this is still the best video from changing the filter

Best instructional video ever, no BS, straight to the point and accurate. Much to be said for overcomplicated Dyson engineering... also I wish the filter was still $35!!

Thanks Phil. I would not have been able to remove the filter in my DC54 without your video. Even at that it was hard going and the re-assembly was even harder. It does not surprise me that the Dyson people in the shops did not know how to remove this filter.

Excellent video on how on to dismantle the DC54. Hardest part was the last stage where there are white clips, one either side, that I found difficult to prise open with my screw-driver. I actually needed to access the power cable/cord which was jammed and this step by step gave me access to the cable and I quickly fixed after it had got tangled inside.

Phil thanks! You made replacing the engine and back filter FUN! FYI filter now costs AU$80 31/2 years on and a replacement engine $179. Worth that just for the feeling of satisfaction at the end. Onya buddy.

This also applies to the Dyson DC39c Animal. Those hidden screws!!!! It was by accident I found this clip. Many thanks - a life saver! May I suggest you you update your Google search for other variant Dyson models where your very helpful video and 2 less frustrated men. We now have a joke "how many men does it take to change an air filter? So simple when you know how!

Hi Phil, I started to pull my dc54 apart this afternoon and got stuck: I removed the 8 screws in the bottom and did not see the 2 at the top. Thanks to you I was able to split mine apart. My filter is wrecked but the worst problem is in the motor. I stupidly vacuumed up water that had just overflowed to the floor from my coffee machine (I did not know it was in a "hard to see place"). I am hoping it's just the carbon brushes that are wrecked. I won't know until I clean it all up tomorrow. I'll give you a report on what the end result is when the job is done. Once again, thanks!

Good video mate but I think you might have missed two steps. 1) You didn't take the o ring out of the old filter and transfer it to the new one so it is probably bypassing dust into the cable rewind. 2) There is a final sponge filter in the casing that needs to be washed when you do this.

I took a shot every time he said “mouata” so I died.

Tip: make sure you clean or (preferably) replace the HEPA filter next to the motor at the same time. Could have contributed to the burnout. I must say I’m disappointed by only 7 years use of my DC54 before motor burnout. Helpful though thanks

i stripped down and cleaned the vortex bin on my channel...bloody re-assembly was a nightmare...so many pieces. Props to you for showing the other end! How much was that filter?

4:55 have to go in, however during assemblage it does not click back in. Even not with some bruut force methodes. Power cord then does not roll in. It is doable only when you have the right very long Torx 15? And lots of time on your hands. Dyson is designed for assembly but not designed to replace this filter. It is really strange how a good brand makes this every 2 or 3 year routine a 2 to 3 hours tour the force.

So... I know this is a little late... Like, really late... The two clips you popped out at 5.10 to 5.20. How the fack did you get them back in?

We pulled it apart and then Dyson wouldn’t sell us the part unless we have an electrical license.... seriously??? How did people get around this?

Filter is now $80 in 2023... i only paid $45 for my dyson 54... 2nd hand... gonna take out old filter and wash it and see what happens

Thanks for the video! But I am struggling with reassambling.. does anybody have some tips for those 2 white clips which are seen on 4:55? Taking all apart was easy but while reassambling I cannot get those white bastards on their place :/

Pity you didn't hold the camera in the correct orientation.

Why did Dyson do that that's just ridiculous they should have left it alone where they had it in the older purple vacuums it was so much easier to work on.

People think the Dyson is filter free and you'll save $$. Washing the filter is very messy and washing any filter, other than a mesh filter, will degrade it's filtering ability dramatically. Dyson has great marketing.
