Dyson SV10 V7 red light lock unlock, 2 red flashes one blue

This is an exercise to make an SV10 V7 Dyson Battery pack to fail and then recover-it from the locked status.
How to disassembly the pack is not the purpose of this video, please search.
We start with getting access to the programming pads with some paint remover.
Then use a press fit connector to insert in the pcb, it will stay there much better than holding it with your hands. I had to have my hands free.
At around 300mV difference the pack will fail with 2 red blinks and one blue. Blinking pattern may be different on the other models (32 times). Pack is also not charging anymore.
Use the standalone app, see the link below, NOT the MPLAB!
Well, connect the programmer, uncheck the Program memory ( this is critical, you will erase the chip if you forget), read the eeprom data and then modify those 2 locations.
Before you ever click write, make sure you only write in the eeprom section ( I believe some user did not pay attention and erased the chip). Look at the image of the program interface, it's clear.

Sorry to keep you waiting, I do this as a hobby and I have not worked on Dyson battery from long time. My battery still works fine until now. Please search for other publishing similar work.

Do you just happen tyo know about the 206340 battery pack (for the sv12)? It has a connector with two wires going up the stem in addition to the main power out terminals. And i assume a magnet sensor too, somewhere. Do i have to do something to / with the extra connector to make it output power?

not sure what the connector with two wires does but I cannot get it to turn on with just main power applied from an external source. there's no magnetic sensor (sv12).

The red light came on when the trigger was pressed incorrectly during the spot operation after the battery replacement operation.

Thank you for the video you shared. After this procedure is unlocked and a new 18650 battery is replaced, will the same lock issue still occur? Thank you!

If the replaced battery ( one only ) it's not the same as the rest, it may occur. I suggest replace all 5 cells, the same capacity. The pack has no balancing implemented. Normally a one low cell can be still used, just balance the pack and use-it. Weak cell will recover partially.

@@secondlife1970 Thanks for your reply, I learned a lot. I'll explain my handler first to see where the error is. 1. I went to buy a middle-aged dyson v6 battery. It can be charged normally. Press the button on the battery to display a blue light, but the recharge efficiency is not good. 2. Disassemble the battery box and connect the balance charger to several nodes to charge, fully charge the battery, and then start to balance the voltage to 3.9V for every 6 18650 battery. The battery box button should be fixed first to prevent it from being triggered. 3. In addition, connect 6 brand new 18650 batteries (SONY VTC5A 2600mah) in series, and the balance voltage is 3.9v for each battery. 4. Disconnect the 18650 on the balanced v6 battery from the protection board and replace it with a brand new 18650 battery. Connect all contacts on the protection board. 5. Double-check that each battery is the same voltage as the old battery that was replaced. Press the button on the battery. The protection board can work normally by turning on the blue light first and then the green light. 6. After the battery box cover is installed, use the charger to fully charge the battery, and the process is normal. 7. Here comes the problem. When I plug in the vacuum cleaner to test it, the red light turns on and it doesn't turn at all. May I ask you to know which program I did wrong? That's why I can't move, please tell me.

@@bradsuen4901 I believe you have to charge-it first with the original charger to enable the pack to run, normally your problem should not happen if the pack is unlocked. If put to charge the pack is normally charging ( blue light ) then there is no problem. Try that. Mine I never had any issue after unlock, I did not check the cells balance but I do not care since I can always unlock the red light.

Lot of thanks for this interesting video! On a good battery , Is it possible to add a second range of cells in // under the first one always connected to the BMS , with respect of all connections at the good place and cells with same value and output amps , so to have more work-time , but first of all to decrease the Amps/output (divided by two) with full power position. That will give safe power by long use ...but first of all a much better battery life. Normally it must not disturb the BMS with a bigger capacity? Is it right? And with BMS always connected, no locking? Simply modify a safe packaging. I wish to have your opinion before trying. Do you know if the included BMS (I have a V10) makes the equilibration by charging? If not it's a shame. These new cleaners "eat" always more power . Why Dyson does not propose such packs? (like for good screwdrivers with 4 or 5 Ah)...too heavy? ... too expensive?...or.perhaps too safe...and commercially uninteresting? Friendly, Michel.

Greetings from Montreal. Thank you for your kind comments, it's a carefully designed sell pitch to use the battery on a limited time then buy others. (Similar with the laser printers.) That's the whole reason I tried and managed to reset this " lock" feature. Power tools ( like power drills) have a more "professional" approach. Over there the design allows a variable battery height, not like Dyson. I have videos reviving Power tools battery, if you're curious. It's a shame technology is wasted so easy. Kind regards

@@secondlife1970 Hi from France, I will look at your videos about power tools battery. I already built a lot of these packs with simple BMS with equilibration , specially to re-use good NI-CD models, and for E-bikes , and motorcycles (with A123 lifepo4). On my Panasonic E-Bike I have the same issue : Disconnected BMS locks immediately. So I build a battery with another BMS (only useful for charging or use separately) and I connect it in // (with same charge voltage) to the Pana batterie. On a Dyson pack, if I connect a second range of cells simply to the same connections of the first ones on the BMS, I think there is no problem. Do you agree? So must it be also possible to change the Dyson old cells without "lock" issue? Friendly.

@@Michel-Artois Yes, if you do not press on the button to wake up the Dyson BMS you can basically change the cells without lock. But for you, the safest way to change without the reset tools is to "ghost" the batteries, same as you do for your e-bike. Ghosting works well for laptop batteries also, those BMS are even more sensitive and protected to unlock.

@@secondlife1970 OK, I will pay attention with these Dyson packs if i must change "tired" cells, using ghosting. My first intention is not to change initial cells but to add a second range of cells in //, only to increase the capacity and decrease the output amps which "kill" the battery with max power. So I hope to get minimum a 5 to 8 years life time...if the BMS stays alive!..With Dyson I don't understand why so many BMS are faulty without cells issues...are they also built for a short lifetime like in some Canon printers?..Or can they not support a long time the high amps output? BMS programmation choices by the manufacturer are actually a big problem for us . Complications only justified for commercial reasons...It seems it's not finished in the future. Friendly, Michel.

@@Michel-Artois ok, usually the Dyson BMS are not faulty, they just lock when they detect cell un-balance. That's the purpose of my video, to unlock them after restoring the cell balance. By all means you can add extra cells in parallel to the old ones, it's just that for me it looks more wires and not very aesthetic. You cannot basically prevent cell aging, so no matter what you will need to change them sooner or later. Indeed with more capacity should last longer your modified pack. But keep in mind time is also aging the cells even if they are not used.

Sorry for the late response, I do not currently know or try to find out what other pcb revisions use as a chip. I assume it is similar, please do your own search, maybe others encountered that version.

Hi, you mentioned 2 red flush and 1 blue. What if 32 red flushes? I changed all the batteries and wrote the code like you, it showed blue for me but when I inserted in the vacuum, that means when I load it, it showed again red. Do I need to recode differently? Thanks.

If you look at my other Dyson video V6, V7 with 32 red flashes, you need to have all the cells balanced before restart the pack. If they are out of balance or cells are not the right type, it will lock again. Hope it helps.

I did my V6 a few months back and found the data to change and wiring diagram no proble This SV10 though, despite watching the video times, going back to eevblog thread and going through all the pics , I just cannot find a diagram for the wiring for this again Any chance you could draw up a straight graphic of the BMS to PicKit I have frozen the video, tried tracing colours, but just can’t get it Thanks

@@19786310 Hello, this video was a result of a collective effort ( EEVblog). The chip you have is a different type of controller and I have no knowledge about how to access this model. If it's new maybe it will take some time until other people try, or maybe it cannot be accessed/modified. Sorry, I cannot help you with that. Regards

To reset you have to manually charge the pack and balance-it, you can use any power supply. As for the 25V 500mA , this is the original Dyson charger.

I did that before learning how to reset. Other BMS are OVERCHARGING. I was amazed to see the voltage on each cell going over 4.22 V. This is what will kill them if they stay in charger. I rather relay on the Dyson BMS, it's very well made, safe. People do not think about this aspect.

Sorry you did not succeed, you have to make sure you uncheck the program part of the memory. If you erased the chip there is no turning back. Warnings were in the video text, to uncheck the program memory box, before you ever click "write" button.

@@user-eh3oo1lq3x I believe you are referring to the Program data. You cannot change that and you should never try, you will erase the chip. The eeprom data, the bottom part in the Microchip app, it's as you see in the video, different bytes, but not 3FFF.
