Hey folks,
Today we are modifying a receiver hauler made for motorcycles to work with fat tire bikes and e-bikes. I didn't get the drilling, relocating and re-mounting of the support brace, but you should be able to figure that part out. Please hit the like button, comment with any questions. A lot of folks send messages about what tools, items..etc do I use on these projects. I have some of these listed below. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Yep, I get a small commission but you still pay the same. Every little bit helps folks. Thanks for watching.
Arrow Riveter Tool amzn.to/3UKSE3p
DeWalt Angle Grinder amzn.to/3FSTmHD
DeWalt Metal Cut Off Discs amzn.to/3hgpj2b
Rivets amzn.to/3zLLtQa
DeWalt Drill amzn.to/3hhufnh
Square amzn.to/3T9ZVIK
Chicago Latrobe Drill Bit Set. This may seem as overkill to some folks. Let me tell you. After 10 broken bits and 3 bent ones from the factory from cheap sets.....Not to mention the fact that after a good push through mild steel dulls most bits...These bits are worth the money and and much more if you ask me.

The best I’ve seen today (3-25-2023) for my new Aventon Adventure with 45” wheel base & approx.77 lbs. The best improvement on this guys build would be to get it up off the ground. I’m old and my back won’t take it, maybe just on the tailgate of his pickup . If Haulmaster would build a bike rack like this they could make them cheaper, less material @nd probably sell more in one year than what they now because of the amount of e-bikes that are flooding the market. This guy is very talented and has made good calculations. ❤😊

It’s now April 15 2023 and I’m disappointed that there’s not more comments lately. It’s such a great project, mine turned out great. Maybe scared of chopping up a perfectly fine piece of Aluminum. I found that while locating final bracket positions that I left one loose until I tried my Aventon Adventure e-bike on the rack so that tires fit snug then marked and drill new 3/16” holes .I used one of the long rods to go through spokes on the rear tire . I also used the tire clamps on the front tire, i got lucky positioning the Clamps. I still need to put reflectors back on to different locations. Yours look so go and at good height, I did notice on a guy’s Jeep that his ended up lo low , but I was surprised😊that Aluminum was so easy to work with, I’m ready to do another and improve it a little more . Came up with using Harbor Freight’s ratcheting straps , they go on special sale all the time, mine for $8 .

Great job! Agree with others here, surprised Haulmaster doesn't make a smaller version specifically for ebikes.

Great video! I have only had my 94lb ebike for a couple of weeks and I just installed it and realize my tires are not going to fit in the indentations that are meant for a cycle. I also didn't like that it stuck out on the sides of my SUV. That little bit of extra work will make a great bike carrier!

Haulmaster should make that like you modified and YOU should get paid for your modification suggestion of their product. You clearly made a better product than what they're producing. Great job.

Thanks Dave! I ran into some folks in NM back in September on an elk hunt that where running E-bikes. Game changer out west. Doing a white-tail hunt in KY this week and giving it it's maiden voyage so to speak. Bike needs a couple more things to be right....this will be a good shakedown.

Thank you for this! I think I'm going to get one for my Aventon Aventure. Finding a good rack for it that won't break the bank has proven difficult. Luckily I already have the tools needed to modify this one.

Excellent video! I was about to change my mind about what rack to get to carry my ebike with, but I think the shortening of the rack to fit my ebike and ride better behind my Tucson will be best overall. Thanks for the informative video. Randy in SC

It's a solid rack once you modify it to fit your bike. I've made trips to KY and NM with it. My friend borrowed it and took his Fission ebike from TX to PA with it.

Just wanted to thank Bullet and everyone else for their comments along the way. I finally got my Harbor Freight motorcycle carrier transformed into a nice rack for my Lectric ebike. All I have to do now is figure out how to configure the rachet straps I bought to hold it on. @@bullet225ho

If you move those little centerpieces, slide him and bottom back down upon your realtor, leave the front was the way is that put your front on the front hall and move the back pieces slide them back in four to wear your tie back tire will fit in it’ll be so much simpler than to take that whole thing apart

Got the rack a couple of days ago, and though it wouldn't be too wide .. wrong after moving a couple of the flat plates and fitting it to my Ford Edge SUV, it is too wide. I eyeballed it to about 5" too wide on each side. You cut off 5 1/4 " 😅 so i was close. The part where you moved the brackets farther in and added bolts on the end to keep it strong aren't in the video 🤔 so i guess I'll have figure it out myself. Over all Great video , thanks

.? Never heard of 5/8mm but 1/4” x 3/16” works for rivets. And I’m guessing four 2 3/4” x 5/16” extra bolts needed for triangular straps. Your rivet gun is nicer than mine, I had to grind down the sides of mine so I could clear the sides while pushing the rivets in . Later

Excellent video. I will be doing this for my e-bike. The only thing I might do differently is to make the area where the tires drop down a little smaller. From the video, it looks like the tires drop down so far that the aluminum rubs against the bike's rims. If the distance between was shorter it might ride a tad bit higher. I'd be very curious if this is just the angle of the camera or if it really does drop down far enough to rub on the rims. Great tutorial. I look forward to modifying one of these.
@bullet225ho
@bullet225ho Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. It doesn't rub the rims. You can actually make it a bit wider and utilize the wheel lock pins if you wanted to. That's the great thing with this platform is you can make it like you want.

~Several important factors, one your not going to be able to return the rack to Harbor Freight ( just kidding). “. The rack is the same that bought and my Aventon I just bought is also 45” wheel base ( my bike weight is now 88 lbs). I’m impressed that your improvement didn’t require any aluminum Welding. How long did it take ? Would like a list of all the hardware to buy . I like the overall results ! Thanks, but I might just start by removing one bracket then load my Aventon Adventure , and make adjustments . Yes, I realize that I commented way too much, sorry, hopefully someone might benefit.

Robert, This rack is actually designed to carry heavy motorcycles (dirtbikes) I think it has a 400lb capacity. This project took me an afternoon...not all afternoon...I'd say 3hrs. I think I have the hardware listed in the description....maybe not. You can cut the aluminum easily with a hack saw. It does take longer. The most important part is the measurements. On the flip side. You don't technically have to cut it at all. You can move the wheel locks on the one side and the bike will fit and secure. It will just be a bit off center.

@@bullet225ho ~~ Yes , the measurements are very crucial, I have great bits and used two flat files and a round bastard file to easily adjust some 5/16” holes and had to buy extra 2 3/4” bolts .

@@bullet225ho How far inward did you relocate the stabilization brackets from their existing location? And did the top support straps conform when bolted down?
