I got to a pretty high standard at snooker and pool (U K) I moved to the states over 15 years ago and moved to American pool,with having good fundamentals from playing snooker,the move to American pool was fairly easy but I see people asking me or just going out and spending big money on high end equipment,common question is "whats the best cue" I tell them no such thing,just put the time in,practice,watch and try and play against better players,theres always someone better than you,always something to learn. Watching your video,your the first person to say,PRACTICE,getting to know your equipment,getting a feel for it,all takes time. I feel it`s important to ask question and learn from others,I`ve seen people practice bad,

Warkong, man, I appreciate what your saying. I shoot all powderburners, center and rim and enjoy them very much. So I fully understand what you are saying about not having the time. Bro, it takes so much. When i'm in the field, never does 10 hours move so fast. I too though don't get to shoot as often as i would love too. I have a real job and sometimes work 6 days a week. So when I get that one day to shoot, its like going on a 1st date with the girl of your dreams.................ITS A BLUR! There's only you and a couple of others (Aaron Cantrell for example) that promote "experience trumps wallet" and "lead, down, range". You don't need to spend thousands on atlas/accutac & custom made suede stuff to be accurate, Caldwell has been doing the job just fine for me. We need more vids like this (when time and want allows), it's a god-sent ^^ There simply is no shortcut, get a 350$ gun and spend as much on ammo as you need to get good, if after a year or two you feel you ABSOLUTELY need the slightly/barely tighter groups (depends what barrel you get) = Spend the 3k on a RAW/Daystate/FX.

Excellent video with great information. I completely agree. Lots of videos with instant success at long range. It takes lots of practice and lots of lead to accomplish. I witnessed the amount of work that you put into shooting long range. Heck, we shoot parallel lanes and watch the work that goes into it and with that, there are still no guarantees! We can only practice and do our best to align our shooting situation with the practice that we put in. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

Great advice, having a spotter also helps. I like to wait for the long range shooting until the ground dries out so I can see the impacts easier.
@Tofazfou
@Tofazfou 4 жыл бұрын
Ho man! A spotter is also a necessary. I find a lot of times i dont see my impacts when I miss especially if there are bushes near or behind my target. But you are spot on about shooting with dry ground while doing long range. You can also read the flow of the dirt when the bullet impacts the ground and the cloud of dirt flows in the wind. It can tell you how fast the wind is downrange at the target

Hey Ced, I'm so very glad you put this vid out. There are so many shooters out there looking for this type of info. Then there are those shooters who go out and shoot long distance and they have people thinking they have to have "that" same setup to shoot. So instead of doing any real research they go and get "that" same setup and low and behold it doesn't shoot like it did for so and such. There are so many people who want stuff to work immediately and they don't put in the necessary work to get "that" rifle to shoot properly at long distance, nor do they practice with "that" setup to honestly see what it can do and what's the limitations. So keep 'em coming.

Although I see your point somewhat ,I disagree that either is essential.I can see how they can be helpful however they both are fairly new inventions as related to hunting and shooting long distance.I hunt and shoot long distance for 40 years and probably more than anyone you'll ever meet and have never used either one .I don't use a rangefinder either I'm fairly new to air guns but have shot and hunted with bows I build from branch off tree and arrows of river cane , old school black powder flintlicks, matchlocks , and percussion black powder rifles and pistols and collect modern pistols and rifles and shoot long distance sniper rifles out past 1000 yards.Shot my elk with 308 sniper rifle at 1300 yards this year. I like a good pair of binoculars to find and look over animals well to see if it's one I'd be interested in taking but being a bow hunter all my life I know I can get kissing close and bonos aren't essential either. Snipers in history were doing 1000 plus yards long before chrony and radar and good optics were available . I am old school .I shoot my weapons much and learn each at every distance and what ammo is thier favorite and know them well from much practice.I know how high to hold at greater distances and how far in windage by shooting 40 years .Pellets and arrows are lighter and moving slower so are more succeptable to windage.You hit it on the head with the practice though! Fear the man with one rifle is an age old saying and is true because a man with one rifle all his life knows that weapon well and is very good with it.I don't turn turrets if use ballistic apps either.I just hold high or low or left and right for windage. Not knocking your info .It all can be helpful to some but not all :) You covered it again.Practice practice practice and know your weapon well

You are absolute right re binoculars, and I wanted to add that 8x42 ought to be the default choice as a good compromise between field of view, magnification and ability to use free-hand without shaking too much. The next step up, 10x50, was notably worse in terms of using it free-hand for me. Much higher magnification and you need a tripod for comfortable use, or image stabilization (when I looked a couple of years ago, I did not find anything of reasonable quality at a price that I was willing to pay). I own a Leopold range finder and it has been flawless, but if I was in the market for another range finder I would look very close at Nikon's models with imagine stabilization. If your gun, scope, rings, ammo & tuning doesn't allow you to get consistent results, it doesn't matter how much you practice. I think what you saying is that you don't need the most expensive equipment to get the consistent results. And, as you said, you need to practice, a lot. We are watching the very best airgunners in the world (with a ton of time behind behind the trigger) make those long shots on KZfaq, also, you are watching edited videos and they have missed the 5 shots prior to the one you saw due to incorrect wind calls.
@Tofazfou
@Tofazfou 4 жыл бұрын
Allan, very WISE words sir! The truth is, like you said, misses before the hits. I do it and so does everyone else on youtube. Not one hunter in this world has a 100% hit ratio. My goal is to minimize my misses to 0. That's how tought I am on myself. But its a goal i try an achieve each and every shot. Animal or soda can. I hate missing and thats a good attitude to have. Great advise on the binos and their zoom cause you are spot on. My binos are 10x and when im breathing hard, it makes me dizzy looking through them. SO your correct on the zoom discussion👍 And yes, part of what I'm saying IS the fact that because the top guys on youtube ALWAYS use the MOST EXPENSIVE equipment doesn't mean the average unsponsored guy does. Not everyone has deep pockets. ALOT can be done for much CHEAPER. People have to become "individuals" and do whats right for them.

@@Tofazfou Cedric, I've been doing a LOT of testing the hard way. I've been purchasing sizing inserts from Swede at NOE several at a time in one size smaller than what I need. This allows me to hone them up in size .000 at a time until I find the size a given barrel likes the best. I continue to size until accuracy drops off again. It is all documented, so I can go to a second die and hone it to the exact size that gave the best accuracy in testing. I leaned that if I approach the final size by polishing with my knife steel polish, the mirror finish it leaves allows me to size as much as 6 to 7 thou. at a time. No deforming the bases. Smooth as silk. I sent some slugs to Swede to see just how they looked after being sized down so much in one pass. He was impressed! He said it would be impossible for him to finish dies in such a finish and still be reasonable in price. If you ever need yours polished, let me know. the slugs look mirror polished when sized in these dies. ;

Quick question, I’m looking at the Texan in 308 as my first big bore. I’m hopping to run NSA ammo. Nick tells me the .308 is not a big seller. He mentioned he had difficulty in achieving good accuracy in the first .308 Texans. He also mentioned that he thought Air Force had solved a lot of the issues they had with the first .308s. My question is, is the .308 as inherently accurate as other calibers offered? My expectations are 2 MOA at 200 yds. Do you have any insight into this current production run of this caliber? You might laugh but my first PCP was a .25 Gauntlet. It’s stacks jsb’s 50 yds and prints a 1 MOA group. It prints at 1.5ish MOA at 100 yds but falls apart at 200 yds. I’m guessing 200 yd groups are in the 5 MOA range. Hard to get a good day without much wind to shoot a consistent 5 shot group so 5 MOA is a general best guess. So again my question is will the .308 be a big improvement over what I’m current working with at 100 & 200 yds? Any insight much appreciated.

How affective is practicing long range airgun shooting to bettering your long range powder burning shooting Tofaz? I see guys practice with replica co2 for their powder burning counterparts, have you witnessed your long range powder burning accuracy get better just by practicing and understanding long range airgun shooting? I know it's two different worlds but I wanted to know has it help you any assuming you also shoot powder burners, great video, keep it up and may you and your family remain safe during this pandemic

VERY INTELLIGENT QUESTION Marcus. LOVE IT!!!!! It is not only my belief but the belief of many air-gunners that shooting airguns makes you a better PB shooter. Long range or short range. SO many things to list and I won't list them all but, i will a few. #1, airguns have horrible trajectory and speed and BC compared to a Center-fire/PB. So, you have to concentrate MUCH MORE on your breath, hold, trigger squeeze and follow through with an air-gun than you do with a PB. Again, this is just a statement with little details due to limited space on KZfaqs comment sections. #2, an air-gun requires much more PRECISE shot placement than a PB. We don't have the all out FPE/FPS that a Center fire does so, we have to make sure we place our shots in the two main kills zones, heart/lung, brain. A PB can miss the vitals but the hydra-static shock can rip an animal apart. Prairie Dogs are a perfect example of this. There are tons of horrible shot placements on PDawgs on KZfaq. Or the impact shock-wave can kill with a less than perfect shot from a PB. Not so much in airguns. #3, airguns have much less recoil and muzzle blast therefore, its easier to make precise shots due to good trigger squeeze and LESS FLINCHING during the shot cycle. Its easier to form GOOD HABITS with airguns than it is with starting with Centerfires/PB's. That is why so many PB guys practice with 22 lr's and have done this for many moons. Now, lets go back to #1, having less fps and bc forces you to learn trajectory and wind drift for your particular projectile. And with everything being less, you have more aiming point in your scopes mildots/reticle to memorize and or use. This again forces you to become more acquainted with EXTERNAL BALLISTICS. Now, those are just a few points but, take them all into consideration and you can better understand how shooting or practicing with an airgun can make 1 a better centerfire shooter. I can now shoot consistently .250-.350" 100 yard groups with my TIkka T3 6.5x55. My 17 HMR shots dime sized groups all day at 100 yards. Its actually boring. But, they are accurate not only because the guns are well made and so is the ammo but, also because I shoot my PB's like I shoot airguns.
