Wow! Thank you so much for the comparison. Many years ago when I used to sing in restaurants I often got that same comparison but I always thought they were just being nice!

@@JussiPaul Yes I like what you said about people saying the old-time singers had great power and clarity and you said that they built their voices from the bottom up training the soft tones up to the large powerful everyone else does it backwards.
@JussiPaul3 жыл бұрын
@@sabbath7081 Yes, they took their time to build high notes in the past, starting with the falsetto register but often they would start as children and be singing major roles in their late teens/early twenties. Corelli was a relatively late starter and he didn't really get his voice right until he met Giacamo Lauri Volpi who himself made his debut in Puritani at age 27 but only because the war delayed things. Yes, you're right it's all done backwards these days!

Hey there, question - are the highest notes you sing here in chest voice? or just very strong head voice ?. You sound FANTASTIC btw, I'm trying to figure out if falsetto development is what I'm missing to accelerate my progress - I have built up a strong chest voice to an A4, and I keep making improvement daily - very notable from month to month especially, but I have a feeling it can be faster. So with your falsetto exercises, should I go up to A4 or B4 in chest and then break into an airy falsetto oo? should I make it very airy and then go down in a scale?. Hopefully that makes sense, thanks for all your videos.
@JussiPaul3 жыл бұрын
They are in full voice, that is to say there is full coordination between falsetto and chest. Yes, work the chest up to the A below middle C and then once the falsetto is strong you can try coordinating it with chest for the passaggio and high notes. I demonstrate that in the Passaggio video and the High Notes Made Easy videos. Hope that makes sense?

@@dariusfischer5263 Of course! They developed their registers rather than trying to force up chest voice.

Hey! Great video as always! Your videos have helped me quite a lot. I’m a tenor and trying to develop my upper register, but when I get to the transition from G to Ab, I fall apart. I can comfortably sing the G4 in full voice but my Ab4 sounds like there’s heavy vocal fry. Any tips on trying to bridge this gap? Thanks!
@JussiPaul4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the change to the Ab can be quite tricky. This is where the falsetto dominant coordination really takes over. You have to stop at the G and then work down to the Ab from the high C. It will always be a tricky note for the tenor but the more you can draw down that thinner mechanism from the notes above the more easy the transition will become. Baritones can get away with pushing up to the Ab but tenors really need to think of the Ab as a higher note. Have you worked with my 'tenor high C' and 'secrets of great tenor high notes' videos? You won't get a decent Ab until your high C is working correctly. The other problem might be that your G is too heavy? That's why it's so important for tenors to work downwards ie. start with the high C and then gradually add the lower notes one at a time until you meet the notes just above the passaggio. I sang for years pushing up my chest voice and could never get a high C. I thought that the high C was the problem but actually it turned out that my high C was ok but the rest of the voice was too thick and heavy. I remember Frisell telling me that once my high C is working ok the rest of the high notes will gradually fall into place but that they would 'slip around' for a while ie. one would aim for a Ab but there would be a little slip up to a higher note. Sure enough that is what happened but gradually the voice stabilised and now Ab is an easy note for me. I hope that's helpful?

JussiPaul, I practiced your high C technique and I was able to get it in about 15 minutes, and I worked down to the Bb. It’s still quite head dominant but I’m sure the chest quality just comes with practice. I’ve been singing musical theater music for two years now and I haven’t found anything that helped me build up my high notes until I found your videos. Thank you so much!
@JussiPaul4 жыл бұрын
@@loganmartin1881 You're welcome! I'm glad you've been able to benefit from the videos! Yes work down to the Bb. The A and Ab will take a while to settle, they will either be too chesty or too heady at first but eventually you will find a healthy balance. If you carry on singing like this your voice will never stop developing and you will be constantly finding new muscle coordinations which will allow you to express the music in many different ways.
