Today we are going to bust out the Baritone ukulele and learn the most important scale, the E minor pentatonic. The reason that this is the most important scale is because it is both the easiest to play from end to end, it starts on shape 1 and shape 1 also has four open strings in it. It is great for playing, improvising, and jamming in the key of E minor and G major as well as E blues. You can use it to both improvise and create melody for songs to sing. It is THE most important scale to know on this ukulele at this size. We will walk you through all 5 shapes from end to end and show you how it restarts at the 12th fret.

Psst I wasn't sure if I was misunderstanding but I just seen your aminor pentatonic scale for baritone and the chord shapes were different. I think I seen in a different video of yours that you can find the minor root on the E string and build the minor pentatonic from there. So if I build the Aminor from this E minor perspective is that scale different from the scale used in a minor pentatonic video ?

That is a good question. The general answer is this, it is the same scale shapes, but they start and stop in a different place. The A note is 5 frets higher than the E note. So if you take the E minor pentatonic tab and +5 every single note you’ll see all the shapes shift up the fretboard 5 frets making the A minor.

This video is on a tenor ukulele but it is the same concept, it talks about moving the scales around, check it out and let me know if you have any questions after. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bMuYp7umsJ_IiWw.html

Is there a particular reason the pinky is being avoided as much as it is? A lot of the fingering is made a lot simpler if the pinky is included, instead of reaching with the third or second finger.

If you aren't careful the pinky can slip off and cause the string to buzz, you *can* use, you're just better off not if the chord or melody you're playing spreads your fingers far apart
