Except of the noise and smelling it is good! Try to drive from fully charged to 0% soc with running generator. Somehow vcm should detect that instaed of 35kwh you spend more than 45 kwh. Probably soh will increase or something else.

You can't smell it. The air vents in the front are on full speed. It only reduces the rate the battery discharges.

Cool project, I always wanted to do this but with an old diesel genny so I could run it on waste veg oil. Did you ever get round to making the build video? I cant find it. Do you just have the output of the AC genny going through a rectifier ? Or is it more complex than that?

What is the output voltage of the generator? Do you need an inverter to convert to hv DC? How could you regulate the voltage and current of charging?

It will output 650v full speed no load. The battery pulls it down to near its best operating point.

You may need to up the voltage on the output of the generator to get into peak efficiency, a petrol engines peak efficiency is at max load WOT. The engine seems to also be revving quite high? is that to get the voltage up on the output? cool project.

@@ShaunDobbie Thats a lot of effort, cant you use a boost converter out of an old Prius inverter or and inductor and mosfet switch from a solar inverter? that way you will have better control regardless of rpm at varying battery voltages, as you are already quite close to the target voltage the efficiency will be quite high.

Reminds me of Hell Drivers, could be on to something. How does it work out legally, regarding fuel duty since you could technically run it on various cheap fuels?

What cheap fuels? You don't get red petrol.

@@ShaunDobbie the principal, having a separate/independent engine.for example an lpg engine off a forklift. Think how quiet that would be too.
