The E.P.C. is a weapon that is often overshadowed by its many drawbacks, but if you take the time to become accustomed to it, you will discover one of the most interesting weapons in the game.
This video is a tips and tricks commentary with a fleshed out build guide. If you've been wondering about what might be the best way to utilize the EPC and the thin containment field mod, this video is for you. I hope you try this setup and see just how awesome it is!

as a driller main, i think he is extremely busted. after mastering the ability to mine from the bottom of a cave to the top with drills without falling or looking at the map, being able to get literally anywhere with minimal planning, still having plenty of resources to work with... i just dont see any other option for mobility and crowd control. i dont even have the exp pistol yet, i stick with the flames because of the fire and forget mentality, the charges are busted for rapid terrain alteration. i make every battlefield a tower defence minigame that pretty much does all the work itself whilst im busy mining the ceiling of its resources from within. sure, other dwarves help, having platforms to further restrict pathfinding or walking turrets (gunners) to melt enemies can make things far easier. but i feel like the driller has the most solo potential in the game.

I agree after getting the hang of EPC mining, aquarqs on the ceiling are no issue. Makes the scout and engine combo useless lol.

I agree the driller is perfect for solo play. The main thing that made me choose it over the other classes is the fact of the drills instead of using the pickaxe to get places. Everything else is just the icing on the cake.

It's so funny to me, having played Engineer mainly from the start I absolutely can't get my head around the Driller. But every class (except maybe the Gunner) feels like the "perfect" class. It's kinda crazy

I know as a main my self promotion got things to. Learn but dang I really have a lot. To learn. Tho i often play driller to a hard cc counter so as soon as I get my know of the tunnels like that I will than be able to ware the flaf and fly it high.

I like using my epc to clear up frozen grunts so I opted for the damage upgrade on the first tier and use energy rerouting

If you like it in DRG, you might be interested to know the weapon concept was first birthed (I believe) in Unreal as the ASMD, later renamed the Shock Rifle in Unreal Tournament. There wasn't a charge mechanic, though; the normal shot was a ball projectile and an alt-fire hitscan beam that, if it hit the ball, would create a powerful explosion.

I was waiting for this video. I've been taking notes with your satchel charge video and experimenting with the EPC. But I didn't realize certain mods don't help the implosion. This video is very informative. Keep up the good work!

driller is my most played class by far, and i absolutly loved this video. tho i disagree a little bit on the overclocks used and i feel like you skipped some possible build/hybrid builds you still covered more than i could have. i hope more people see this video and that people will share it so others will discover this beauty of a weapon/mining tool. you've definitely earned a sub here. Ya I can tell (still getting my lethal difficulty as I plat off and on) there is posably plenty of changes one can make to fit them. But I hope I can find my neetch for scout soon as I know I'm the aoe king than excapt tumnle often at the end. I may change my drills to weapons tbh with how little I drill. So blood for the blood god.

This video inspired me to learn EPC mining and the Plasma Charger as a whole again after failing the first time (I used heat pipe which actually makes the charge window **narrower** since it’s change, go figure) and I‘m really enjoying it! Its also made me realize that the Wave Cooker isn’t as good as I thought it was, as I’ve been playing just fine without it (with the added bonus of a Mactera deleter and instant resource collector). Almost four years later and this video is (in my opinion) still the best EPC-mining guide, as you went over all the reasons why I *didnt* want to try out the EPC, and then you weighed the pros and cons of the weapon very informatively!

I always felt more drawn to the EPC as opposed to the Subata, but I hit the exact challenges you mentioned. I'm so glad I stumbled upon your video. You've convinced me. Also, you've earned a sub. Very well made and informative content! Keep it up! I would love to see more weapon reviews or full on build videos for every class (but mainly for the driller, I love the driller).

Yup, they're called Craussus Detonators. They share the same body as Bulk Detonators but have skin of gold, as such they are Bulletproof to most small arms but small arms can still deal damage by targeting the glowing bulbs or face. Upon explosion of death, all terrain effected to the far edge of the blast radius will be converted to gold which can be mined so destroying these Crassuses in small, compact tunnels will maximize the gold produced by the blast. To give perspective on how much, a Crassus being destroyed in a tiny tunnel made by a driller produced 1500 Gold. And I've actually been in situations where these have detonated while Pots of Gold (200% Gold mining gain) is active. This produced around 3200 gold which had to be mined by pick of a two dwarf team. Key note: Mining this out by pick takes a WHILE, even moreso with PoG drink active. Keep an eye on ammo/nitra reserves of your team but do note that PoG will not take effect if mined using the E.P.C's Thin Containment Field Mod used here, Bosco's mining or any non Pickaxe method.

This power shot is such a learning curve. But when I can get it, it's awesome. (I wish the gun range you mentioned in your most recent video was a reality so I could learn to how to hone the technique). This, the power drills coupled with the satchel charge, and the making a hole in a wall to help give you space to fight was a revelation. This and the other satchel video is going to change things for me and my crew. First time I've ran with the axe too, makes sense for the single focus. Best videos man, best. You're analysis is just fantastic. More more more more!!!

Been looking for ways to mix up my builds and get out of my comfort zone to keep DRG fresh... and this video was exactly what I needed for the EPC which I've always considered "too complicated". Also, this video as a whole was just super soothing. Reminded me a lot of "ahoy"'s videos, which should (hopefully) be taken as a big compliment.

Awesome video man. I just started DRG 2 weeks ago. I was playing Enginner up to the first rank up but I truly enjoy the Driller and his use feels so satisfying. This video has definitely helped me use the EPC better! This video got my really interested in trying Driller again. Mainly a engineer player but driller has always been an interesting class and you really sold me on this weapon. Still suck at it and missing most my shots but the few times I get it right it really hits that "Hell yeah" feeling HARD.

I love the scout and I am super hyped to see a driller with the TCF mod. The synergy with the engineer is one of the best parts of the game, but the scout can still fly around and res people, get secondaries and kite. Doesn't detract from my enjoyment at all. More synergies would be hype tho

I played with some friends for 4 hours and focused my time on learning implosion mining. Let’s just say the first 3 hours were embarrassing. However once I got it in the last hour my scout was asking me to let him do his job. Such a fun weapon. Thanks for the load out info!

I don't think that TCF is useless against Praets and especially against Guards. In fact, i highly disagree with that - TCF EPC one of the best weapons in the game to deal with pack of guards, due to its AoE nature. It's true, that you need 2 shots to kill one guard, but you also need 2 shots to kill 5 or 10 guards spare a lot of ammo for yourself and your team. Same with praets, if it's more than one. But it's chunks their hp through the armor pretty well, even if they are alone. Also, it worth to mention, that TCF deals 240 fire damage, so creatures like Deeptora Honeycomb, Spitballer or unfolded Shellback takes massive damage from this gun.

With regards to praetorians and spitballers, on higher haz difficulties it's unviable, especially at larger ranges.

@@AsiwaritXR and yet i killed a lot of praetorians and spitballers with that thing. You need to land 3 TCF shots to destroy spitballer. It's easy to achive even on a great distance, with a bit of practice, using TCF and a cover. Praet require 5 consecutive shots, but you can reduce it to 4 if you, for example, ignite it first. It's a lot of AoE total damage and you fight praetorieans in close quarters, where it's easy to land.

i like the E.P.C in solo . using the charge shot explosion to get hard to reach minerals is so useful . don't forget the other utilities it also give you . don't forget. you can hit multiple weak spots on the Detonator . i feel the devs either should make the "thin containment field" as already existent feature of the gun . or they should explain that "thin containment field" can be used for mining . i didn't know the E.P.C can do that , until i saw someone do it in other video . maybe add an Overclock . that let the "thin containment field" projectile explode immediately when it hit but instead it will keep absorbing damage until it explode and it will be double in size (of course this overclock give less ammo and maybe less damage by bit) . also i will love to see a ricochet overclock where normal projectile will ricochet to other enemies (hit 3 target at max).

It actually used to have the ricochet as an upgrade instead of Plasma Burn, called Bouncy Plasma. It was super goofy but very effective in tunnels and against mactera, and I was sad to see it go to make room for another dang fire mod

I would argue that the scouts shotgun special power offers some level of utility vaguely comparable to TCF. The ability for a scout to move so fast, or to make ceiling fossil grabs without taking damage, or for a scout to establish a foothold with a power attack and then use that foothold moments later without taking damage, is the scout becoming even more useful and independent than without the OC. Maybe apples and oranges, and definitely not as satisfying, but still an example of trading decreased offense for utility and independence. Great video on what is becoming one of my favorite techniques!

The Heat Pipe OC changed so it increases charged heat, so it's unusable with Thin Containment field now. The two clean overclocks work great with it, though. I don't have all OCs, so there might be others that do well, but regardless, this guide is what made me start using the EPC, and I love it. Thanks!

The Astrek Electron from Firefall used to have an ability just like this that the devs changed because the players complained that the projectile was too difficult to detonate even though the primary weapon was a hit-scan. I mained Electron and had him setup to provide shields to my entire party as well as providing healing and damage reduction.

reminds me of plasma rifle from Unreal tournament, wich secondary shot was a slow moving ball, but shooting it with the very accurate an instant primary shot will cause a big and powerfull explosion
