We are thrilled to have spoken with Carol Marak, solo aging advisor and advocate. Carol is the founder of the Elder Orphan Facebook Group, which launched in 2016 has almost 10,000 members. She also has a very successful KZfaq channel called Solo and Smart and her book Solo and Smart, is slated for publication in 2021.

I think Facebook is the social media most seniors recognize and many are able to use. I'd be interested in knowing what happens if she gets ill. Whom does she rely on to help her?

I am a caregiver...but regardless of advertising, word of mouth, recommendations; I find family members are not quite willing to have a caregiver in the home keeping their loved one out of the nursing homes. Quite sad. There are a few of us who are willing, able,and see it as our purpose in life to care for others. Feel free to contact if you also agree.

People prey on solo elders, can have them committed and take their homes. I keep to myself, but it’s not easy or fun.

I've had a very hard time finding other senior citizen people who are living alone and don't really have much if any support. I just found out that people identified as "elder orphans" or used the term "aging alone". I was sharing my home with another person for 15 years but they passed away. It was very economical and we both paid our debts off. I'd like to find a way to safely connect with someone else who would like to have a housemate and share housing. Is there any group in Virginia, NC area?

I live in El Paso, TX. I belong to a small Catholic church where most of us are Mexican Americans. I still drive at 80, so I can still attend and socialize with the people that I've known for over 15 years. My youngest sister wants me to move to my old hometown so that I can be closer to her(70 miles away.) I'll be exploring that when I go to a family reunion in a few months.
