long story short, i made all four of my MAF sensors touch with engine running. they were all four exposed wires and created a spark and the car shut off. it blew some fuses and wouldnt start, just crank and eventually stopped cranking. after checking all fuses boxes, clutch lockout switch and ignition switch it still wouldnt crank nor start. Up until i watched this short ass video was i able to get my 1997 540i/6. thank you so fucking much, my car sat for 3 months

Lots of questions here, so I'll add my own knowledge gained by dealing with the same EWS no crank issue: You can bypass the starter signal on EWS by jumping the two black wires on EWS connector as depicted in this video (the large gauge black wires, pin's 1 & 2 on connector) *This will cure a no starter motor signal issue only, but your ring antenna, key transponder, EWS Elmos IC chip, and EWS synch (rolling code) will all have to still be functioning properly to start the engine If your engine cranks but doesn't start (prior to jumping pins 1&2) and gives an EWS code, your issue is likely just an alignment/synch problem, or the ring antenna (or rarely key transponder). In the case of the key transponder or ring antenna being the issue, this is sometimes temporarily cured by removing the transponder from the key and attempting to start with the transponder pressed against the ring antenna. You can test the ring antenna by removing it and measuring resistance across the two pin connector (~2.8 ohms max). If you scan the EWS with OBD2 tool and cannot communicate with EWS the problem is likely the Elmos chip on EWS circuit board which can be replaced, but for most a full EWS replacement is typical.
