E46 M3 Diff Refresh

If you own an E46 M3 be sure to CHECK YOUR DIFF BUSHINGS. Could've been a lot easier just changing the bushings and not having to retap in threads to the diff casing. I also show you how to stop your E46 M3 Differential from leaking. Thanks for watching go check out the Instagram. / hoon_garage

How many miles you have on that rear diff I’m told the viscous slip only last 60,000-70,000???

I believe the previous owner had it rebuilt though.

Yeah just got that in my wife’s M3 170k miles and after servicing the rear like you did it was still leaking from driver side with a lot of play in the shaft. Took it back apart and found out the ring and pinion is worn but the only people who offer a clutches and steels for the actual viscous slip so you don’t have to buy a complete new one are in the England. Like the clutches and steels inside the viscous slip unit

you HAVE to use genuine BMW rear diff fluid for this car. The M Variable LSD does not play well with other fluids and will let you know that. Highly recommend you swap out that fluid.

It’s an eBay muffler stock everything else, sounds decent for what it is!

I believe the differential needs the friction modifier FM Booster

It depends... if you add in more fm you wont get the clutch packs to lock up as hard. Bmw customers complained that the diff was to loud so they added it in to quiten it down for customers sake.

Did you have to remove the diff again to bore out the front diff bolt hole?

@@HoonGarage respect bro. i'm dealing with the same issue. just got the diff out. mine is so worn that i dont think the rogue engineering kit will fix it. also my back 2 are so worn and thats with the new upgraded bolts loc tited in there too. my M3 is a dedicated track car but shame on BMW for such poor engineering. Suck it BMW!

Well, I’m stuck on that front bushing cuz I can’t fit tools in there.

allensinho4 you need to remove both 18mm nuts on the front of the subframe as well as the 4 13mm bolts to remove the bracket preventing tools from fitting.

Wooooop! Just did it last night without removing the subframe for a whole $5 bolt and nuts from Home Depot.
