E53 BMW X5 window stuck down? Here’s a quick fix!

If you have a failing front window regulator on your 2000-2006 BMW X5 and your window is stuck down, chances are the rear corner of the glass is binding in the window track.
Use this simple trick to get your window back up temporarily until you are able to replace the window regulator.

Really good advice.Picked up from airport and the window would not go back up on leaving the carpark.Travelled home with the window down and took a minute to resolve after watching your video Thank you

Thank you soooooo much!! This worked on my BMW X5. I ordered food in a drive thru and the window would not go back up, it was pouring down raining and 38 degrees outside, with a 12 month old baby in car. I pulled over and fixed it with your video.

@@paulynns2139Place the screwdriver right at the beginning of the window strip and kinda move your window up and down and push screwdriver foward..eventually it will go up..

Wow man, you came in so clutch. Literally stuck on the other side of the country in a massive rainstorm rolled down my window to see where I was going because the windshield fogged over and the window dropped out. Rain coming in like crazy I thought I was done for. Watched this, grabbed the little tool kit out of the trunk and I was rolling!

thanks, it worked for me too. 2003 X5 E53. Had to try a few times, key was to make sure window was completely down and standing outside the car with door open much easier then working from inside. your the man Hans!

Hans Neilsen you are the KIIIING thanks for the quick fix window is back up. Damn thing decided to get stuck down in +35 Celsius weather and you my friend made my day thank you .but regulator seems to be working fine I think it’s just slipping or getting stuck down from off road terrain

Thanks, that worked! I had already taken the door card off, but as I suspected, it just needed some help to go up and now I have held it in place with a GO pro suction mount.

THIS WORKED. I TOOK MY E53 X5 TO BMW OF NORTH SCOTTSDALE AND THEY QUOTED ME $1,600 FOR A WINDOW REGULATOR REPLACEMENT. HOW RIDICULOUS. THIS TOOK ME LESS THAN 30 SECONDS TO DO. I WILL EVENTUALLY OPEN THE DOOR PANEL AND REPLACE MY SPEAKERS AND FIX THE REGULATOR.

Glad you were able to get your window up. They are not cheap, but I think it is with buying oem window regulators from FCP. They should last a long time and replacements are free with the lifetime warranty.

Keep those window tracks lubricated with silicone spray lubricant with a straw in the nozzle,makes it easier to go up and down and should help the window regulator motor to last longer,not just BMW's,all windows,electric or manual!

Both my front windows did this. I did NOT NEED to replace the regulators ONLY the rear plastic clip at bottom of window. They break and the regulator tries to lift only the front part of window so it sticks.

Thanks for the tip. When I took mine apart, I found that the regulator was fine and just the clip was broken. Luckily I had ordered some based on your comment.

My window reg has been replaced as this happened and a few weeks later it got stuck again, but the mechanic came to take the door off and it just went back up without changing reg, do you think that’s a plastic clip issue instead of reg aswell

Yes, it could definitely be the clip. It was the case on mine.
