Great guide, really helped me to take off the trim so I can put on a vinyl wrap on it. Only challenging part was removing the airbag, but after that it was a breeze.

A great help in changing my steering wheel trim. Unfortunately I now have the 4x4 warning light on which is hopefully something to do with disconnecting the battery. Thanks for posting this vid.

These cars (both e53 and e70) will throw the 4x4 light whenever battery is disconnected. That’s been my experience. As soon as the car moves it should turn off on its own. Take it for a drive.

There has been a recall on BMW Takata airbags if you have one. Models involved in this recall include: 2000-2006 BMW 3 Series (E46) including M3, 2000-2003 5 Series (E39) including M5, and 2000-2004 X5s (E53) equipped with certain driver's front airbag inflators manufactured by Takata.

Afshar S the airbag has to come off, removing the wheel is only one more step. Save yourself the struggle and remove the wheel from the column!

Depends on so many factors. Heat, where is the car stored or parked daily. How careful is the owner. My original owner 335i with 190k miles only started peeling during my ownership.

Hi Bimmer Zeit, off topic question. I have a 2004 BMW X5 3.0 with 189k miles and I get an Oil Abbrasion Error. I've changed my transfer case/rear diff oils every 60k but now I read that you need to reset something? Is that true for my year? Or is that for xDrive models only?

Did you recently change your oils? Yes, it is true you are supposed to reset the computer and tell it you've performed the transfer case service. Hopefully you only used genuine BMW fluid in the transfer case!

You're going to need to go into the car's menu to reset - you will need software to do this such as INPA or a scan tool that will support it. I'd try eBay or Amazon to pick up INPA cable and CD.

Transfer case reset only needed on iDrive, if you have the NV125 transfer case - just change the oil. Adding magnetic drain plugs is recommended

Thanks Nathan! This is the X5 I was telling you about. It's a 2004 4.4i Sport loaded with every option, including 4 corner air suspension (BMW calls it 2 axle I believe), Imola II red paint, rear heated seats, the list goes on. Purchased from the original owner in PA.

And that was the first year of the n62 in the x5? does it smoke on cold start?

Yeah this has the N62, pretty sure 04 was the first year. It doesn't seem to smoke on start up, thankfully. Do you know how to reset the self leveling suspension? It went inactive... the front left strut leaks.

Great videos man. If you want to play with suspension leveling you can buy BMW software from these guys www.ebay.co.uk/sch/diy_bmw_garage/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from= You can do everything BMW garage can do with it. One week you can lower your car to minimum clearance, another max it out for offroad. You can manipulate height of each wheel separately or by axle. I am using it for several years and it helped in a lot of situations.. Transmission reset, locating failing sensors, transfer box reset after an oil change... anything you need...

Great and clean video, thanks. I have the same 4.4i model/year but only rear air suspension. I’m waiting for the Schwaben scanner. I read that you can easily fuck things up with INPA/ISTA softs, be cautious if you use those. Since upgraded wheel size to front 275 40 20” & rear 315 35 20” is a total different car. What wheel size are you ridding? I strongly suggest that mod. 🤓
