Scouting was the best experience of my life! We hiked and canoed many miles and learned to be trustworthy and prepared. Eagle scout 1968 just before being drafted. Thank god the BSA leaders stuck with me.

Eagle Scouts demonstrate service in the community and goal setting. Many Eagle Scouts continue to prominent professional positions later in their adult lives. The Boy Scouts of America are active in communities throughout the nation and include a variety of people from varying churches and ethnicities. It's a good program designed to build leadership and self-esteem.

I actually dropped out of Scouting due to the responsibility that came with rank. At that time I was a follower and not a leader. Scouting is more than just camping. It's leadership, responsibility, learning skills and working as a team, selfless service to community. Just think what the youth culture would be like if they were all Scouts and not lazy layabouts.

It is great to hear of the big names in our history who stand out and everyone knows. It gives something for the Eagle Scout of a small town in Northern California to dream of becoming as he provides leadership and guidance to the younger scouts behind him. Thank you Mr. Townley for your book "Legacy of Honor".

Sadly all those men have completely abandoned everything that being an eagle scout entails.

here is the scout vespers i learn on my road to eagle which is sung to the melody of "oh Christmas tree". "softly falls the light of day, as our campfire fades away. silently each scout should ask, have i done my daily task? have i kept my honor bright? can i guiltless sleep tonight? have i done and have i dared, everything to be prepared? "

thank you for posting these words for me. My husband taught them to the troop when my son was a young scout. They are still singing that song today when they retire their flags. My husband passed away 4 years ago and my son is a Sargent First Class in the Army, but when I go to the troop's committee meeting I wait for them to sing that song before I leave. It just feels like my husband is still here.

I think I am the one who should be thanking you for both sharing your story and your family service to our country. one of my best friends lost his father in our first year in the boy scouts. he was very active in our cub scout troop and when it came time for his wake our scout troop stood guard by his casket, one scout at each side as we alternated shifts. he was a beloved high school science teacher as well. if I remember correctly there where literally over a thousand people that attended his wake, mostly prior students of his. I always found it ironic that his brain was so intelligent, yet that is where the tumor was. strangely I can tell you somewhat resemble my friends mother, who's name strangely is Karen too, she has some ways that keep his memory alive like when her youngest son was little, shortly after the funeral, said that finding a dime is his fathers spirit's way of reaching out. at first she thought it was just an kid saying kid things until they started to find dimes in the strangest places like once I saw him find one at the bottom of a public swimming pool. it has been two years since I typed the scout vespers into this comment section and to be honest, I actually forgot about the comment until I saw the notification on my phone saying that I got a reply on it. I shared it without intending for it to have any affect on anyone and to get a reply saying "thank you" years later is something special to me. I hope you know, especially in these difficult times, that your son is valued, and your family service is very much appreciated.

Nice recognition, Fox. Class act. It slays me how Obama uses words like "fun house mirror" to depict Fox as deceptive. It shows you how out of touch he is.
