Interview with Luftwaffe fighter pilot Erich Brunotte on the DCS Dora.
The interview was recorded in July 2014 when the pre-alpha version of DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora was being developed. This is one of the ways Eagle Dynamics gathers information about modeled aircraft, 30 min, Full HD.

At 28:23, he tells the story of his flight commander landing in his own village and his memories of it but then a somber face.... that is the face of a man that remembers the life and times of a man he once knew, had great times with and is now no longer with us. Great video..... great video

theeltea Really, you have a copy of his membership to the Nazi party have you? You know that he was part of if because of his beliefs do you? Do you realise that soldiers, airmen follow a mission, for us as much as them. They don't get to choose what they get to do and certainly they don't join because of political reasons... because hey I want to be a NAZI! They join because they like to fight or fly combat airplanes. Wake up tot he real world instead of objecting to the principles of a game you have never even been close to.

***** Gus, I am Russian and those guys liked to fight and fly combat airplanes against my grandfather. So please, don't tell me to wake up, alright? I am quite awake already. I have no objections about people admiring his memory and enjoying his account of flying the Dora, but I won't shed a tear and be sentimental about his comrades.
@theeltea

OO7999999999999999 First, you're in no position to tell me to stay away from anything. Second, are you implying I should support those guys who are shedding tears for the poor nazi pilot and his friends? I have no problems with him being a pilot but for fucks sake, don't have pity on him and burst into tears about his comrades. They were agressors and fought a war of genocide. He is a survivor. Fair enough and good for him. But all these manly tears are PATHETIC and uncalled for. The guy himself wouldn't probably approve. He knew what he was doing.

Erich Brunotte: Fighter Ace with 33 confirmed kills.
@svenschwingel8632
@svenschwingel8632 4 жыл бұрын
That didn't make you an ace in Germany back then. You needed 50 confirmed aerial victories to be called an ace pilot. His record is still impressive, though.
@johnconran9327
@johnconran9327 4 жыл бұрын
@@svenschwingel8632 Incorrect sir. General standard to be an ace was five kills, this was derived from WW1. It was accepted as a rough standard to be referred to as an ace by most any pilot of any air force in WW2. The only thing demanded more and more kills from German fighter pilots (like 50 kills) was the award of the Knights Cross, this became higher and higher as the war continued.

In WW2 die the " fighterace" was called Experte/ expert , and you was an expert if you had 20 or more Kills! 5 Kills or 10 Kills 15 Kills mean Nothing in german fighter terms! When he finished talking about his friend, that emotion in his face hit me right in the chest as I know that look having lost a few of my best friends in their 20s. It reminded me also of my grandpa stealing a tank and picking my grandma up for a picnic date and driving the tank down our busiest street in our city. His comrade tried it but wass caught and spent some time in the brig.

I wish this was not just an interview of this pilot trying to fly his Dora 9 as a video game, since it is probably totally alien to him, as he cannot feel being inside it, feeling the vibrations, and the feel of the plane when flying etc. However, his stories were very interesting, but perhaps a better interviewer, with maybe videos representing the aircraft he flew, and his comments would have been much better. But, still good hearing from this man and his stories, his seeing him reliving some of his memories.

It's a three part interview- amazing , gripping stuff. That man has an amazing story to tell. Also -Peninsula Srs Videos have some amazing lectures from American Mustang pilots, and other veterans. The one with Mustang ace Richard Candelaria is amazing. Just a little old man telling stories, but his descriptions of dogfights are more gripping than any movie could ever hope to be.

***** This is what the majority of pilots say about flight sims without force feedback. Pilots develop a muscle memory of how much force needs to be applied in order to get a certain aircraft behaviour. Flight simmers usually have a "positional" memory (they remember the position of the stick rather than how much force is needed). Flying on a 2D screen without FFB is kind of counter-intuitive for those who experienced the real thing. What Erich says makes a lot of sense. Flying planes is a very physical experience, especially for fighter pilots. :)

Well the German was a superior warrior in every way, and if not for Hitler and Goering shooting their own generals in the foot, England would have been taken by mid 41 after the fall of Gibralter and the royal(ly fracked) fleet cut off and slaughtered by wolf packs of Uboats in the Mediterranean. The Mustang was designed by a German ex-pat. interestingly enuff as well.

Great vid. He sounds like he is giving answers that his whole group would have given. His answers were the answers of the practicalities of taking the simplest and most direct approach to safety, and overcoming the difficulties of take off and landing. Once you've got it worked out, to complicate your methods invites trouble. It's different flying DCS because there isn't the same group dynamics in the learning process. Militaries must standardize procedures to get as many cadets and aircraft through training in one piece. This looks like a very valuable historical source. Good questions too!

Glad to see I'm not the only one who hates a wobbly stick in his flightsims. I never understood how people could fly with something like a CH Fighterstick. If I can't have decent FF, at least give me some (adjustable?) springs to get some sort of resistance in the stick. A stick that's completely limp, to me, is like driving an old-fashioned luxury car with way too much power-assistance in the steering. Gives you absolutely no idea what the wheels are doing and makes it very hard to figure out how much control input is needed in a given situation.

+Marco77acv DCS Brasil You are wrong on that account, the 27 isn't retired. The different airframe indexes such as 30 and others refer to the same airframe with upgraded avionics. They are still part of the Russian Knights aerobatics team. Also, Russia has a little bit stiffer policy on what's classified in the military. That's also partly why there is no fully clickable Flanker in DCS. No data to work with.

Well if that isn't an effed, misguided statement if I've ever heard one. Read some books idiot, learn some history, or continue stumbling along in your you're stupid social media based education system. Dumbass

Luis Felipy The video had been recorded in July 2014 before DCS Dora was released. So, the current model matches Erich's comments.

The video is very nice. Too bad there are large chunks of interview with missing subtitles. If I spoke German I would redo the subtitles. They are far too incomplete.

Depends on what fighting style you want to approach. You wanna be the B&Z nightmare of DCS WW2 flyers? FW-190D9 is your answer. For turning --> K4 If you think you will want to ground attack stuff from time to time.. FW-190A8 or D9 and so on

No offence, but that's the problem with gamers and engineers developing flight simulation software. They're not pilots, and their "aircraft" do not handle like aircraft. A pilot gives an aircraft the control inputs it needs. The skills developed in games and simulations will teach procedures just fine, but will not develop or hone the skills necessary for flight. At 18:30, what's being discussed is feel, based on long experience. You'll never get that into your game.
