The Bald Canyon Nest is located on San Clemente Island, California. This nest is remote. The BC pair have three eaglets that hatched on April 2, 3 and 6th. The older eaglet E#1 fell off the nest sometime during the night on April 21. The US Military provided permission to Dr. Sharpe and the Institute for Wildlife Studies (IWS), USFWS to rescue the eaglet. Due to the remoteness of this nest, Dr. Sharpe was not able to get anyone at this nest until today.
This footage captures the rescue's team arrival, return of the eaglet to the nest, and a lovely feeding for all eaglets afterwards. A remarkable outcome at this nest. Thanks to Dr. Sharpe, Nicole, and helper, the USFWS/IWS and the USA Military for making this intervention and rescue possible, without your help the eaglet was at great risk.
For more information about the IWS and for links to all their eagle cams click on the link that follows

Thank You Deb for sharing this amazing video with us! Now I'm not sure if the ALL the Eaglets or their parents are gonna allow Dr. Sharpe to retire? Just kidding, he has excellent people on his staff to be confident and taking over! I had no idea that they got permission from the U.S.Military for this operation. Is it something to do with they have a base on this island? Interesting to say the least. Thankfully BC1 wasn't hurt (except scraped knee) and just loved seeing it wasn't letting go of its fishie in its talons! With the parents flying hot in and out of the Cam, they must not see people much at all! So adorable how BC1 was reunited with its nest siblings and stood up to the table waiting to be fed!💞 And don't worry Nicole, if the parents don't like ur placement of reinforcement sticks, they'll move them!😆 And by watching you move the crib rails around for proper placement gives us a better idea why the parents are constantly moving them around for same result! This must be an absolute amazing feeling to be able to save a Lil' Birdie of Prey 🦅! Thank You ALL to Dr. Sharpe's team for your Compassion, Dedication, Empathy and Integrity and to U.S. Military members who were involved with this successful rescue mission!😇

I personally believe these wonderful Parents were doing all they could... in attempting to keep the other nestling fed and protected, given the situation. They never gave up on #1!! However, the Great Job of all involved, who came through, in this rescuing this nestling, and returning it... have my deepest gratitude💕! Indeed, there's always the thought to allow Mother Nature to do what it knows is best, for the good of all. But I would hope a bit of mercy and patience with these amazing parents, 🦅🦅 and allowing them to receive from us, a momentary helping hand 🤲 won't interfere, and allow them to develop the finer skills to be successful, and have no need for our "interference" in the future." Truthfully, that's all we want for them in the end. God bless the rescuers🙏 all of you souls 😇 who wanted to attempt this positive outcome, before the nestling became compromised or lost. Hopefully, we can help the ones who find themselves suffering from the man made situation... with the fishing line as well! Please America🇺🇸 💔 😔 let's do a better job out there with our recreational activities... All of Us! So we can indeed leave Mother Nature at Peace. 🕊

Great rescue effort!! Thanks for giving the little guy another chance to some day soar as an adult in the skies overhead. Is it possible the eaglet was pushed out by a sibling or even one of the parents? Happy to see him being fed which is a good sign he likely fell out of the nest and wasn't expelled. What do we know about the habits of Bald Eagles with regard to expelling or rejecting sickly or weak eaglets?
@darkangel7820
@darkangel7820 7 ай бұрын
It's highly HIGHLY possible it was pushed out by a sibling. The sibling rivalry is BRUTAL when it comes to Eagles. The older one is naturally the strongest one and if it happens to be a female, she's gonna be at least a 3rd bigger and yes stronger. Unfortunately Eagles can't count. It's not ok I fed you last time now it's this one's turn. Nope. They just keep on feeding whichever one sticks it's head up the closest to them. The stronger sibling will try to intentionally starve the weaker one. Yes they will also try to push each other out of the nest The parents. Unfortunately the parents will sometimes select feed. They will select the stronger Eaglet and intentionally starve the weaker one. The parents will sometimes push the weaker one out of the nest I just found this video. I know nothing about how old these Eaglets are or anything about them. Once Eaglets gets so big and at almost full grown size, like around 9weeks plus they will do what I call winger sizing lol they flap their wings and jump from nest to branch and back and forth. They're trying to learn to fly. It's completely normal for one or both and all 3 in rare cases of 3 to miss a branch or the nest and down they go. As long as they stay in the area the parents will still feed them. But sometimes they will get caught in a wind gust and being they can't fly, they go wherever the wind takes them. This separates them from the parents and they will d1e without rescue The REALLY BAD part. 80% of baby Eagles and all birds of prey, do not make it through the first year. Being they don't know how to hunt or fish, if instincts don't kick in and they can't find road kill and other de@d animals they will starve Most people think the parents teach them how to hunt. They do not. They have to go by instincts. They're not full grown and don't get their white head and tail feathers until they're 5 years old. Same for Golden Eagles. Only for them they're losing the white feathers and getting gold feathers on the head and dark feathers on their tail. Eagles do mate for life I've done a lot of reading and research since I started watching the SWFL Eagle Cam in 2015. I didn't watch anymore after Harriet. I kind of peek every now and then but I don't watch like I used to I do love watching Martin Tyner. He's been going live everyday this month and answering questions. He's been rescuing Eagles and other birds of prey for over 50 years. He's also a Falconer and has a Golden Eagle he named Scout. If you want to watch and ask him questions, he will be back on today, Christmas Eve at 11AM Eastern. I think it's under Enoch Wildlife. Plus you should be able to search Martin Tyner and Scout

How did the eaglet survive on the ground? Was Mama feeding it at all? I am so amazed it did not get scooped up by another animal for dinner 🙏🏻. Sometimes, nature needs a helping hand. Mostly we should stay out of God’s business, but sometimes, he lets us know that it’s ok to care about our fellow living creatures and lend a hand.

How did the eaglet fall out of the nest in the first place? Did it's siblings force it out of the nest? Obviously I don't know much about eagles but I've heard that for some other bird species, often it's 'mother nature' that reduces the clutch size, increasing the chances of survival for the remaining eaglets. (adequate amount of food).
@ytadventurer9170
@ytadventurer9170 Жыл бұрын
Except this was #1 that fell. The strongest. You can tell by the way he 'bonks' #3 during feeding time. If anything, putting #1 back in pretty much guarantees its survival, but it hurts #3's chances.
@DrFlippin
@DrFlippin Жыл бұрын
@@ytadventurer9170 Thanks for your explanation. I had only viewed this one video and so I wasn't familiar with this nest. It's always a bit hard to see a stronger sibling bully/attack a younger, weaker one. But I guess this is how nature works... ☺I still get a bit of a shock when the parents bring in prey - be it a fish, rodent or bird.

This is heart warming but, this is human intervention where nature should have been left alone. Perhaps that bird is the weakest of the three in some way and nature should have taken its course. They are not endanger anymore and a human didn't knock the bird out.

I can also appreciate your thoughts on this, leaving things to Mother Nature. I grew up on a small hobby farm... That said, culling and management are indeed part of it. It's a tremendous responsibility to learn when and if... we should interfere. Given the circumstances here that these parents were still attempting to protect and feed the nestling, and it hadn't yet been hurt or otherwise compromised. I personally believe it was worth the chance to help. Hopefully, we all need to learn the value, in patience, and to mercy.
