Man, I swear I could smell that smoke just sitting here watching on my PC! Even coughing a little bit. haha. Seriously tho, vehicles were going up and down the alley about the time I started watching this vid and the dust was what was getting me. lol. But was kinda weird how that happened right when I started watching all that smoke roll out.

I'm always surprised by how pedestrians are not stopped from walking through an active fire scene. They are endangering themselves and interfering with the safety of the firefighters.

Hi Skyler. Great video, must be a nightmare searching the hub of the fire in a building that size.. Also the video covers on how many different appliances that you guys use. Would it be possible to answer a question for me please? I noticed that some crew were wearing, what looked like to be blocks of wood strapped around their helmets, for what purpose would these be used? Take care out there. John.

@@SkylerFire depending on the width of the wedge, they can also prove useful at stopping an activated sprinkler head if you have 2 of them. Insert them from opposing directions and once they meet snugly you smack your palms on the end of both simultaneously. this forces them in tighter and helps to force the wedges in so tight that water isn't capable of getting by any longer.

They are wedges used to help keep doors with hydraulic closers stay open to make entry/egree easier.

This might sound silly…. but what is the engineer doing with the hard suction?? Why would hard suction be needed on a hydrant system?

That’s not realllly a hard suction line… if you look when he pulls it off the truck the bigger lines above it are the actual hard suction lines… what he pulls off is a different size 4” I think… if you look at about 30 sec later when the show the other engine down the block you can get a better shot of it
