My son Justin was Diagnosed with autism April 2018. Justin seemed like a typically developing child until after his first birthday. We suspected a speech delay which is the reason why we had him evaluated. To our surprise he received an autism diagnosis. Justin's symptoms and signs became more apparent soon after the diagnosis. I have done everything in my power to help him, and will continue to do so.
Below is a list of things we tried this first year.

Autism isn't a bad thing. My husband has autism, he wasn't able to talk and read until he was 13 years old. And was also head bashing when he was a toddler. He didn't see any specialists or what, was homeschooled by his parents 'til highschool. Because of his mother's patience and faith, she never gave up on him even after doctors and people were discouraging her back then. Now his son is married to me for 3 years now and nobody even thought that he has autism. We have a 1 year old kid now and it seems like he has mild autism as he is really smart for his age and he's bashing his head too when he's really upset. But yeah, having children that have autism will never be easy but us parents are the ones that could really and primarily help them.

@Sarah Stevens His mom would read books to him and she would encourage him to tell the story back. And she also encouraged him alot to talk about how his day went, she thought him the differences of emotions so he can express his feelings. In socializing, he said he couldn't look at people straight or would be difficult to focus on looking at them when they're talking so she taught and trained him to look at the person's junction of the nose and eyebrows when they're talking to him. With reading, she used "Hooked on Phonics" and have him help teach his younger sibling how to read.

Thank you so much for your video. I came across your tik tok. Hearing your story gave me so much hope. We were just diagnosed a couple weeks ago. You described your son and it was like describing my son. I literally cried watching because I completely understand what you are going through its exactly how I feel. I’m an rbt going to grad school to become a bcba and this just touched my heart and made cry thinking about how I chose the right path to continue to help our society in need 😢 I love Justins smile 😊 ❤️ and I am glad he is enjoying ABA even though some targets are hard to learn in the beginning ! It's 12:00am.... I've been struggling so hard mentally since discovering my son may be autistic. Autism runs in my family so genuinely it was no surprise. But nonetheless, it's very hard seeing the little boy I love struggling and thinking about the struggles he'll face. Your video was so encouraging, and you give me hope for my son. Thank you for sharing. My 16 month old daughter has been having some of the same symptoms as your son has had. Right now early interventionhasn't gotten back to me yet. I'm glad they helped your son!

16 months is so early! Awesome job in getting your daughter the help she needs! I would try to call and email and continue to follow up at least twice a week if they’re not getting back to you. Getting started is difficult but it gets easier once you have everything going

@@randomestperson121 thank you. My daughter has completely regressed since 18 months old and is showing lots of signs. She did have an ear infection, so could be related to that, but I'm starting to get concerned. Doctors have asked to wait another month to see if any progress. Its so heart breaking to see her regress like this.

@@SuperSeventeen1717 I definitely know how you feel! It's hard watching your child regress and not make any progress, especially when you're seeing other kiddos your child's age doing all of these things that they just can't do yet. My son had a double ear infection about a month ago, however he had all of his symptoms before and I didn't really notice it affect his development or symptoms. They'll want your daughter to be free of fluid in the ears during the evaluation, as they generally do a hearing test and having an infection could throw off results.

@@randomestperson121 honestly, I've spend the whole day crying now knowing what to do and why it's happening. She was absolutely fine up until before the infection. If you don't mind me asking, please could you tell me what signs you noticed first? Apparently they won't do a hearing test until she's 2, but I can't exactly wait that long to know, I feel so helpless

I just want to thank you for making this video. Because of this video and you talking about the bad bacteria in your sons gut, I have been able to target what I think is the root of my sons autistic symptoms. I’m treating his gut with plant based herbs and I am seeing sooo much progress.. just in a matter of days. This video sent me down a rabbit hole and I found many many parents who reversed their children’s symptoms and this is the reason I don’t cry so much anymore and I am pretty sure my son will be just fine. @@nataliewright4164 his organic acids test results showed that he in fact did have a heavy overgrowth of some bad bacteria’s. I have him on dr Morse’s plant based herbs and an all fruit and veggie diet and he has had many many subtle changes.. no overnight miracles lol but I am seeing a difference in his attitude and comprehension.. he’s 20 months.. when I first saw this video I would cry at the drop of a dime about the situation.. now I look at my son and I’m like, you gonna be aight lol... he’s still not responding to his name, still holding his ears and grunting but he is now playing with a lot of his learning toys that he could not even understand before and letting us read him books 🙌🏾🙌🏾 once again, thank you so much. When I first went to my pediatrician and told her I needed my sons Urine tested she had the nerve to tell me she wasn’t concerned about that!! But because I had already saw your video I knew which direction I needed to go in. I am so so grateful to the moms like you who have told their stories.. you don’t know how much you have blessed me. ❤️❤️❤️ much love and I hope your son is doing better as well. Please post updates.

Watching this as a means of education since I work with autistic kids. They’re such genuine souls and soooo bright. You’re doing an *amazing* job in helping your son in all ways. I definitely see a MAJOR difference in asd kiddos that have this much attention at home as opposed to parents that just rely on limited hours of ABA services during the week.

❤️ thank you ❤️ I did learn early on that I needed to apply the skills I learned from the therapists throughout the week . We started with 2 hours of therapy per week … that wasn’t enough And that’s amazing that you’re working with autistic kids . Aba helped Justin a lot

My son is now 2.5 and we just got his diagnosis, i remember a yr ago watching your video and seeing my son 😭 . The amount of tears i cried because i knew he was on the spectrum. Now hes doing so much better . We have utilized a variety of things

I suspected Autism in my son since 4ish months. Everybody and their mother thought I was crazy, I was dismissed and told it was just first time parent worries. Well my son is 20 months now and a new pediatrician finally saw what I saw. Along with (just recently) my husband’s mom who is an Occupational Therapist. He just had an intake observation for a program. Recently the insane tantrums are draining me along with never hearing him happy. I’m always waiting for the next whining or tantrum. I’ve been able to be the calm he needs with all I read to help since he was a baby, but it’s exhausting! I’m so glad you and him got help, I’m so happy to be getting help soon too! 🥰 I never once felt heartbroken over it, I just knew he needed help I can’t give him and I was desperate for someone to at least listen!

@@madimars9935 I switched pediatricians. If they’re not willing to at least hear you out and take notes to and refer you to a program for an evaluation, or early intervention, run! The first 3 years are crucial!

@@mmmkayy89 I have worked as nanny for wealthy families and I have seen few kids diagnosed with autism. Autism from my perspective doesn’t have one shape or unique line . Kids with autism can have different behaviors. But the one thing I notice a lot was heating their head , tantrums and they will not Seattle with anything. Noise will bother them . I have seen kids diagnosed with autism because: - speech problems - not eye contact - they are too smart at 1 years ( they are ahead for their age ) - their muscles are so stiff when they are babies . - they don’t take long naps as others .etc etc I have met parents who blamed vaccines cause autism in their kids .

Thank you for this video, I also am signing up my daughter. I feared autism from the moment I became pregnant and I am living my biggest fear. I cry everyday. My daughter is 13 months now. @@mgarci99_13 months is not too early if all the symtoms are there. Usually that means a degree 3 of autism. The spectrum is broad and some babies shows signs as early as 6-8 months.

I wish Justin and u guy's the best . My friend's son has autism and it's hard when you are out in public cause people can be cruel. There has been so many times she was in a store and people would say smart comments about her son. Target actually kicked her out cause this lady was so rude she got into it with her she tried to explain her son has autism and the lady just kept saying ignorant things about her son following her around until she flipped out .

Afterwards I learned to say things like “hi this is Justin and he has autism and he is having a hard time” I think sometimes people stare also because they’re curious as to how you will handle the situation. But that lady was completely out of line

I work away from home and my wife told me last night. I reacted so badly I sometimes feel I can't forgive myself for my initial reaction. I wish I had not had him and then I realized what I had just thought and felt terrible. I love my son and I am happy I met him... We will get through this together. I believe in him.

You’re crying makes me so sad but less alone bc this is exactly how I feel I am very hopeful after hearing your story my daughter has clear signs of autism we are going to a Nero development-mental pediatrician this January a month after my daughters 3rd birthday she’ll be aging out of early intervention and going into the special pre k program in our town. Girl you brought me to tears. Thanks for sharing. I see a small delay in my great nephew and I want to help. He is just 21 months old but doesn’t have a lot of words but he’s starting to mimic more and will sometimes respond to his name. Likes opening and closing doors, loves abstract objects like spoons or random bottles like lotions. I’m hoping he gets checked soon

This was the best autism video I’ve ever seen. ❤️ I almost started crying with you. My son is 22 months & he’s still non verbal & he’s very draining & difficult to deal with. It’s been a struggle for me. He’s currently in speech therapy but I want him to get screened for Autism when he turns 2. He has a few symptoms of mild autism. I’m not in denial like most parents. I feel like I failed my son in a way or I did this to him. It’s not an easy pill to swallow.

This video was beautiful and so helpful. Thank you for sharing your story. I am going through this now with my 18 month old. And he’s so similar to your son. He smiles, is affectionate, points to things, etc, which has made me question whether or not he has autism. But I am quite sure that he does. I was in denial and holding on to hope that he doesn’t have autism, but that won’t help him or our family! The process is taking longer than I’d hope to get him into the testing center and to get him the services he needs. But you give me so much hope!

Hello, all praises for being a great mom and thank you for sharing. My son is 3yrs old and we are still waiting a diagnosis, it's been a year. He has speech therapy which is barely starting this week. He also is in pt/ot. He is scheduled to see the neurologist. You made me feel support and comfort in your video.
